Thank you for your reply.

Is it possible to point me to where you got the Pixel launcher from (and if there was anything in particular that you had to do to get it to work). I have downloaded one but again, the P20 doesn’t want it to work!

I’m really enjoying the phone otherwise but this is frustrating along with the dimming brightness that you mentioned earlier in this thread.

this one should work (I know you didn't quote me ;) ). I don't have the P20 but this has workd for me on other non-Pixel devices.

Yeah the brightness was a PITA. Just turn auto brightness off and it fixes it!

Re the launcher. If you've downloaded it, go into settings then apps and notifications and then 'default apps'. There will be a launcher tab. Hit it and choose your launcher.

Really strange way to go about it, but it worked for me :)

@Aneres11 wow those are gorgeous pics. Behold the power of the zoom!

I do notice that so far none of the phone cameras in tandem with their onboard software can tame bright highlights the way the pixel 2 software does. But I think overall, with the P20 and the Samsung S9/9+, we are seeing the advances in the hardware shown off to great advantage.

I almost pre-ordered a P20 pro on Saturday!

Then sensibility kicked in....

I also almost ordered the Pro because I like trying Android every once in a while before gifting the phones away. Then I realized I don’t really have that much extra money.

I almost did too from eBay. This phone is getting harder and harder to resist. Then @Aneres11 isn’t helping with all this great pictures he posts showing off that camera

I’m with you on the Note 9! I hope the rumors of an early release are true.

I’ll pass don’t want to buy any thing from an evil Chinese mega Corp.

Seriously?!

THE ONLY reason their "evil" is because the United States of America's Trillion dollar debt is OWNED by Chinese! Plain and simple. No substantial evidential proof of all the fears or claims that Huawei is doing anything more than that the FBI, CIA, etc in the USA are already and HAVE been doing for almost a decade through AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile USA, etc etc with all of their citizens. Do you know anything about Snowden and what he actually brought to the entire worlds attention??!?! Really?

Of all the global players for creating, building, upgrading mobile networks how many are USA company's and strong enough on a global scale to compete? Motorola? LMAO ...

Huawei,
Ericsson - used to be THE emininent top player until the last 2yrs when upgrades where held off by so many global players and Huawei was eating their lunch with better details (cost effective) and up to date equipment delivered faster.
Nokia Siemens,
Motorola

In the USA alone I'm only are of Motorola that will benefit from the Trump administrations fear of any technology advances from China. This simply is the "America first" plan ... it's all about the money my friend.

Always remember ...

"HE who has the gold, makes the rules" in your land.

Yep, and the release is supposed to be early.
I know I said I'd never get s notch phone but the P20 pro had an option to remove the not have and being OLED, it wouldn't be other me too much.
Nice phone but the lack of wireless charging and the impending Note 9 release made it an easy decision.
P20 pro and V30 are the only flagships that have made me think about switching.

I love this camera!

Fantastic zoom! The P20 Pro makes an excellent replacement for a point and shoot on a holiday. I also appreciate that the AI processing isn't aggressive - leaving room for you to do whatever you like with the photos.

The processing can be heavy. On those ones, it tried to add the blue sky / greenery filter which I just knocked off as it is too heavy in those scenarios.

It’s strange, as it captures really accurate colours without it so seems odd it defaults to it!

I've been using the P20 Pro a while now since launch and I love it just as much now as I did when I first got it. In fact, maybe even more.

It's locked to EE though, so I haven't been able to use it as my primary device (my main line is Vodafone that everyone contacts me on), which means I haven't tested it extensively.

I am tempted to sell this one, and re-buy an unlocked version but in the metallic blue colour.
The black feels a little bit characterless to me. I think I'd prefer to be able to use it as my 'daily driver' as and when I feel, which an unlocked model would allow, and also have a more interesting looking device to boot.

The blue is Carphonewarehouse exclusive, (as all the best colours of phones generally are  ) and has been out of stock since pre-orders started. But it's showing as being in stock on 25th April, so might be worth me trying to pick one up then.

I'll see though. I've been half tempted by a regular P20 after watching camera reviews of it. Strangely, the P20 seems to be on par with the Pro in good lighting and still has the same night mode capabilties to produce sunning shots in virtual darkness. Weirdly, some shots actually seems truer to life on the P20 than the Pro, almost as if the Pro is doing too much with its AI despite them both utilising it.
The trade offs are the zoom functionality which doesn't compare on the regular model, battery, and OLED screen. But as the AOD is pretty garbage on the P20 Pro, I'm not hugely fussed on that.

