$100 off, free gift, uh oh protection. Possibly around $200 off in value. There might be price drops close to that in 6 months or so. But then we are close to the Nexus release. I think it is a pretty nice price right now.

What's the free gift? I haven't received an email or anything after my purchase. Strange. I hope it's the headphones that are USB Type C or something solid.

But I'll wait for further feedback from the folks here, particular those who have the S7E to compare.

Thats my thought process as well, right?

But there is nothing drawing me to the HTC10 as its just sort of a Toyota Camry of smart phones where this iteration fixed a lot of problems with past ones and looks to very serviceable and a great phone that you could use for a very long time.

The S7E is like the ferrari that is impractical at times due to the edge and delicate nature of the device and how sensitive parts of it are but its beautiful screen and design draws you in.

(Dont quote this post if/when I post that I bought it :))

I never had the touch screen issues with the edge. I have bad battery and occasionally the UI will get very, very stuttery. I think it may be more due the difference between the 820 and exynos. I haven't heard any complaints from people with the exynos model.

But that is its biggest draw, along with the build quality. I love android, and recently found I couldn't really get a long with my old 6s Plus, because of how I have set up, and use my Android phone. I really prefer the android operating system at this point. But iOS always offers a constant, smooth experience.

I am finding that is the most important thing in a phone experience for me. The Nexus 6p was equally smooth, but I had to give it up, due to no fault in the device. The HTC 10 looks to over the same smooth, dependable experience, and the unlocked version offers nexus like updates (I hope). Combine that with some other advantage the 10 has, and it very well could be what you said: "a great phone that you could use for a very long time".

Isn't that the ultimate goal?

***

I'm a phone addict, so that is a lofty expectation. But I i stick with this device, I will be independent of a carrier, which will be a good thing in curbing my addiction.

I won't go out and buy a Note 6 at full price; unless Samsung offers an upgrade program, on unlocked versions similar to Apple. Assuming they don't, the phone I use for a long time (hopefully) will either be the HTC 10....or the HTC 10 with a move to the next Nexus.

I guess I'll know more over the next few days, since my phone should arrive tomorrow.

Sounds like it will fit exactly what you are looking for and hope it does for all.

For someone that enjoys testing phones every 3-6 months it seems a tad on the vanilla side for me to jump to or try coming from the S7E.

Enjoy it and all the positive feedback here may tempt me

Don't know yet. You should get the email a day or two after your phone ships.

Hardly would call the HTC 10 a camry and the s7 a ferrari. Come on, they have basically the same internals. Personally, I think the HTC 10 design looks way better (minus the screen of course).

This is the S7 edge car comparison for me (or really any Samsung flagship)....

Anyone have connection issues with the 10? Mine seems to drop Internet a few times. Then time out on other things like downloading files from Dropbox or Google Drive. My other phones and devices aren't dropping Internet connections so it is just the 10. Might have to do a factory rest I'm the morning.

when you hold them side the difference is really clear. I will do a video tomorrow of the s7e and HTC10. Just the display alone is a big difference. But I did a side by side music test. The s7e sounded better to me. But like i said I will do a little video and let you guys decide.

As someone that had both, I will say I like the HTC 10 more than the S7 Edge from a software perspective, but the S7E has a way better camera! The fact that the HTC 10 can't touch to expose bothers me. I just went to the Tori Kelly concert with my wife and I attempted to take a picture of her and it was ridiculous. The image was blown out and I couldn't see anyone on the stage, just lights.

I had to touch the sun button and scroll it down until the light was under control so I can see the stage.

My wife just whipped out her iPhone tapped the stage and voila, it was properly exposed for that type of lighting. The HTC was useless tonight. Camera was so useless.

If photos are a priority, I'd stay away from the HTC 10. It's not bad, and certainly on the top 5 best in daylight for sure.

There's meant to be a firmware coming that fixes WiFi issues (it was posted on here a few pages back).

Thankfully i don't have them on mine, so it could depend on other factors such as router and WiFi radio frequency.

I just got my second software update this morning. The update was 400MB to fix WiFi and camera software issues.

They have basically the same internals and HTC has arguably better software and support. Gs7 has better screen camera and arguably aesthetics. Camry versus Ferrari is crazy talk unless we're talking about reliability and longevity ;) 2 years from now the 10 will be in better shape I wager

well they are getting more updates that's for sure. I have had two big updates to fix issues in less than 24 hours since I had the M10.

I just wish it had touch to expose in the camera. And like Erica said, a longer shutter speed. The flare is super annoying as well. I don't think that can be fixed with software.

Has anyone tried putting on a third party camera app?

You would be surprised what software updates can do. The camera is the same as the 6p, so the flare is likely software processing or whatever. Right?

Yes I've tried third party camera but not extensively. I only attempted to see if third party cameras would enable touch to expose. I didn't check for lens flare.

I'd be surprised if the lens flare was software. I personally believe it to be the lens itself. I mean maybe software can correct that but I don't feel HTC will take the time to get that in. I mean I hope I'm wrong but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

Your could be right. I don't know enough about optics to say.

Waiting for my phone to arrive via fedex right now, while debating buying the new Doom game or not....

I'm by no means an optics expert either. Just some non-informed end user making an assumption lol. It could all be software and nothing more. So take what I say with doubt or as they say with a grain of salt.

I hope more updates are on the horizon.

No that's overexposure and the only say to fix that is press the sun and bring it down. Like I said earlier I was at a concert and with all the lights I could not see anything. While my wife's iPhone she just touched the stage and it changed the entire focal point and fixed all the exposure. It was a better experience on her phone.

*Edit* actually I'd say that's over exposure. If you take a pic with the sun you can see the flare.

Looks like I am joining on the HTC 10 party too. I can't believe it either because I said HTC was done before the 10 was announced. Then, I was pleasantly surprised.

I look forward to the DAC audio, boom sound, QHD LCD panel HTC uses, near Nexus experience, the newer and improved FP scanner, etc. If I like it, I will return mine, wait for a price drop and buy it. HTCs are notorious for tanking in value pretty quick. I love my S7 Edge a lot, but for the software hassles Samsung has, it is scary what the future may or may not hold.

Purchasing the A9 new and through a carrier the price did not drop quickly. The secondary market would be a different story though.

Just doing a bit of trash talking the s7's are beautiful phones ;)

We're talking about fine lines here IMO :)

Samsung fanboys need to come down a notch or five. They are apple level around here sometimes. Especially when comparing two phones that are essentially the same.
