That phone is really awesome looking. Call me shallow though but I could never get it because of the "Porsche Design" wording on the front. That would drive me bonkers.

Yeah....that is a little over the top for me too :)

It also looks like a S8/S9. Plus, it highlights (at least from the example image on their website) the issue I have with Android and inconsistent icon designs. They have all those custom designed icons (which don't look that great IMO) and then the Google ones that stick out like a sore thumb. Seriously, who thought this was a good promo image?

Have to agree with you on those images! Not a fan of EMUI so Nova goes on first thing on Huawei phones for me.

I'm really enjoying using this device.
The screen feels pretty immersive, which is strange considering it has a chin and a notch, but it feels like the Essential phone felt to me, even though that looks more screen than this does.

I am also getting used to the size of the phone and am pretty impressed with almost everything about it.

The camera is phenomenal, screen is amazing and the battery is truly stellar.

The more I use it the more I could see myself actually using it full time although I'm happy with my iPhone X as my main device currently.

I actually had a dream about this the P20 Pro last night. I definitely have a problem and should seek help. :)

Haha or just give into temptation? :p
What I will say though, is that I so so wish that I got the blue version (even though it wasn't an option). I am sorely tempted to wait for the twilight colour and swap it out. Yes, I'm that mad.
But the black is so boring!

The twilight color is the one I would get if I did do this. I don't think it's out yet and I'm not sure how easy this would be to get it in the US since it's difficult to get even the black one. But yeah, I'd not get the black. It's a bit boring.

Couldn't agree more. Funny that I want the twilight too when I've looked at the back of this phone about once since I got it haha. So I don't know why it's so important to me lol.

I have found that the phone is a tiny bit stuttery at times. Nothing crazy, a similar thing to what I noticed on the S9 I had, but it's there nonetheless. I think the Pixel 2 spoiled me with just how amazingly quick and fluid that was.

Funnily enough it's only happened since applying the Pixel launcher. Whereas the S9 stopped the stuttering when I installed the Pixel launcher to that. Weird!

Is your P20 running Oreo? If so which distribution? 8.0 or 8.1?

I've got the S8+ at the moment, is this a worthwhile upgrade?

I've also heard Huawei are poor at updates. Is there an expectation that this is going to change with the P20 & P20 Pro?

They can not get cdma network in the US, that is ignoring some customers, not a good sign.
Most imported phones from over seas are GSM and GSM only. There are no CDMA networks anywhere except in the US that I am aware of.

The S8+ is a superb phone. You are better off waiting until later this year and compare the P20 Pro against other phones due in the next 6 months.

I get what you're saying, and the Pixel 3 is the device I'm most interested in, but I'm not really one for playing the waiting game. Besides, when does it end

So this auto dimming thing that keeps happening whenever I go into an app is beginning to really get on my nerves.

I go into an app and the screen dims. I come out of it back to my home screen and my brightness returns to where I set it. Go into another app and it dims. Give me strength.

Another annoyance is the phone keeps reverting back to turning auto brightness on. I have lost count how many times I've toggled it off. Even when I switch it off this dimming within apps is happening and it's driving me insane!

Could that be hidden in the power saving menus somewhere? That would drive me bonkers after a while :)

Apparently it's an issue since EMUI 5.
Nothing changed from that to 8 which seems bonkers.

Edit: Turning auto brightness on actually stops this from happening. Apparently it's a built in feature to help preserve battery. I'd rather be able to turn it off, but at least having auto on stops it happening as it's really annoying.

Has anybody managed to change the launcher successfully?

I've tried to set both Nova and Action Launcher as the default but when I press the home button it goes to EMUI with an error message saying that a serious error has occurred by Nova/Action Launcher and it is recommended to uninstall the application.

Anybody has similar or know how to get around it?

I am using the Pixel 2 launcher on my P20 Pro and it's working fine although it was difficult to get it up and running.

It's as if Huawei don't want you to change their launcher. o_O

Re Nova, I'm not sure sorry.
I know that I've read of others (but can't remember where) who have struggled a little bit with Nova on this device.
Might be worth searching XDA Forums maybe? Sorry couldn't help further - hope you get it sorted.

Thank you for your reply.

Is it possible to point me to where you got the Pixel launcher from (and if there was anything in particular that you had to do to get it to work). I have downloaded one but again, the P20 doesn’t want it to work!

I’m really enjoying the phone otherwise but this is frustrating along with the dimming brightness that you mentioned earlier in this thread.
