Good to be fans of something though no? I am a fan of certain sports teams, cities, restaurants, ski resorts, airlines, etc. Not really a bad thing. Don't take it personally, all in good fun.

I am a huge fan of Nexus. Not the recent phones so much, but I am proudly a Nexus fanboy.

And no, I don't buy it at all the "middle ground" some try to play around here. But all good.
[doublepost=1463185435][/doublepost]And really this thread is about the HTC 10. And just like I have been asked to stay out of threads where I scrutinize other phones, same should apply here no? Yet time after time this has been derailed by how the Samsung is better. Shouldn't that stay in the Samsung thread? Just seems a bit one sided that is all.
But thats different. Being a fan of a sports team means you stick with them through thick and thin, good years and bad. But being a fan of a product or company doesn't mean you do the same. I like my Apple products now, but if they release something bad I'm not going to buy it and I'll get something else instead.

I'm using the Google Keyboard but it won't update to the 5.0 version. Do you guys think it's just not supported. I downloaded the APK and it installs but doesn't perform correctly.

Can you elaborate, what do you mean by it is not performing correctly ?

I installed the APK and it works fine on my 10.

Ah the Samsung crowd comes in to applaud HTC but still talk about how much better Touchwiz is getting these days

Honestly, bottom line, if you own your phone less then a year (like most everyone here) it doesn't matter. But if you go longer than a year, the Samsung honeymoon is over. The phone slows down, updates stop, battery life tanks. They suck period. So really, there just doesn't seem any point to boast Touchwz or Samsung when you don't own the phone long enough to be exposed to any of the downsides. 95% of people keep their phones more than a year. And for the vast majority, they need to consider this as a part of their purchasing decision.
Had my Note 4 since launch day, almost 2years old now, it has received Android 6.0.1, which has made the UI a lot smoother and improved battery life, so I'm not sure what you're on about.

And my note 5 is still on lollipop.

That is a bummer, as unlocked Note5 have received the update if I'm not mistaken.
There are some unlocked international models that have not. The thing with 'unlocked' is that there isn't just 1 universal unlocked model. Just as all the carriers have variations, every country has its own unlocked firmware and CSC or CID (code) meaning that if your neighbour country has the update on their unlocked device, doesn't automatically equate to you getting it either at same time, or straight after. You could be waiting months.

This is not just a Samsung thing. My HTC 10 for example is unlocked and unbranded, because i had to import to get one like that it means I will have to wait specifically till HTC roll out updates to Taiwan territory, even if a European country like Germany got the unlocked firmware ...

I wish there was only 1 or at most 2 universal unlocked / unbranded devices released by a manufacturer regardless of territory so we all got updates at same time.

Yep, that is an Android issue and always will be.

Its the same for all OEMs. I remember even when I had a Xperia X10 back in 2010, I changed its country code to UK as thats where Sony (Sony Ericsson at the time) released updates quickest.

People love going at Samsung WRT updates but all OEMs have the same issue. My mates unlocked LG G3 still hasn't received 6.0.1, yet another mates old Vodafone Samsung Galaxy S5 has received 6.0.1, it differs country to country and with some region to region i.e. Middle-East & Africa, North America, countries in the Pacific, Asia etc... Its down to how the OEM and carriers plan the Roll-Out.

HTC 10 vs. LG G5 vs. Samsung Galaxy S7: Camera Shootout

http://m.gsmarena.com/htc_10_vs_lg_g5_vs_samsung_galaxy_s7_edge-review-1437.php

The 10 does pretty well in it.

Yeah it echoes the shootout I posted few days back, they all win at something. Is the HTC 10 the best smartphone camera ? No. But it is finally in the top tier and competing.

Hopefully many of the issues such as slow focus in video and such can be corrected in software, including the aggressive and imprecise ISO choosing the auto mode utilises which often runs counter to the best option for that particular scene.

The S7/e & G5 and iPhone 6S/+ are still ahead especially with maturer refined software, but it's good to see HTC finally on their coat tails after 3 years of being a good distance behind.

I guess I should ask if you're using adoptable storage? A buddy of mine suggests that my issues could be stemming from this.

To elaborate there was slow down and typing lag. Dropped frames with gesture typing.

No I'm not using adoptable storage. Unless you are using the latest fastest Class 10 U3 card then you are going to likely slow your device storage down. Class 10 U1 cards are cheap and offer large storage but are not really suitable for continuous random writes as they are very slow.

So if you are using adoptable storage with a U1 Class 10 that indeed could cause problems with intermittent slow down generally, not just with typing but in other areas too.

Yeah, I'm using exactly that, so I'll either A) reformat to just use the internal storage, or B) buy a SDXC II 1800x card, which is likely what I will do because 32 GB is enough for me if I don't install all my games, but not if I do.

Yup. At&t.
you have to put that on AT&T as all the other carriers have released marshmallow for the N5.

yep agreed. HTC has come a long way from the mistakes they made in the past. I have no doubt their camera prowess will evolve and mature even more. The 10 camera is pretty good.

So MRU (and anyone else interested) I went ahead and did a complete reformat and opted not to use the SD card as internal and the keyboard is great. Performance is not like I first experienced. In fact a lot of my stuttering frames and animations are gone too. I ordered a SDXC II 1800x card so hopefully that improves my performance.

It's faster than the typical SD cards capable of 4k streaming and recording so let's see if that works. According to the advertisement it's capable of speeds faster than my internal storage so we'll see.

That's what I ordered. What are your thoughts

Very Cool, glad that has solved those issues you were having.

What I would do is see how you get on as adoptable storage is nice in principal but at the moment if you can choose to store your media (the bulk of our storage use) on the SD card within the apps like Camera and PlayMusic then is there really at present a need to use the adoptable option.

I am using a similar 1800x card 32gb in mine to bolster storage and for music & photos / 4k recording. I still choose separate option as I too had random issues with adoptable when it was in my Moto X Style. (Though that was with like you a class 10 U1)

As i am only using internal storage for apps and such I have more than enough space on it left that I don't think I'll need to take advantage of adoptable option. I think it's a great feature but too much in its infancy at the moment.

Yup, this is why I don't like using the SD card for anything other than media, I hate the performance hit you take. It's also why I don't like how OEMs use the SD card as an excuse not to offer higher storage options, that's why I didn't mind when they stop offering the SD card slot these last couple years, I was able to get 64gb models.

I wonder if the SDXC IIs take a hit or not. Their theoretical speeds are the same or higher than the internal read and write speeds. If not then I'll just return the 1800x I bought. I'll try it out first of course.

In theory you would think it wouldn't take a hit
