I just talked to Apple and the FCPX specialist said it's definitely a defective video card. They shipping me one on fast track because they want to capture mine to find out what's wrong with it.

Great news for you... fingers crossed it is the video card. I hope you get it soon, I will have to return mine early in the new year to get a full refund.

Just a quick update. I've installed the latest 10.12.2 (official) which replaces 10.12.2 (beta) I've been running.

My graphics glitches are still there unfortunately. They are still intermittent but I can almost always force them to happen on demand by launching migration assistant, quitting migration assistant and then log in to any use profile. It's not the file vault on log in glitch, that normally shows for a split second. This is the same long lasting glitch I've always been getting.

It still doesn't matter whether I'm on Intel 530 or Radeon 460 GPU the issues spans switching between both.

I do have a video that I will post tomorrow ready to update Apple engineers.

As per my previous posts, a replacement is current in build but estimated for first/second week of January 2017 although they did say they would try and rush it through.

FYI - after all my testing I'm still torn between this being software and/or hardware. It certainly isn't down to one single GPU in my case as the issue is present on both. It could be drivers, it could be colour profile conflicts, it could be ram related (loading drivers or profile into bad sectors) who knows. I have never connected an external display. What I want to try next is Remote Desktop access to the machine during glitch and see what it looks like.

I am confident some people on here (JaninLa) have a different graphics issue though and we can't bundle all graphics issues into the same category just yet.

And I still can't get myself to even think about a Windows machine. Call me crazy. Getting used to a new OS is the last thing I want to do. Especially when it might not be worth it.

And the MBP looks hot

They captured mine as well and sent me a new one. I haven't done anything with it as I was waiting for 10.12.2 for the fixes. At least I got a free AC adapter and USB-C cable out of it. My case is still open with AppleCare in case GPU induced kernal panics still occur when I leave Aperture opening generating previews.

I think now it is mostly a driver/software thing that couse damage to hardware.

People with new units that are updated to the finall official release of macOS please update us!

That's what I was thinking, some output caused by repeated resets on the radeon GPU causing damage to whatever chip muxes between Intel and Radeon display output. My display still flickered with a checkerboard pattern after rebooting from a kernal panic. Other people are seeing different issues though.

Well while I don't like what I'm hearing my fingers are crossed that it's a software issue & not hardware or software that causes hardware damage. I really like this machine & it's already been a huge help and improvement over my previous one. Just got back from a large 300+ person group photo where we had to process & upload in the field. It took no time at all & best of all no graphics glitches in the process. Like others have said though if it's not solved be the end of the return period it's sadly going back.

If my machine shows another graphics issue after this update, it's also going back. Don't know what to use after that, but I'm certainly not gonna take my chances.

Iphones failing en masse (battery), latest WatchOS Update bricking devices, MacBook graphics issues - I don't even know what this company is doing anymore.

Have a 13" TB 8/512.

10.2.2 has definitely helped with the :
- screen tearing when switching spaces
- artifacts on screen when switching spaces
- the dropped frames when going into mission control now make "more sense". It micro freezes and then jumps into Mission Control, which is at least predictable, instead of stuttering in in between states. This is an improvement, its not impressive for a machine that costs what it does, but its now not frustrating.
- the bug where you disconnect a monitor and mission control spaces previews just show blank outlines of apps is fixed

Good stuff.

Do you use an external drive for the footage? I've been using an external SSD when this happened.
ALSO: I started the Premiere Pro project on my old Mac Pro with a NIVIDA graphics card (CUDA)
BECAUSE: when I started a new project with the files on the internal drive - NOTHING BAD HAPPENED.
Also FCPX works just fine.
No, not while processing.

I didn't get another call but when I was on the phone to Apple earlier in the week to report my fault they transferred me to another department and the senior tech I was talking to asked me to go through step by step what I was doing at the time and then asked if I would mind sending them a complete data log dump. They also seemed interested in the fact I had the glitches with no other apps open and asked if I had any other Adobe apps than Lightroom and Photoshop installed (which I don't).

They sent me a link to download a DMG file which contained an app called Capture_Data which ran for around 5 minutes collecting and compressing all the log files ready for me to send to them. Is this a similar process you went through JanInLA?

I've also got an issue with the WiFi failing after sleep which I've never had before and it's happened on both home and work networks now. I won't hijack this thread with that issue but I might start a new one.

Was your machine Build To Order or "off the shelf" spec? Have they told you how long you need to wait for replacement and have you got to return yours before then ship you a new one?

Similar question to you, did you have to return your original one and then wait for a replacement?

Mine was custom built and maxed out with every option they offered. They sent me a new one and once I received it, I returned the old one.

I officially gave up today after working with Apple and Adobe for countless hours. Apple claims it is not a hardware issue even through it happens every time after processing video and the case heats up. It gets so hot while using Premiere Pro processing 4k video that I cannot keep it on my lap. Once it gets hot, the freezing starts. A hard restart and return to Adobe Premiere results in much faster freezing after a minute or so, obviously related to the overheating of the unit. This happened on two separate fully upgraded custom built MacBook Pro's, 2016 model with the 460 graphics card. The second one was just given to FedEx and I am washing my hands of Apple for awhile. Very sad day since I waited over a year for this MacBook to come out. Good luck all and thanks for the advice and recommendations.:(

Can someone check if your white apple logo changes size during boot if you use scaled resolution to 1440? , mine does and i think the resolution should be saved in the nvram so the boot remembers it. Maby my nvram chip is broken?

So why aren't you seeing this as an Adobe issue? I've testing Premiere on Mac Pros for some years and it has always been **** compared to the Windows version.

This even happens on my 2014 MBP, so nothing new there.

Good stuff.

I spoke too soon. There is a new graphic bug now where if you use 2 apps in full screen mode, so they are beside each other, the one on the left keeps taking over the one on the right. The right one disappears. These are bugs though, not something that feels inherently wrong with the machine.

Here's Keynote and Pages in split screen view. Smooth, no glitches. I tried with other apps too. Not seeing your issue.

It's only been a day for me, but I haven't seen any of the horrible red boxes that were plaguing me prior to the recent update...

I still have the same problem, even with the latest version (10.12.2) ... I mainly work in video editing when it happens. I haven't replaced it yet or went in store because even with people changing them out seem to have the problem. So I guess it might really be a software problem. So please keep us updated after you got your new machine, if it solved the problem.

Anyone else getting this at login:

Edit: not using fileVault. But after some more testing, I can only reproduce the problem when the MBP is plugged into an external display. I tried about 10 times with and without external display. When external display is used, I can reproduce the problem 50% of the time and when I am not using the external display, there was zero occurance.

Just upgraded to 10.12.2, and now I can reproduce this problem 100% of the time when using an external display :(

Update to 10.12.2, which is supposed to have some graphics card fixes

You can also try resetting the NVRAM on your Mac. I called Apple Support about 3 issues with a 2016 MacBook Pro with Touchbar (battery capacity, graphics, wifi not connecting) and doing this solved all three at a stroke
