Forgive a rather silly question.
But I am thinking of buying for them for the first time,
for my forthcoming new mbp 16'.

If I ever decided to remove the skin,
does it leaves any kind of adhesive on mbp?
Is it like it never was there?

Also another question:
How thick and protective these skins are? I mean, I can imagine that there is protection from scratches. But is it similar to protection like a hard shell?

They won't leave any adhesive. They can be a little bit of a pain to remove, but once they come off it will be like it was never there.

No its not like a hard shell. It won't protect you from drops but will definitely protect your MacBook from scratches.

Skins for the new 14” & 16” M1 MacBook Pro’s are now available for pre-order. I’m curious. Does the trackpad cover impede functionality at all? I think I’d rather use the skins instead of a case this time. And a sleeve for travel. Thanks ahead of time!
I just wish they had a plain, transparent, matte finish skin like Best Skins Ever had. I want palm rest protection (apparently my hand sweat is acidic, as it eats away at the aluminum), but I'm not looking for something loudly decorative, I just want something that doesn't change the appearance of the computer much.

I agree with you, a clear matte skin would be awesome. I’ve always used dBrand and have gone with their Metal Titanium. It’s enough to have grip but isn’t to showy(?). Anyway, I can’t recommend them enough as they have superior products.

Based on the photos and one YouTube vid, the Metal Titanium looks the best on the palm rest. It appears to match the color pretty closely, which is important to me cos of the exposed speaker grill. I'm pretty much decided on the Metal Titanium for the palm rest, and the Matt Black for the TouchPad. As far as the top and bottom I lean to either the Black Dragon or the HyperBlack Titanium. On my 17" MacBook Pro, I used a clear hard case, but I think the skin is a much cleaner design. Traps little if any heat. And for transport, possibly a padded sleeve.

Many suggest the 16" is too bulky. In fact, it has the same dimensions as an earlier 15"! I LOVED my 17"! Traveled to work with it, and many 2 hour flights to Florida and back. I remember seeing people with 13" laptops and thought how uncomfortable that looked! I have been using my Wife's M1 Air for a bit. Yes, I've been forced to get used to it. Ironically, if the original 13" M1 MacBook Pro came with the same ports as the M1 Mini, I'd happily have acquired it, and continued to use it now. Can you imagine? A 13" M1 MacBook Pro with two TB4 ports, two USB-A ports, an HDMI, headphone and an Ethernet? PLUS a separate power supply port?

As it is, I continue to wait for the 16". It would be great if DBrand had more pics. I'm curious as to how the top will look, since the design is so different. Also, the MacBook Pro etching on the bottom; I wonder how THAT will wind up looking?

The Metal Titanium has been my go-to for years.

Do you typically use a skin for the trackpad? I don’t think it would reduce the sensitivity but the skins are textured. Will you be able to tolerate that? I’ve tried it on the touchpad and couldn’t stand it. The tips of my fingers are too sensitive and after repeated use my fingers actually hurt. It was not a pleasant sensation.

I’ve done a zoom on the black dragon for you which shows the design a little better. When you select the skin option that you want for the cover, the picture to the left will show what it looks like.

Thanks! Yes, my thinking on the trackpad is that it might need a bit of protection. Matt Black seems to have the least bit of texture. The touch of the trackpad is SO smooth, I could handle a bit of matt texture I think.

I have the same finish on my Razer Blade 15 Advanced, and have a top and bottom cover coming for the 14". I wonder if anyone has installed these the same way you install decals with a thing soapy water film to get it perfectly lined up, and squeegee it down for final fitment.

DBrand is a 3M vinyl adhesive skin with a relative thickness but it doesn’t add bulk, weight or leave a residue when removed.

Still a B*tch to get aligned correctly.
I was about to ask on here if anybody had tips how to do it on a 16" laptop. I'm a big fan of their skins, if only to make your laptop stand out a bit given the boring colours, but last time I tried a skin on a 16" MBP I could not get the thing to align properly no matter what I did.

I've not had any problems with skins for smaller Macs, although I wonder if this gen will be easier due to the more squared-off shape.

LOL! If you roll the backing in small sections and take your time, the skin can be aligned properly. Also, if you find that a section that you are applying doesn't lay right, if you carefully lift it up, you can reposition.

I will typically peel and roll the skin back until I get to the logo cutout > cut off the extra backing while keeping the adhesive side folded back over the still attached backing. I will then re-apply the backing to just above the logo cut out > then align the skin logo to the cover logo > then slowly peel the backing from the logo out while smoothing as I go along.

Hope this makes sense. I do believe that dBrand has videos on how to apply if my work-around explanation doesn't work.

Those of you ordering a piece for the trackpad should know that it significantly changes the feel of it. It loses its smooth feel and feels a little like dragging your fingers over very light grit sandpaper. I love their skins but can't stand them on the trackpad.

I applied the black matrix skin on my 14", same as I had on my 13" and for grippiness it's awesome. I like the color contrast as well. Dbrand makes a quality product.

Space Grey !6" M1Pro, replacement coming for a DOA delivered unit on 11/1. To arrive Dec 8 - Dec 15.
The Palmrest will be Titanium. It seems to match the speaker grills almost perfectly. I find the finger grime a bit unsightly, so I will use a Matt Black on the trackpad. Only $5, so I can test the texture first to see if it's offensive at all. But the top and bottom? I like the HyperBlack Titanium. I also like the Black Dragon. But the HyperBlack Titanium seems a bit too prism-like in the way it throws off light. Not many real world pics either. The Black Dragon looks great as well.

Years ago, I was watching the MI Movie, where they pull a diamond ripoff in the high rise Dubai building. Tom C gets to show off his stunt-man skills. But one of the IMF uses a Mac Laptop with a carbon fibre body. COOL!!! But it wasn't til recently that I discovered it was these skins. As cool as the carbon looks, I think the 16" might be a bit large to pull it off. PLUS, is it overdone at this point? I had a clear hardcase for my 17" MacBook Pro for years, but I am SOLD on the idea of skins. I'll get a padded sleeve for travel, which will go into a shoulder bag for flights...

HyperBlack Titanium or Black Dragon top and bottom .... Hmmmmm

Great choice! Mine just arrived today, so I'll get my 16" wrapped sometime tonight. I love the Metal Titanium.

Edited: Space Gray
It DOES look good! Just the top and bottom, or the palm rest too? I was so enamored with the carbon black MacBook in the MI movie, that I am def gravitating to a black SOMETHING, LOL. But yes, the real world grey Titanium pics I've seen are incredible!
