For me, the X is a completely different experience to the 8. Far less manageable with one hand, much heavier, screen real estate bigger but not useful (for me) as too long and narrow, also feels unbalanced in the hand. Add this to my dislike of OLED, (PWM issues make it uncomfortable to use), meant that I returned the X for an 8 and 6 months on, have no regrets. However, I liked Face ID and gestures, so looking forward to the rumoured 6.1” LCD model, as long as it’s not too limited in specs.

For me I also use my iPhone flat on my desk at work a lot during the day. It’s next to my keyboard and I unlock it to use it with my finger without needing to pick it up. I would imagine it’s quite a common use case but then again those with FaceID can just use the passcode. It’s annoying but a workaround I suppose.
As an owner of the X who also has their phone laying flat on their work desk, believe me it becomes very annoying having to pick it up or bend your neck to unlock it to read notifications. I'm sorry but people who say this doesn't happen to them are straight up lying.

I think the main limitations with the 6.1 LCD iPhone will be lack of wireless charging, it will use aluminum and not a glass backing, different 3D Touch implementation, cheaper LCD panel, likely not have the latest Camera specifications as well.

Wireless charging is a nice feature but not a reason to buy a phone imho. Otherwise I would of just stayed with Samsung over the years

The thing is, face ID isn't awful its just not apple feature perfect like I've grown used to. It's failed more for me than id imagine. I find myself having to input my password at least a couple of times a day.

I see the convenience with wireless charging, I just don’t have the need for it. I still use my phones with cables. I think wireless charging is nice to have in the car which eliminates the clutter of the wire, but still requires direct placement on a pad. But I still like to use my devices while they’re charging at times with the use of a wire.

At night I love it . Just place it on a mat and be done with it . Also if you have an office job just put it on a mat and pick up when needed and you’ll never have to worry about charging the phone. I use it and it’s nice but it’s not needed. I like that Apple used it and is using Qi instead of some dumb Apple one

Face ID for me has never failed unless I’m laying down but that’s understandable. I love it.

When the Airpower releases during the Fall Keynote, that might make me change my mind, where I can take advantage of charging other devices simultaneously at once. That alone I think will be unique.

I don’t have an Apple Watch and air pods because I do fairly switch between Android and iOS phones a lot. I have a Fossil smart watch that I prefer actually because it looks like a watch and does what I want anyways which is tell me my notifications.

A close friend and I have been commiserating for the last few weeks. We both have had our phones for about half a year now I guess, and we both hate them. And it’s not just us, others we’ve talk to you can’t stand them as well.

The phone is too small. I am constantly hitting the side buttons during normal use and that never happened with my plus sized phones. I had to turn Siri off and that has saved me much grief, but I’m still hitting the on/off button in the middle of usage and turning the stupid thing off. Grrrrrr!

Face ID sucks for unlocking the phone, I’ll do I do quite like it in lieu of entering passwords in apps and on other sites where I am required to login, Such as this one. I much preferred unlocking the phone with my finger which I could do while the phone was laying flat on my desk. Now I have to pick it up and stare at the damn thing. Grrrrrr!

My friend says she has too many dropped calls but I never use my phone as a phone so that doesn’t happen to me.

Watching videos West better on my plus sized phones, and no matter how many times people say the screen is bigger it just isn’t. It’s a lie because in order to watch a video fullscreen you have to zoom in and then you lose some of the picture.

Switching between apps is not as easy as it used to be with a home button.

I’m sure I could name a few more but those are my main gripes.

The larger iPhone X phone that is coming is certain to alleviate some of these gripes but I honestly am going to have to think about whether I want to purchase that one or return to a Plus sized—-iPhone 9 Plus?

Ugh! I have been using iPhones since the original and I’ve loved every single one of them except this one. At this point I can’t even say that I like it.

Huge mistake.

Sorry for the typos, but you can blame Siri because she sucks ass as well.

Hmmm..
Side buttons I somewhat agree with, I take accidental screenshots on a regular basis, so thats annoying.

Other than that I love my iPhone X. I have had pretty much every iPhone since the 3G and it is close to if not my favorite. The only other iPhone that I could even come close to saying I liked better was my 5s.

I have not had a plus model but I personally find the iPhone X almost too big so I know I would not like a plus model device.

Switching apps is WAY easier than with the home button IMO. Especially since you can just swipe the bottom bar to switch apps. The gestures I find more intuitive and easier than using the home button for a lot of functions. Control Center makes way more sense and is easier to use in the position it is in on the X.

So YOU and YOUR FRIEND don't like the X, that is your prerogative. Get an 8+ if you hate it so much.

Why a 7 or 8? The x is basically an 8 sized body . One reason I got an X after going back to an Note 8

Here's why. My X64GB was $1579, my daughters 8 256GB i got one week old for $600.

If that's true you may be the only person in the world that it has NEVER failed in everyday use. Buy a lottery ticket :)

Nope my friends x has never failed them whenever I seen them use it .

As another member mentioned above me, both biometric security methods are not perfect and have their own downfalls. Touch ID as much as it was very good, had its inconsistencies with cold weather. Just like Face ID can be used in areas were touch ID would not function, just The fact that you don’t even have to take off your gloves in colder weather to use face ID, while even wearing a hat or glasses is convenient by itself.

User error. You are not holding the phone properly to scan your face or you have your eyes closed or looking away.

Wow, so much hate for the original poster. This person is just offering his opinion on what doesn’t work for him.

One of the main reasons I like MacRumors is for the honest evaluations of hardware and software. It’s helps me to make the right decision when I decide to get a new phone. Some of the things that bother others might also be a bother for me or if not, it’s still good to be aware before I make the purchase. There is no way that I would know these issues the OP discusses by handling the phone at the Apple store.

So thanks to the OP and I take your post as informative and not as whining. Please continue to offer your opinions on MacRumors and ignore the haters.

I wouldn’t say honest lol. Half of his post was stuff he knew from the get go. Doesn’t take 6 months to figure it out

I completely agree with this!

I'm in the market for a new iPhone myself and plan to remain with iOS but am unsure whether to go iPhone 8, X, or fix my 6 and wait to see what might be announced in September. There is certainly a lot of attention given to the X as Apple's "flagship" iPhone model which could influence a consumer to want that latest and greatest model. But there are also dissenting opinions. I appreciate viewpoints like that of the OP because they might help me consider things that would be a plus/minus for my own use case.

I can also see how it might take far more than the 14 day trial period of trying to adjust to major changes in form and function, especially in a phone as hyped as the X, before finally concluding it just isn't a good match. Heck, how many of us have made other big ticket purchases (cars, computers, houses?) where it took time for drawbacks and frustrations to pile up? Buyer's regret doesn't always happen right away.

Personally, unless there is a major issue, it takes a couple of weeks for the shine to wear off...

It takes 10 mins to get used to the new UI, you know if you like FID or not in 14 days.

Buyers regret doesn’t take six months and by the tone of the OP it’s more of a complaining thread for the sake of it then a constructive criticism. The gestures , Face ID and the notch you can clearly tell within a few hours if you’ll hate it or like it . The form factor a few days not six months. If it did for him to sell it and move on
