I personally don't have any issue with HTC releasing fixes after launch or day 1. It is the nature of the industry that things have to go to manufacture often before software is totally finalised in order to get the devices out for their deadlines.

My interest in this is more aimed at DxO who some folks on here herald as the pinnacle opinion and elevate them to pedestal status, when clearly they are not. If HTC 10 can achieve the joint highest marks on unfinished software that is acknowledged as buggy and flawed, it raises more questions on DxO's methodology and essentially confirms they should not be used to define the quality of a camera ultimately, but merely just as indicator of could be good, could be bad. Constant new threads on the forum touting DxO scores like trophies are simply redundant as they are based entirely on artificial and deceiving tests.

Somehow though I know as soon as Samsung or Apple release a new device then folks will be once again creating threads based entirely on a DxO result ....

Back to the 10...

I have the option of getting the HTC 10 myself from Three (sadly it's a carrier exclusive in Ireland and not available unless ordered from HTC unlocked) and then trying to get an unlock for it afterwards. Has anyone experience of flashing firmware on HTC devices and is it easy to change from carrier firmware to unbranded firmware ????

Well...people still look to geekbench, etc to define the best smartphone, etc. Motorola, with the original Moto X, demonstrated a long while ago that software is more important than the hardware. Despite this, people still get worked up over benchmarks. I imagine the DxO will be the same.

HTC didn't say that, the Google Nexus team did on why they ditched wireless charging.

You're right, I was thinking of a different statement: http://www.techradar.com/us/news/ph...0-doesn-t-come-with-wireless-charging-1318830

"But in my HTC briefing, I was told by Darren Sng, head of global product marketing for HTC that this wasn't the case:

"[The issues with] metal can be overcome, but that's not the reason we haven't done it [on the HTC 10]. Wireless charging is convenient, but we believe faster charging is better."

I was set up with the Jump program for the Note 5, JOD is no longer available I found out today and was not an option offered to me at the time because of that.

Maybe existing customers on that program can continue I'm not sure. Sure seems like t-mobile would lose lots of money with that program IMHO.

No one is saying day one patches don't exist. Just that with HTC, it's always an issue with the camera that needs that patch.

I feel like every year with HTC we have to wonder: "I wonder if thus review happened a before or after the camera fix update?"

After HTC promised world class best camera this year or whatever rhetoric they used...

Weird..... It's still offered and advertised here.

Not that it's not a good phone, but it looks like some of the things that were mentioned at the event have been proven wrong. 4h SOT, unless there's great standby time, shouldn't get anybody through 2 days. And the camera has also been underwhelming. I shouldn't have believed them when they said that it was the best phone camera out there. The number of times I've heard that over the past year. OnePlus 2, Moto X, Xperia Z5, and the Nexus phones have all said that I think, and none of them have been true.

MKBHD did say that it was a great all around phone, and I think that's true. I personally wouldn't get it because of the screen, but it still looks great.

I'm behind the HTC 10, but mainly for the HTC nexus. The more I think about it, the more I can't wait for the HTC nexus with android n. Hardware plus clean software that's finally adopting the useful features from TouchWiz? Plus unlocked and direct updates from Google? I could give up the waterproofing and wireless charging for this (but extra bonus points if they manage to get either of these in there!)

Go HTC. Google threw you a life line by giving you the nexus project this year. Don't disappoint!

The two things I'm mostly looking forward to are

1. A device I can grip without accidental touches or having to focus my attention on how to grip it. Just pick it up. I love the S7e aesthetics, but crikey it can be a cumbersome device to utilise at times.

2. An android device which I just set up rather than having to tinker with, install a material theme, disable redundant apps like s-health and s-voice etc. I hope Samsung eventually make all that gubbins optional in the future. Benefits of stock like android with the extra customisation lacking on stock (folders in app drawer or differing wallpaper on the home and lock etc.)

What's likely to drive me nuts are

1. Camera if it turns out to be subpar in reality

2. The home button and capacitive button alignment. The fact they are off centre on the bottom bezel annoys me from what I've seen. It's like HTC were leaving space above them for their logo and decided not to put it on last minute leaving no time to readjust the physical alignment ....

Camera will be fine. Like iPhone 6S probably fine. My S7 Edge's camera honestly is disappointing in white balance and is a step back from my S6 Edge Plus except in really dark scenes. Even in really dark scenes the colors are all off and sadly is inferior to the Nexus 6P in night shots.

Who cares about the button alignment. iPads aren't centered either, no one cared about that.

Ok ... Should have a 32gb silver HTC 10 before the end of the week :) :)

Will post pics and impressions when it arrives.
Not trying to sound condescending, but you know we'll just tell you to go for it. Why ask?

Just finished fondling the 10 demo unit again at the local Verizon store. Yup, I'm extremely excited about my preorder from HTC arriving (hopefully) soon. Build and feel in hand are just fantastic, and an example of HTC design at its finest. Love the capacitive fingerprint scanner and the ULTRA clicky side buttons. I also have high hopes that a TGSP will fit better on this screen than the S7flat or the iPhone 6s plus. The 10's screen does curve a bit at the edges, but it's very subtle.

I think the screen itself is very vibrant and crisp. Of course, not quite S7 fancy, but a fantastic panel. I wish I could have tested the external speaker(s) but the demo unit wasn't letting me. Oh well, some surprises can wait until I get mine.

I don't like the misalignment with the home button and the bezels either. I'm not always bothered by these things... But it is an odd design decision by HTC.

Holy crap, your right. Although only slightly. Thanks, now that I've seen it, I can't unsee it.

It is worse on the HTC though.

Totally agree. The Samsung pictures are easy to pick out that is for sure. The white balance looks awful to me personally.
