1) How big are your hands? I have large hands (large size gloves) and the phone is just the right size.
2) I have no issues with Face ID and I never understood why people need to unlock the phone while it is laying flat. If you're using the phone... isn't it mostly in hand? Just pick it up and look at it....
3) You never use your $1,000 phone as a phone. Not sure what to make of this.
4) Switching between apps, do you know about the bar swiping to easily switch the apps? Hopefully you're not doing a bottom swipe up and using the card layout to switch apps?

And finally...

5) It might have been ideal to return the X and get a 8 Plus. All the gripes you're mentioning have been gripes for a lot of people since launch, so its nothing new.

The reality is.. Face ID isn't going away. It will only improve with time. I myself like my iPhone X very much. I have no complaints about it at all. Face ID works great, I never drop any calls (this has nothing to do with the phone anyway, your friend needs to change providers). The size of the phone is the sweet spot (for me). It's not too big and unwieldy like the Plus models and its not small, switching between apps is easy if you use the right gestures, etc.

I really don't get these threads and how they gain so much traction (especially this far after release).

TLDR: Sale it/return it and get a 8 Plus.

Well tbh who uses their phone as a phone these days ? I at most use around 40 minutes per month and when I had an Android device I sent around 1,600 to 1,900 texts per month based off my Verizon app along with 40GB + of data per month.

Got the X two days ago. Wanted to hate it for some reason. Absolutely love it. Buttery smooth OS, amazing screen, FaceID works flawless, even with sunglasses AND my hat on. Didn't think twice about the 'notch' 5 mins into owning it.

At the end of the day all these iPhones essentially do exactly the same thing besides a few variances and it’s difficult to get excited about them any more. When manufacturers are redesigning features just to be operated differently then we need to realise the market has pretty much reached plateau.

I Don’t think the excitement has plateaued, I think the price point can be stifling for those who do want to upgrade. But I said it before, carriers are trying to make it easy as possible to persuade the consumer to upgrade through trade in incentives and promotions, while keeping the monthly cost low with no interest. But in general, some do become excited Over a new phone, which eventually wears off. But if there was one phone that’s extremely popular just for the sake of an annual release, it’s the iPhone.

I don’t see as much excitement for iPhone releases or in general
in comparison to a few years ago. Carriers also don’t try and make it easy to afford phones on contract anymore as contract prices have been on a steady increase since 2015 where I live. I get the impression American carriers are a lot more generous and accommodating towards keeping enthusiasm up.

Pretty much everyone I know uses an iPhone but the latest releases aren’t popular. That suggests to me more and more people are put off by the higher pricing Apple have adopted recently. I definitely see the trend where people are keeping iPhones longer than 2 years. Times have changed I think.

I agree but the fact I prefer OLED outweighed my desire for the ecosystem of Apple I went with a Note 8. I use my phone for everything and prefer the OLED panel. That’s why I came back to iOS with the X.
I think we all have favourite features on phones etc. Personally it doesn’t bother me if my phone is LCD or OLED. Price is the new selling point for me since the launch in 2017. It made me realise how much I was spending or willing to spend and I’m not alone there in my social circles.

OP: All of more reason why we don't want an iPhone X kind of smartphone. We want only the 7/8 series.

I guess my point was, there is a stigmatism with the iPhone, not just because it’s an annual release, but its the most popular phone in the world and contrary to what you want to believe, millions of people want to see what Apple has to offer every year and even though the popularity Wanes as all products do once its available after a while, it still has one the strongest followings, I think excitement still follows, just a matter if somebody chooses to upgrade. But I don’t think also every iPhone model has to appeal to the same person, clearly it depends on what someone values, how tech related they might be, what they can afford, etc.

There’s no doubt the iPhone is hugely popular. Certain people buy the new iPhones and I’m sure there are people like me who are interested in what Apple release even if we have no interest actually buying the product.

Me. It runs my business with free call no's connected. Who buys a $1579 or $1829aud phone for FB,insta, watsap.

Well considering I have sprint I actually use FaceTime audio then strict phone calling because Sprint has yet to roll out VoLTE for iPhones at least. Oh don’t get me wrong I still need a phone phone but I’m saying for quite a few People can live without it

And i never understood why i need to pickup the phone every single time from the table just to see notification, read messages and checking basic info when i can do so with a touch of a finger... and when im using the phone for phone calls (weird ah.. :D), mostly i'll use it with speaker (unless im in crowded places\surrounded with people) while its lying next to me...

For my personal usage i dont see any advantage using FaceID over TouchID.

...on my 8 Plus, I have always used the Assistive Touch feature within the Accessibility menu, which gives you a virtual Home Button plus many other shortcuts (I have Multitasking as one of them) so I would say that the 'issue' of the iPhone X not having a Home button, for me, is a non issue as I would probably just use the Assistive Touch feature again anyway....

For me I also use my iPhone flat on my desk at work a lot during the day. It’s next to my keyboard and I unlock it to use it with my finger without needing to pick it up. I would imagine it’s quite a common use case but then again those with FaceID can just use the passcode. It’s annoying but a workaround I suppose.

I just have FID off for unlock. Better on a desk than with a home button, just tap to see or tap swipe, easier than trying to get your finger in right spot for TID.

But i know you will argue its not or no security is the end of the world :) Before you do unless you have owned both and used regular don't bother.

Your method sounds equally easy to me.

Not sure why you are so snarky straight off the bat? Chill out.

Thought I would beat you to it, you are usually so anti X. Advice taken :)

I’m anti it’s price point at this stage but that’s subjective to me. In regards to features like FaceID I recognise it’s an alternative method for what I use and I’m not going to argue over fractions of a second like many here. It’s an iPhone at the end of the day and they are all good devices.

Yep....i swapped to an S7 Edge 2 years ago and have NO regrets. Just holding out for samsung S10 now as i want inscreen finger reading.

Well that is the thing, you sound like you wouldn't purchase a iPhone X and would go with a 8 or 8 Plus, a phone that you prefer. These misc. threads we all keep seeing lately, about how detrimental the X is, how frustrating they are, etc. Some folks are acting like it wasn't a choice, that they had to get the X and feel the need to complain about its shortcomings. No one forced people to buy the X is what I'm getting at.

Its good we still having few different models to chose from, and if i had to get new phone now (as of today), i would go with the 8 or even the 7 over the X, since the ideal phone for me still not available - SE size & weight phone, bezel-less screen with TouchID under the screen, and the latest parts as the flagship models.

Why a 7 or 8? The x is basically an 8 sized body . One reason I got an X after going back to an Note 8
