MBP 2.6 250GB 5400 Drive 15" Glossy shipped Sunday 24th November, delivery 30th-5th December - does it really take that long???

It is coming from Shanghi, wouldn't they use a plane? or is it a slow boat?

Jeez.. the wait...

I ordered it on the 19th November...

My only hope it will have the proper leopard install disks with ilife 08 on rather than tiger.

I would say it's a very fast plane. Mine was in the batch with some of these orders and it left Shanghai on Friday, was in Alaska Saturday, Memphis Sunday and today is on a truck heading to my house. Not bad for free shipping.

It got here so fast I might want to set up a clean room to get the Sars off.

In 2003, I waited 5 months for Cooper S. Think of it like childbirth only faster and without a hormonal broad screaming at you every other minute.

Nov 26: 7:36AM "on fedex vehicle for delivery" edit: 9:30AM, it's here, and i'm on it!!

niceness.

hey did you guys who had the same delivery time as me get the free shipping or the 2-3 day? OpusFL (others?), looks like you had the free shipping & had the same shipping schedule as what I paid an extra 15 bucks for. I know its a minuscule percentage of the total cost, but I kinda want my $ back on that one if that's the case. Whatever I guess, in a few hours I'll be too busy with this new sweet piece of electronics to care... :p

I am currently typing from my 2.6 MBP - first mac and I am loving it.

I got the free shipping option, ordered Nov 18.

Mine is on the FedEx truck out for delivery, should be in within the hour!!!

I did NOT pay for extra shipping, just opted for the free shipping. Looks like I saved $15.

SammyAD, i feel with you. In the two days (22-24) my MBP has traveled approximately 35 km... As, has yours i guess.

To pour salt in my wounds i received the bill today.

Lmao again!!!

sigh... my shipping still says departed TN... :( it's said that since saturday... and I'm in california. this blows.

this calls for a cesarean section. scalpel!

Nice link

Thanks for the link. It's always great to see benchmarks that make me feel good about dropping 3k on a laptop! 20% (400mhz over 2 cores) is nothing laugh at, either. My video conversions should fly now

My MBP arrived 30 minutes ago -- 1 day earlier than expected. Order it Nov 1st. It is a sweet 2.6 Ghz Intel, 2GB RAM (soon to be 4), 200 GB 7200 RPM HD, 17 inch Hi-Res GL WS bundle of joy.

Not that it matters at all, but once I got it set up there were five software updates waiting, including Leopard to 10.5.1. I kind'a sort of thought that since it took so long to get here that it would have included the OS update.

Oops -- sorry for the double post. That's my bad.

I am glad I went for the glossy screen -- no glare issues at all for me and everything looks so vibrant. Also, the system has been running now for over 30 minutes and it is very quite with no heat issues.

They won't update the shipping Leopard disks until another update or so. Which I think means that the master they use to install on new machines will also not get updated until then. 90% sure that's how it works.

I checked FedEx this morning and it said it was on the truck for delivery even though the estimated delivery date still showed Wednesday. Luckily I was able to work from home this morning!

My 2.6 15" showed up about 30 minutes ago and it's perfect! I'm glad I didn't have to sit and wait for the Leopard upgrade to install. This thing ROCKS!

Mine arrived just before ten am. Copying everything from my IMac took about 2 hrs. I just switched out the memory for 4 gb from Crucial. Btw, if you're doing the memory install, you really have to put pressure on those sticks or it won't recognize them and you'll get the flashing light error on the startup.

It was blazingly fast early on but has been a bit sluggish on a few restarts since I added the memory and it ported all the IMac data over. It's seeing all 4 gb so it's there okay. For a while I was fearing the worst with that blinking light.

New keyboard is tremendous upgrade over old Macbook chicklets keys. Might take a while to get used to the spacing tho as I'm discovering. 15" screen btw.

Well everyone have fun with theirs. The Fed Ex guy said he had delivered a bunch of these this morning so there was definitely a big batch sent out after Thanksgiving and a lot ordered in November.

Cheers.

Cheers for the heads up, i have my 4GB crucial ready and waiting - im planning on installing it before i even turn it on for the first time.

FedEx has mine listed as "in transit" from Shanghai; no status update for about 24 hours now. I was expecting to wait--with great equanimity--until the 28th, but the recent rash of arrivals has me a little fidgety.

Glad to hear Leopard is installed on some of the more recently-shipped 2.6's. I'm hoping that to be the case for me as well. Should be, since they had to go through the trouble of installing Logic Express. Right?

Ah, back to waiting and constantly reloading the FedEx pr0n.

As is mine. I believe our macs are in the same batch .

dang! Mine didnt ship today and I was really really really really really hoping it would. I sold my MacBook so I am currently macless!:(

Out of curiosity -- which hard drive option did you go for? The reason I ask is that folks here have questioned the difference between justifying a 7200 RPM HDD verses something that spins a lot slower. So, it seems to me you might have some real world experiences to help them out.

"Delivers by the 28th"

I hope FedEx loves me as much I'm going to love them when they deliver it! Maybe enough to get it a day early? :D

Sorry I keep frequently posting - this is my first Mac and I've prepared for this about as much as NASA prepared for the Apollo program. I'm psyched!

I went with the 250gb 5400 I believe. I wanted the extra space in case I needed to carry any Windows apps - ie if MS mails in the Office for Mac again.

I saw those discussions earlier and it crossed my mind when the porting took forever. This Imac is pretty loaded and it's a 2.16ghz machine with a slow hard drive I imagine so well so you know the slowest ship theory. The HD on there is a WDC WD2500JS-40TGB0 fwiw. I suspect I went with the bigger slower one. That's my tendency as a rule.

1st Mac shipped today!

... I am pumped!

But now I fear I'll get to watch it circle the airport in Shanghai for 3 days ...

It's still OK, it's on its way ... ordered it 11/21, and it shipped already ... not bad ...

4 GB Crucial in hand ....
