I think I disagree. They said that one of their design goals with Series 7 was to maintain band comparability. Therefore it will be something that will stay with us for a long time (maybe ever). Going from Series 3 > 4 > 7 was always a continuation/evolution so they kind of had to be compatible. With Series 8 and this new „Pro“ version they can do whatever they want because technically all the old bands will stay compatible with Series 8 (just not with this new size). Nobody will complain (except all these sensational YouTubers of course with their usual bs). But suddenly Apple can do a lot more with this new adapter/size. Remember all the patents about smart bands and sensors in the band? That might not come with S8 but it may lay the groundwork and it may not be possible with the current band adapter size.

Also: another band size also means another set of SKUs that Apple can sell. It might not be their primary reasons to introduce it but they will also gladly take the money. They’re the most profitable company for a reason.
Your guess is as good as mine, I guess. I just would like to hear some logic. I don’t think band compatibility was just a foundation principle for the series 7.

Your supposition that this new watch that is barely bigger somehow must break with the entire line to achieve ruggedness and battery life feels extremely random.

Gurman says it’s an evolution of the current design. I don’t think the current band connector is losing sales to Garmin or incompatible with digital interfaces.

I am not at all convinced that "historic" bands will somehow be incompatible. It is entirely possible to expand the case size and maintain the lug length. Also, bands are not going to get wider. Your current bands are pretty much traditional sizes if you compare an Hermes Apple Watch leather band to an Hermes Watch leather band--they don't change just because the face of the watch fluctuates in size. It's like if Hermes made bigger belt buckles then the width of the belt will increase beyond an ability to fit within belt straps? That wouldn't make any sense. There are some things that are just standard.

IF there is an increase in size then it's going to come at the expense of current bezels to accommodate the current standard lugs. There is also a limit to the size of a watch face before it looks ridiculous.

Exactly. And if you look at 38/40/41mm modern buckle or Hermes leather, it’s very narrow already. And, look, I’m happy to be wrong, i really don’t care about the Gurmanwatch, I just feel like people are pulling very assured assumptions out of thin air.

I’m hoping we get a new style. Like a new print, cuff style, Attelage type of band. Not just more single tours in slightly different colors of years past.

Would be interesting to see something a little more 3D like the Gourmette but a single tour and/or in different colors etc..

I personally want a very bright blue like Bleu Electrique to complete the collection.

Not sure if their leather band offerings are meant to complement the seasonal ready-to-wear lines, but the FW/22 men's collection is a lot of subtle greens and blues, and women's a lot of pinks and beiges.

Hopefully there’s a blue leather band that’s less subtle than Navy and Bleu Lin this season or spring/summer.

Hi dear Hermès family!
I'm trying to find a 40/41 mm orange/kraft jumping solo strap but it seems out of stock everywhere. On eBay I only see 44/45mm. Do you know of any forum or website where they sell them? In apple and Hermès they are out of stock (I'm in Spain). Thanks!

Does anyone here routinely upgrade each year and sell their old one? I got my first Hermes Apple Watch at the launch of the series 7 last year and I am considering upgrading to the Hermes series 8 when it comes out and selling my current one.

Stuff like the iPhone has a linear depreciation curve, so it can make a lot of sense to buy the new one and sell the old one on a yearly basis. I'm curious if anyone has any insight into whether this is the case with the Hermes Apple Watch as well?

I love my current Fauve Barenia with deployment clasp, so I'm not looking to upgrade the band. Would it help if I got my series 8 with one of the new bands and sold that, as they are likely to be highly sought after and may give a better return? Cheers for any insight into this!

The watches have poor resale value. The rumors suggest only minor upgrades. You might want to keep your watch.

I’ve upgraded the Hermes Watch yearly for 3 years now. I justified it because the new watch had new features that I really wanted to take advantage of. The S8 seems like a minor upgrade, with rumors of the processor being about the same, same sizes, materials, etc. Personally, I’d skip the S8 and buy some of the new bands instead. The only reason I’m considering the S8 is because I want a SBSS watch to go alongside my SS, and even then I may try to track down a S7 b/c it’ll be cheaper and basically the same.

As far as selling your old Hermes, prepare to be disappointed in the return you’ll get. Offsetting the cost of a new watch always helps, but the real $$ with Hermes is in the bands. If you don’t plan on including the band, you won’t get much for it.

Thanks for your response. As you have to order the Hermes watch with a band, I was thinking of selling that band alongside the old series 7. Thinking that would offset the cost a bit, especially considering I could order one of the new bands (if there are any) that people might be wanting to get their hands on.

I’ve been upgrading yearly since the S4 Hermès and I think I’m gonna skip this year with the rumoured minor upgrades.

Will definitely get a new leather band or two. And yes we want more pattern prints and new colours. Not more black or grey or gold/Fauve.

I do. I upgrade every year. Sell the watch only with the sports band or sometimes without. I already have the sports band and I don’t need duplicates. I have been lucky enough to find forum members in the marketplace who purchase my items. This year the same person who bought my Hermes series 6 is buying my Hermes series 7.

Not always true. I sell my watch only for an acceptable price to me. And someone gets a very well taken care of watch.
