Yes, you are absolutely right, judging a phone by my experience with a phone that is handled by people all day in a store is bad judgment, I regret having done that.
I know Google devices very well. I've been using them since the Galaxy Nexus and I currently have a pixel 7. No inferior parts? Remember the crappy screen the pixel 2 xl had, so did the pixel 6. Let's not forget tensor issues with bad reception. Here are some receipts:

You say that you haven't seen reports of the inferior parts, but you clearly have because for example, you know that the pixel 8 pro is using an optical fingerprint sensor again.
Again, I'm not trying to convince you of anything. I would love to be proven wrong by Google, but I've been burned too many times. Note taken, I will comment less negative stuff.
