personally...i am not counting it out...read my posts. Buuuut.......they have a history have having great design on the outside....then failing to deliver a great camera when compared to the existing top notch phones.
Remember the whole M9 debacle last year? Throttling.....overheating issues.

Oh for sure. I remember :)

Yeah, looking for some hands on reviews first. This is not a preorder purchase given the history. But if the specs show up that have been leaked, this will be pretty similar to the S7. I expect it to perform better actually.

I agree about its release date being clumped in together with the S7 and G5. Its just going to be lossed in the shuffle. If it's camera is as good as the G5 then it might stand a chance.

Dang the Samsung cheerleader bias is just as blind as my negative Samsung bias. Phone isn't even announced yet.

And waterproofing has been hinted at.... why are the Samsung fans counting it out already?

Too little, too late. Another chamfered aluminum smartphone, meh. Even LG, who is in a much better market position than HTC, knew they had to bring in something innovative to the table in order to survive. Are people really going to flock to it just because of Sense UI? Otherwise the only other saving grace I see is if they price it very cheaply.

Well there are plenty if reasons:

1) Those who don't want a glass back phone
2) Those who don't care about a gimmicky edge or VR
3) Those who don't like Touchwiz (HTC has put much more effort into Sense)
4) Those who want updates
5) Those who want a phone that is not locked down
6) Better speakers
7) Likely better performance and battery life (due to the screen)
Keep adding after reading
8) USB C - faster charging

I don't think this thing will sell even a fraction of Galaxy, but Samsung is the Apple of Android world. If priced right and the leaks have been truthful (with a couple other surprises hopefully) I think this will do just fine. Much better than the LG transformer phone, I am sure of that.

I actually think it look ok.

But .... it does look a bit 'generic'.

Much like ask a kid to draw a house and we would get a square with a triangle roof and door flat centre...

The design of the HTC M10 looks like the generic smartphone shape anyone asked to draw a smartphone in 2016 would draw.

That's not necessarily a bad thing, or indicative of a lesser quality device - it's just a little uninspiring and really all these expensive flagship handsets NEED to be somewhat aspirational ...

I suspect the M10 will be an excellent, solid device and Sense will run like a champ on its 820 / 4gb combo.

But design wise it just doesn't scream at me 'You Have To Want Me' ....

Totally agreed MRU. I find the front especially uninspiring and ugly (personally). I really don't expect anyone with a Galaxy S7/Edge to ditch for the latest HTC. It is just too soon and too little difference in performance.

But those who held off from the S7 for the myriad of reasons listed, I think will find a very nice phone here.

Well, the issue is that most of that other stuff is readily available. USB-c though is an exception, but that's a double edged sword when you try to find adapters and such, but still more a plus than a negative.

I've yet to see the specs though so maybe it will just have killer specs. But I think specs are relatively unimportant these days, certainly to your average consumer they really don't care. But even to us on the cutting edge, I think I appreciate a smaller bezel size MUCH more than a processor upgrade, as an example.

I think you're right "if priced right" it will have a small following. But otherwise it's just looks completely generic. But once again this is only my judgement based on leaked pics, I may completely change my mind after they announce it. I kind of doubt it though, HTC seems like they've been on thin ice for a long time, and they haven't had very much innovation in a long time.

While I realize this places me in a small minority, in addition to a bunch of this list being applicable to my tastes and preferences, I'll give one huge reason I'd get this over a Galaxy....I can buy a carrier free, unlocked version here in the US (if past history is any indication).

I agree with most others' early impressions. Looks good, but generic.

More importantly, I don't know if this is enough to save HTC or help them return to profit.

Agree with regards to the front of the device (especially compared to its predecessors), disagree on the back - most beautiful device on that regard 2016.

Yeah the design seems like a downgrade after the M7 and M8. Aside from the supposed decrease in front bezels, the rest is a downgrade. The huge chamfered edge on the back looks terrible in my opinion espescially when compared to the smooth back of previous HTC devices. I also think they could have been a bit more innovative with the fingerprint scanner as it currently looks like they tore the home button off the S5 and surgically attached it to the front. I also question the usability of it as it has a limited area where you can place your finger and I think accuracy will suffer as a result.

I'll still run to the store to have a look at it when it releases, maybe it just isn't photogenic. Based on current leaks I don't think I'll be sending my S7 Edge back once it finally arrives.

Regardless of my thoughts, I want HTC to be successful as there really is no true competitor to Samsung in the Android space now. I don't want Samsung to become stagnant as a result of lack of competition and I hope HTC is finally able to produce a competitive device after last year's downfall.

I find the front facing camera pretty obscure. I think it should feature FHD recording and a wide lens, but not something so gigantic.

Some leak on Phone Arena says the HTC 10 will get 5h to 6h Screen On time, and 17 hours total usage. Which to me is what I currently get on my Note 5 which is tweaked running a custom ROM.

I believe that's easily possible. With a 3,000mAh battery and the other specs, it should match Note 5 battery life.

Absolutely, that's a great reason.

It is not so easy. Most Android flagships and the iPhone 6 (not the plus) do not get this kind of battery life. 4 hours of screen on time is the most usual you can find nowadays. If the HTC 10 has 5-6 hours, it will be great.

I must say, I was not expecting to like this phone. However I can't find an objective negative. Sense ui seems even better, almost stock, speakers seem it will be better than a single firing but not as good as front facing which is fine with me, camera seems promising, even the front facing camera has ois!

Looks like a solid phone, and I'd pick it up over the LG G5 and regular small S7, easy.

The S7 Edge has the bigger battery and not that much larger overall phone. But I'm sick of Touchwiz, and there's no root or ROM's coming for the S7 line, which is a deal breaker, and makes it impossible to even think of buying then.

Hopefully the HTC 10 is easily unlocked and rooted like previous HTC phones, if so, I'll probably trade my Note 5 in for it.

Haven't looked into the specs but I hope it's lighter than the M9. All metal body made the phone heavy. I like how the put the finger reader in front instead back.

Engadget's early hands on is very favorable. It really comes down to the cameras for me.

Yeah, I really like from what I have seen in videos. I still like my choice of the S7 Edge better, but it's good that HTC seems to have brought it again this year. Love that it's the same size as the M9 but with a larger screen. And they're selling a developer model too. Can't wait to play around with one.

I wish all phone vendors would do this...

All in all, the HTC 10 looks to be an impressive device offering some compelling selling points. But will that be enough to sway consumers, especially with such fierce competition? That’s not yet clear, so we’ll have to wait and see how it does once it goes on sale later this month. The phone will be available in the US in early May but you can pre-order an unlocked device straight from HTC which starts at $699.99, including "Uh-oh protection".

So far, looks like a solid and standard 2016 update to their flagship. The design still doesn't do it for me; those giant chamfered edges are something!

Software looks clean and nice.

Looking forward to reviews and hands on.
