Yep, but it should still work as it's looking at my face.

Well as I said then it still works 99.99% of the time. I was alluding if you’re on your side really where I’ve had little issues but that’s because I needed to align the phone as it would be if I was looking it normally sitting up.

People just like to whine. OP knew the phone size so he/she can’t wack much about that.
For me and so many others, FaceID works flawlessly.
I’ve never accidentally hit any of the side buttons.
Never had the phone drop a call.

Do as Closingracer recommended. Sell ‘em and move on with your life.
:p
I just went from the 8 Plus to the X.

I've had Plus phones every year since the Plus models were released. While the X is smaller and I do prefer a larger phone, the OLED screen more than makes up for that compromise (to me). I have no issues with FaceID and I find ApplePay easier to use now.

I have one week to return this X and go back to my Plus, but that is not going to happen.

Yeah, I was on my back facing up. It wouldn't work most of the time.

Ran into the same issue when testing. If it was bright light and I was laying on the bed, Face ID almost always worked. If it was dim or dark the success rate was under 50%.

The Face ID technology doesn’t actually depend on light. You should try and set it up properly again and see if that makes any difference.

For those discussing Face ID above, the problem with laying down or on your side, is when your face is slightly altered when it’s relaxed, sometimes It can be problematic for Face ID tI unlock your iPhone. I can see this being improved over time, being that it’s a very common position to be in when using our phones when relaxed.

I had this problem, but then realised I was holding my phone too close to my face when laying down - try holding it a little further away when you unlock...
Worked for me.

Well try rescanning ? Idk my phone is 2 weeks old and have zero issues

I did that several times. I have a new X coming in today, so will see how it acts.

It was set up properly. The light makes a difference still.

Hmm, this could be it. I'll try to pay attention to that.

Did that during testing. Tried a couple of suggestions folks here recommended.
In low light and darkness the failure rate was significant.

I no longer have the X. It was a work test unit.

I have had my iPhone X since release day and I am not completely satisfied with it. I find that it was overpriced and I don't think the battery life lasted as long as my previous device. I will probably upgrade to the next largest iPhone when it comes out.

I Can’t change your perception being that it was overpriced, but as far as the battery life, I think there are plenty of options to mitigate some of those factors like low power mode, adjusting the brightness, disabling hands free hey Siri, ect. Also, check your battery usage and see what might be contribute to any type of drain.

I find the iPhone X battery life actually fairly substantial, but I’m also not a heavy user and I have my Settings tuned to conserve the battery.

You assume I didn't already do those things! My brightness is set to about 25%, hands free and hey siri are disabled, and aside from one weather app that I have in my widgets location services are either disabled or set to when I use the app. I can afford the price of the phone but still feel that it is overpriced.

I’m using my phone all day and my X lasts me way longer then my note 8. 5-7 hours of screen on time is good enough for me

Battery life is always the one the toughest measures, but the iPhone X has been by far the best experience in terms of iPhone battery management from my previous uses with other iPhone models.

For me it’s better then the iPhone 6 Plus for me. People loved the older Note phones because of the bigger battery and the pixel ones as well but for me battery life has always been bad for me. I was lucky to get 3 hours of screen on time with any android device compared to the 5-7 with various iPhones ( 6 plus , 7,x) and this is comparing almost Apple to apples ( no pun intended) . Both having WiFi , Bluetooth and LTE on at all times and brightness around 50-70% depending on needed.

Has anyone had issues getting the apps to load on a new restore from icloud? They get stuck and won't load any more after 3/4 done with them. I mean 70% of the apps did finish, but a ton didn't.

Thanks for all your replies, even those of you who unkindly or condescendingly judged or disagreed (not that all of you did it in that way, but a few). I respect your opinions even if you don’t respect mine. Several offered helpful suggestions or disagreed without being douchebags and that prompted further discussion amongst everyone, so yay for that.

I actually did not know that you could switch apps using the bar so I am trying to get used to that. And I bought one of those phone holders someone recommended so that the phone isn’t laying flat on my desk—I hate it, LOL. It works better for Face ID, yes, but I should have ordered a more expensive one that charges as the same time. I’m so used to laying it flat on my Qi wireless disc charger that now when I grab it to head to a meeting or wherever I end up yanking the holder and the cord along with it so it’s just replaced one annoyance with another. Grrrrrr. Yes, I can be an idiot.

To those who keep suggesting I sell it: I’m in the Apple upgrade program (first time for that). If I sell it doesn’t that mean I can’t upgrade when it’s time? Aren’t I expected to return THIS exact phone? Should I have returned it within the allowable window? Probably, but I didn’t. Life is busy and I didn’t. So now I’m stuck as far as I know. Enlighten me please if I am not.

And to those suggesting I should have known about all my gripes soon after purchasing...why would you assume I didn’t? Maybe they just didn’t bother me as much until the thousandth time. I believe I already explained (either in my first or in my second post) that this thread was started because my friend and I started to notice others around us recently sharing the same gripes and I wanted to see if it was the same in this community, that people are being more vocal about what they don’t like about the X now than when it was still new.

I knew eventually more forum members would agree with some of my gripes (Face ID, the button placement, screen size) and even though we are outnumbered it doesn’t negate or cancel our impressions nor change them.

I hate this phone a little bit less now—a very little bit less. But we are still in the “hate” area of the spectrum unfortunately.

If I could go back in time and decide between this and the 8+, knowing what I know now, I DEFINITELY would not choose the X.

Still, I’m optimistic that an X+ will make me love my phone again. Size matters. Face ID should be better. The button should be higher. The keyboard will be wider. A few little things when taken together can have a huge impact.

We’ll see. I’ll definitely give it more thought next time. Cheers everyone!

Apple is a brand that attracts certain users who will fiercely defend any form of dislike, criticism etc whether it is constructive or honest from a persons perspective or not. I can’t think of another brand on the planet that has that sort of allegiance? I think you’ve been shown a perfect example of that here.

I’m an iPhone user and enjoy using their products but I’m not immune to their flaws and like to think my opinion is valid due to how much money I’ve spent over the years. It’s just not always best to air frustration on certain threads unless you make posts fluffy and sneak in the concerns as not to appear like you’re a hater. ;)

@CarboysDesire very gracious response and return to your thread. I actually agree with some of your points, although I am not a person who upgrades every year I am happy with my 7 plus I got just over a year ago - and I think I may keep this even longer changing the battery if necessary - and not that I am leery - not even mainly - about some of the new features but also cause I want to get off the too frequent upgrade train. I am sure things like Face ID will be refined and even better by the time I upgrade.

If you hate the iPhone X just sell it and try Android. You don't need a case to unlock your screen. On Android you could have an fingerprintscanner under the screen without that stupid 3D scan hassle. It's faster and more secure.