Plus it then becomes a much better size for my tastes.
What makes it hard though, is some reviwers are saying the regular P20 camera is nowhere near as good, others are saying outside of the zoom feature, the P20 can be just as good (if not better in some cases) as the Pro.

Strange findings!

My husband has been looking at P20/20 Pro reviews. He’s definitely interested. I think he’s waiting on the Note 9, though. He likes the S-pen. But this forbidden Huawei is just so much fun for us Americans to ponder!

I love reading about the P20/20 Pro. It’s such an interesting phone. The Chinese take on smart phones is just different enough to be intriguing. What they’ve done with the glass finishes and the iridescent sheen is just breathtaking. @Aneres11 I hope you’re able to get your hands on one of those beauties!

But I’m not coveting them. My heart is set on a second iPhone 8 Plus, in red this time. I’ve been bargain hunting good quality cases for it and hope to pick one up sometime in the next couple of weeks. We will be trading in an old 6 Plus to help get a bit of a discount on the price, like we did for my silver one. The way my life is currently set up I can’t really fully leave iOS. But I’m not ready to move forward with the models they’re rumored to be providing.

So I’m settling down a good long time with this model, in two favorite colors, and bidding goodbye to the Apple upgrade cycle for a few years. I’m not ready to embrace Face ID exclusively. And I actually find I like the chubby bezels. :p I really appreciate the LCD display. It’s the easiest on my eyes, though thankfully I do well on my S9+ OLED display, too.

I’m not sure what I’ll do on the Android side. I’m ridiculously happy with my S9+ and Pixel 2. But there’s a hopeful young lady with big hazel eyes who wants Snowball the Pixel 2 very badly. So I’m probably going to be down to just my S9+ in a couple of months. But I’m not completely sold on the idea of passing Snowball over; so it’s something that bears more thought and discussion.

I still have my S8+ available to trade in on a Note 9 or S10 next year. I’m not sure I really care to upgrade though. I just got my S9+. It’s a glorious shade of purple. I want better battery life but enough to upgrade? Eh.

I’m really happy living vicariously through everyone on the forum.

My head is going to totally explode when the Essential 2 is released. I’m going to sit down with a cup of coffee and drool over the articles and comments. :D It’s a phone I have no intention of owning but I really look forward to seeing what they’re doing for an encore. It’s an exciting time to be a smart phone connoisseur, especially an Android one. :D

Me too, for about a minute. Then I realized I could never go back to an iPhone that didn't have Face ID and gestures.
Ah, yeah I’m an old stick in the mud. I can take or leave Face ID. I didn’t find Face ID as convenient to implement as Touch ID now is for me. Admittedly, Touch ID on iPhones and Samsungs worked horribly for me for years. :( But on both, fingerprint sensors are working great for me at long last. :D I’m reluctant to part ways with it now that it works so well and I finally get to experience what everyone else with their great fingerprints have been raving about so enthusiastically for years. :p

I can take or leave gestures. I thought they were fun when I had the X, but I am at ease with the home button and the old way of doing things.

The iPhone 8 Plus is almost the perfect iPhone for me. (It would be totally perfect if it still had a 3.5 mm headphone jack and Samsung S9+ level image and audio recording quality). But the fact I do have an S9+ mitigates those shortcomings.

Anyway, I’ll rock two of them and ride this wave for as long as I can. I do enjoy all of the iPhone rumors, but they don’t really do anything for me anymore. The excitement and anticipation has been gone since I returned my iPhone X. It probably died a little bit before that, honestly. And that’s a good thing. I can turn my attention and interest to other things.

Once I fulfill some obligations I have and finish tedious projects like organizing my office and the garage and storage building, I plan to turn my attention to getting back into art. It’s been many years and a lot of people in my life have forgotten I used to do some beautiful work. I was partially sidelined by a traumatic hand injury and toddler-raising, but years have passed and my circumstances are favoring a return to creativity. I’m also probably going to get drafted to work on gardens and landscaping for the schools again this summer, which is what I’ve been doing the past few years. But it’s about to get more intense. Some big projects are on the table and volunteers with my skills and love of getting grungy are needed. :D

I’ll still be on this forum. I just won’t be upgrading technology at the pace I’d been keeping. Well, not on the iOS side of things anyway. I make no such proclamations about the Android side. I like my S9+ well enough that I can envision using it two years. But...just...I don’t know. Android phones are too danged sexy! ;)
