The 18:9 aspect ratio helps the because it doesn’t allow the notch to cut off any videos which are shown in 16:9.

Which makes the screen size similar to the small 8.

The width of the plus makes the phone ungodly to hold

Some people like the width, bigger keyboard to type. I notice it when i use my wife's 8 plus, much easier to type on.

2) OLED helps battery life not hurt it

From what i have read and my experience oled when browsing with white background chews battery more than lcd.

Just get an Apple Watch lol. Its more discreet, you can keep it up your sleeve and it’s not face sensitive ;)

After spending €1149 for iPX (or €1319 for 256GB), why someone need to spend extra €369 for a watch just so he can use ApplePay comfortably?

FaceID is nice gimmick, maybe in the future it will be good, but for now i’ll stick with TouchID. Hopefully they’ll learn how to implement TouchID under the screen sooner then later…

Technically Craig Federighi stated they experimented with touch ID under the display, which they decided against, so how do we know that Apple will consider using this over Face ID in the future?

Your making no sense. You can use Apple Pay on the iPhone X, you don’t need an Apple Watch, but they are great.

A close friend and I have been commiserating for the last few weeks...

Such an unnecessary thread. Sell it and get an 8+ now or deal with it and wait for the next phones in September.

Ugh! I have been using iPhones since the original and I’ve loved every single one of them except this one. At this point I can’t even say that I like it.

The thing is, I don't actually believe you. Did your hands double in size back in 2014 when the 6 Plus came out. How is the X too small but the 1-5 worked fine? LOL

I agree, but then again my iPhone and Apple Watch combined cost less than an iPhone X. I have never been a fan of holding my phone up at a pay terminal though so prefer using my watch which is a lot more accurate as it’s not being fussy about a fingerprint.

No argument here... it’s just that, being left-handed, I wear my watch on my right wrist... so using my watch for ApplePay at a drive through is more inconvenient than I imagine FaceID would be.

That would be annoying I agree but you guys drive on the wrong side of the road and sit on the wrong side of the car too.

I've lost a little love for my X too. With the hype gone and roughly 8/9 months usage i can see clearly now that its not all what's it cracked up to be. And before you all come attacking, im sticking with the phone because at the time of purchase it was the best phone out, came with a lot of promise and I'm not looking to lose money on trying to sell it plus i had been waiting for years to upgrade from my iPhone 6. Skipping the 6s, 7 and 8 and wanted to stay with ios.

Things that annoy me about the X
  • Face ID can be very frustrating to use.(all the common negs have been mentioned)
  • Screen scratches really easily.
  • Portrait mode 'studio lighting' feature is shockingly trash.
  • Side button placement causing LOADS of unintentional screenshots
  • And this could be purely software related but i find it really buggy and laggy when trying to multitask sometimes.
I hope now with ios 12 on the horizon, things improve. One good thing i see is that swipe up to close app cards is now a welcome feature on the X.

I agree, Apples choice is average at the moment imo for 2018. You have the 4.7 too small, 8 plus good size screen but too big like a brick. And the pimped out X with the above issues and some.

I could sell my X and get a 8 with some change or 8 plus with added $$ new, or pick up second hand, but i lose $500aud on what i paid. Plenty of people do it as i proved it with my second x, was bought 2 days old for $579 below what they paid, have receipt too.
So what do you do. SE lol.

I dont see this year changing much if its just a bigger X and a bigger plus unless its in a 8 body.

We dont know. All i said that im hoping they will. ;)

No one says you cant use Apple Pay with iPX, I was referring to the comment i quoted that suggested to use Apple Watch instead of the X.

I have used Apple Pay at a drive thru, it doesn’t require a watch.

My wife hated her iPhone 6 for the entirety of her 2 year contract but sometimes people stick with something in the hope they get used to it.

I currently have an iPhone 8 Plus (through the iPhone Upgrade Program) and have to say, I have been 99% happy with it (its my first ever 'Plus' sized iPhone).

The 1% which I don't like is when it goes into a trouser/jeans pocket as its so big, I have to swivel it so that it sits on the outside of my leg (in the pocket) as opposed to on top of my thigh (in the pocket) when I sit down.

I have always wondered though if I would like the X better so it's definitely interesting reading through this thread....

The OP does make a few valid points, particularly around screen size for watching videos and the side button. I know screen size is based on diagonal measurement, but the the extra width on the plus model is very noticeable.

