talked to VZW and...while they have demos in stores they cannot sell them. But I can order one online and get it tomorrow for Saturday delivery.
By default all 4G VZW phones are GSM unlocked at part of the deal they signed with the FCC.

I agree with you @gotluck...there are no perfect phones out there. Some come close with hardware but the software is not quite right. Then some have the software but the hardware is not right......

Never go Verizon, if you must go with a carrier wait for Tmo. Best option is just to buy unlocked. Not sure why you would want to support carrier branding and shenanigans (see what they are doing to the S7 right now).

I have lines on VZW and TMO as part of my addiction :(
But yeah...VZW adds more bloat and branding than any other carrier imho. All that red is evil.....

Sucks man. Haven't hit that rock bottom yet. But this is why I can't try out every phone. If you are going to lease something, you have to play by their rules.

I doubt I'd get LTE though is my thinking if I get the VZN. Why not wait and just jump with TMO is what I would do.

These videos are silly (especially the lighter part), but does give you an idea of the build durability. And looks like HTC made a pretty solid phone here.

I hate destruction videos ... To me they epitomise everything wrong with YouTube and society and sadly they are getting more and more inane as so called tech enthusiasts race to the bottom to outdo each other. Will it survive being boiled in orange juice and then frozen ?, will it survive being covered in Nutella and dropped over 100 feet ? Will it survive this frickin moron who just paid $700 for a phone and will now trash it for YouTube views?

There is no saving grace to any of them, they are redundant, shallow and appeal only to the bassist instincts of mankind ...

They sicken me .... I feel that strongly and unsubscribe from any tech enthusiast blogger who begins going down that path.

They epitomise the sense of entitlement generation who have no concept of value or worth not only for inanimate devices but for other humans / members of society.

I wholeheartedly agree but I also completely understand the perspective of YouTubers whose income is dependent upon the number of views on their videos. If I remember correctly, unboxtherapy earned over $50k for his iPhone 6+ bending video. The price of a phone is really a small investment given the potential profit that could be earned if your video goes viral.

The problem is Unbox Therapy set a precedent and now there are literally hundreds of stupid wannabe's who are racing to the bottom as fast as they can. The plethora of idiots willing to break their devices on the off chance they will be a youtube sensation is mind boggling, and they will unlikely ever reach enough view count because of their being so much dissemination of stupidity that the aim of getting revenue will likely be a fool hardy exercise, and it is why I will likewise refuse to watch those videos and reward them with a view/hit. We should not reward idiots - just as we shouldn't feed trolls.

What bothered me even more was the amount of people who watched the UnboxTherapy video and then went to Apple stores to try and bend the display models. Its one thing to do it on video with your own device but this ventured deep into criminal territory.

It's really a race to the bottom for all but 3 or so large YouTubers, the rest are trying to reinvent the wheel by creating what in my opinion are irrelevant and plainly stupid tests for smartphones.

There's a value in knowing how shatterproof a device is but knowing if it will survive being frozen in Nutella and then washed off in cola is just plain idiotic.

YouTube is way too saturated at the moment and the only way to differentiate yourself is to do idiotic things, the big YouTubers will keep earning views regardless of what they do.

The thing I have noticed as of lately is a drastic decline in the quality of video reviews posted to YouTube. MKBHD is a prime example with his latest HTC 10 Review and there are many others. They just churn out videos in the hopes of maintaining view counts and in turn continuing to earn vast amounts of money.

Have used my HTC for a day now and can confirm it is WAY faster and a much superior overall experience than the S7 Edge its sitting next to.

Only downside for me is that the display has inferior viewing angles and the battery is 600mah less than the S7 Edge, so 20% battery life loss.

So is it a keeper if no other downsides you uncover? Battery life was a given, it isn't a phablet. And does the camera performance weigh in a decision?

No, the camera is not quite on par with the S7 Edge for daily ease of use, but is no worse than the iPhone 6S (which in some ways was worse than the iPhone 6). So at this point, cameras are all pretty equal, until they decide to in a 1 inch sensor in these phones (no reason they couldn't, just space that could be used by battery) . But the front camera is actually better and stabilized.

Battery actually idles better than the S7.

Some over at XDA have said they have some heat issues with the 10. Have you tried gaming or did it get hot when you were installing your apps? I want to try this phone but don't know when TMO will have it....

Is this out in the UK yet? I thought it was release day yesterday but, after checking numerous EE, Three, Carphone stores earlier, there's not a 10 in sight.

The only store with a demo plastic model tied to the wall by a cable and a sticker for a screen was one CPW store. However, when I asked if they had any stock to look at, I Was told HTC used to send models earlier but now only do it once it's released...which I thought it was.

I hopped around a bit this morning, three Verizon locations did not have the 10 in stock yet. Nice going, lol.

The a9 gets a bit warm, it is pretty noticeable when I tried it at AT&T stores.

No, I don't play games on tiny screens but I will install Hearthstone maybe later.

battery life is about the same as S7E. 2h screen on in 13hours off the charger. Did some streaming music, doenloads, and nav as well.

Keep it relative though. The S7 is a better comparison since it pushes similar pixels and has a similar screen size. The Edge is a tweener, it's not quite the Note, but it's not the S7 regular either.

So I had a hands-on earlier at a store, primarily to see and try the camera for myself.

It was a) sluggish to capture and b) slow to process/write the shot. This is what I've read in reviews and tallies with the slow read/write speeds. Turning off HDR made little difference and the processing circle still was obvious post-shot. I'm comparing shooting process with an SE.

Maybe, just maybe, this was not the latest update. I hope it wasn't or it's not gonna help sales. It wasn't running any demo software as the rep had set it up on a dummy account for showing customers rather than it being on a stand looping some features.

It's a shame as I liked the rest of the device. Nice feel, easy to handle, and bloat free. Decent sound and a responsive scanner akin to the OP2. Good Pro mode for the camera, too.

The other major issue was price. £44 for 4gb data 2-year contract with £60 upfront. Ouch.

Will wait for more feedback here as to the effect of any updates.

I've had the 10 for a couple days now. Still too soon to judge battery. LOVE the feel in hand of this phone. Perfect for me. My fingers keep exploring the chamfers on the back much like they did the dimple on the Moto X. Just feels good. Camera has been impressive in my use so far. I'll try to post a couple pics later today.

All of them look great, especially the first one. I love how phones can take practically perfect low-light shots.

EDIT: Sorry, meant outdoor shots. Low-light shots are still great though.

As some have mentioned on XDA, there's almost zero visibility of the screen when wearing polarized sunglasses. Just FYI in case that has an impact on your purchasing decisions.

Yeah I believe like the LG G5 if you hold them in landscape you will see the screen through the polarised lens but in portrait they disappear. Whereas on the S7 it's the opposite. Portrait is fine, but landscape it disappears under polarised filter.