I switched back to my 8+ after about 6 months with the X. Here were my main reasons, which is my own personal opinion specific to my usage:

1) Screen Size (as OP mentioned) - I watch a lot of videos on my device, and it is my primary source of media consumption (with a toddler at home, TV is off limits for most hours of the day).
2) Battery - The OLED screen consumes a lot more power when being used continuously. While the results with the X weren't bad, they pale in comparison to the Plus.
3) Status Bar - This was the one thing that constantly bugged me, personally, when using the X. While I admit that it is a bit trivial, I like to be able to see the time and battery status at the top of whatever app I'm using.
4) Multitasking - I found this to not really work that well for me. Whenever I tried to switch apps by swiping the bottom of the screen, it would only work about half the time. I guess it is just muscle memory, but I am so familiar with the home button double press it is fluid for me.... again, just my opinion.

There are 2 things I do really miss from the X:

1) Face ID - I never had any problems with this in all my time using the phone. It was so fluid and natural from day 1.
2) Tap to Wake - Having already been used to this from my Apple Watch, this feature that was a nice touch. Being able to check the screen without having to press the side or home button, was surprisingly useful.

All this being said, I am really looking forward to the X+ coming out later this year. Issue numbers 1 & 2 are addressed by the phone itself. I am holding out hope that issue 3 will be solved in future software iterations (or possibly the phone itself with the extra screen real estate), and I have no doubt issue 4 will be fixed in software updates (or by finding out that I am just an idiot and am doing it wrong).

...if the iPhone X Plus is of a size which is bigger than the iPhone X but smaller than the iPhone 8 Plus - I AM SOLD!!!

It will be the same size as the plus. I mean the X is about the size of the 8 and the fact you don’t have enough of a size difference to really make a tweener between the 8 and plus imho

A close friend and I have been commiserating for the last few weeks. We both have had our phones for about half a year now I guess, and we both hate them. And it’s not just us, others we’ve talk to you can’t stand them as well.

The phone is too small. I am constantly hitting the side buttons during normal use and that never happened with my plus sized phones. I had to turn Siri off and that has saved me much grief, but I’m still hitting the on/off button in the middle of usage and turning the stupid thing off. Grrrrrr!

Face ID sucks for unlocking the phone, I’ll do I do quite like it in lieu of entering passwords in apps and on other sites where I am required to login, Such as this one. I much preferred unlocking the phone with my finger which I could do while the phone was laying flat on my desk. Now I have to pick it up and stare at the damn thing. Grrrrrr!

My friend says she has too many dropped calls but I never use my phone as a phone so that doesn’t happen to me.

Watching videos West better on my plus sized phones, and no matter how many times people say the screen is bigger it just isn’t. It’s a lie because in order to watch a video fullscreen you have to zoom in and then you lose some of the picture.

Switching between apps is not as easy as it used to be with a home button.

I’m sure I could name a few more but those are my main gripes.

The larger iPhone X phone that is coming is certain to alleviate some of these gripes but I honestly am going to have to think about whether I want to purchase that one or return to a Plus sized—-iPhone 9 Plus?

Ugh! I have been using iPhones since the original and I’ve loved every single one of them except this one. At this point I can’t even say that I like it.

Huge mistake.

Sorry for the typos, but you can blame Siri because she sucks ass as well.

1) How big are your hands? I have large hands (large size gloves) and the phone is just the right size.
2) I have no issues with Face ID and I never understood why people need to unlock the phone while it is laying flat. If you're using the phone... isn't it mostly in hand? Just pick it up and look at it....
3) You never use your $1,000 phone as a phone. Not sure what to make of this.
4) Switching between apps, do you know about the bar swiping to easily switch the apps? Hopefully you're not doing a bottom swipe up and using the card layout to switch apps?

And finally...

5) It might have been ideal to return the X and get a 8 Plus. All the gripes you're mentioning have been gripes for a lot of people since launch, so its nothing new.

The reality is.. Face ID isn't going away. It will only improve with time. I myself like my iPhone X very much. I have no complaints about it at all. Face ID works great, I never drop any calls (this has nothing to do with the phone anyway, your friend needs to change providers). The size of the phone is the sweet spot (for me). It's not too big and unwieldy like the Plus models and its not small, switching between apps is easy if you use the right gestures, etc.

I really don't get these threads and how they gain so much traction (especially this far after release).

TLDR: Sale it/return it and get a 8 Plus.

To be honest I’ve never been interested in a Plus as it’s just too big as a mobile phone for me. The X costs more than I am really willing to spend on a phone too so I’m only ever interested in the standard iPhones, especially now going forward.

At the end of the day all these iPhones essentially do exactly the same thing besides a few variances and it’s difficult to get excited about them any more. When manufacturers are redesigning features just to be operated differently then we need to realise the market has pretty much reached plateau.

I agree but the fact I prefer OLED outweighed my desire for the ecosystem of Apple I went with a Note 8. I use my phone for everything and prefer the OLED panel. That’s why I came back to iOS with the X.
