After seeing the iPhone X just can't wait to see how gorgeous would it be on an iPad with that kind of screen estate. Just can't wait to see a iPhone X kind of an iPad ! Apple take my money give me the product !!

I am in a ridiculously precarious spot – – I have a new MacBook Pro 12.9 – – I have until Wednesday to return it. I’m afraid to touch it, so that it remains perfect, so that I can upgrade. That is if I want to at all. It’s pretty amazing as is, so I can’t even imagine what the next level is going to be. I love my iPhone X.

This is exactly what I think. With the new "education-focused" iPad with Apple pencil support and the current iPad Pro, Apple simply dominates the tablet market at this point. The other tablet makers aren't able to hold a candle to Apple right now. Moreover, it seems to me that Samsung and co. have simply given up the tablet market. I don't think we'll see new iPads till 2019.
They’re competing against themselves. Not sure if I posted the links here or in the other thread but users, tech reviewers, bloggers you name it ... are now saying that the 329 iPad with pencil is all you need. There’s strong arguments (price for one) that will make people choose the cheap version over an iPad Pro. Human nature wants something new and shiny and a redesigned IPP , edge to edge, improved pencil and better Smart Keyboard lays out a reason to splurge.

I don’t see Apple simply sitting around leaving that much money on the table if a large majority of iPad buyers are now buying the basic student edition over the more expensive (add smart accessories too) IPP.

They’re also positioning the top end models as laptop replacements. Fine, there’s an argument to be made that instead of an IPP people will buy a MB/MBP instead but that line has serious issues at the moment and typically, someone who wants an IPP wants a touch experience not a traditional clamshell.

Let’s see what happens. Personally I can’t even imagine an update or redesign on hold until 2019. It effectively stalls the 10.3/12.9 IPP line for 9 months.

Definitely a gamble. If you’re lucky they announce on Monday with a shipping date later in the year. If not, you’re playing the same guessing game we all are and will have to either go with your gut or roll the dice. How about returning the one you have and picking up a used gen 1? That’ll tide you over even upto March 19 worst case scenario and the resale hit won’t be that bad.

I even knew this event was coming but yet I still bought it because it was just so damned beautiful to look into the screen!
Hold on till Monday. If nothings announced log off MR and enjoy your new 12.9. It’ll be just as beautiful even if a new one comes out. You can upgrade after a year once all of us early adopters (beta testers ) have sorted out the kinks for you. more and more it’s getting a bit of a crapshoot with 1st gen Apple products. Seems like it takes them 6 months of production to iron out manufacturing issues.

iPhone X already beta tested FaceID. Honestly its underwhelming for me if that's the only difference. I want a screen bigger than 12.9. FaceID is just a method to unlock the screen. Once unlocked there is nothing more it can add to. ProMotion for instance makes everything look buttery smooth. I want something which changes the experience like that.

Honestly though Apple can easily afford to wait it out as the tablet market is a complete monopoly for them at this point. Google today removed the Tablet section from Android's main website which means they have pulled the plug on tablet support. Microsoft's Surface is still stuck on an older processor. Apple can easily kick back and watch the money roll in at this point. Its just like with the GPU market where NVIDIA has total control which has resulted in the Pascal line not being refreshed in nearly 2 years. Intel also kept all their future lineup on hold till AMD came out with Ryzen. Why hurry when the existing is good enough?

This FaceID iPad will be even more expensive than the current Pros so its not going to solve the problem of people buying the base iPad. People are not used to paying that much for tablets. There is a reason Apple cut the base iPad prices when iPad sales were stagnating. If it crosses $900-1000 for the base model its fishing in really good 2-in-1 territory.

It wont look as good because its still LCD while iPhone X is OLED.

Dedicated Android tablets, yes. Google seems to be trying a different approach by adding Android app support to Chrome OS, though. Granted, I believe the only announced product thus far is more competition for the basic iPad rather than the Pro line.

I'm going to assume you meant iPad Pro 12.9" - for a while I was wondering what MacBook Pro is 12.9" and maybe you meant 13".

What's even more surprising is how many people seemed to gloss over the typo.
Noticed it. Figured out what he meant by the post context. Decided not to bother :)

I’m officially giving up on the guessing . Going to be logging off MR for the weekend and check the front page Monday afternoon. All will be clear. Or not. Either way I think I’ll wait for the new one whenever it comes out. Knowing me it’ll just piss me off to have an “old design” when there’s a new shiny toy to be had. I’ll end up buying, selling , losing money etc so ... I’ll make do with my current setup and transition to the IPP when it’s released. Have a good weekend guys. Nice discussion

Why would Apple release a non pro 10.5 when they just released 9.7"? It's going to be a mistake.

Doesn’t make sense but keep the source in mind before everyone gets worked up. It’s a CASE listing on a bestbuy site. Simple error more than likely.

If you want to go down that rabbit hole, the only way this makes sense is if the new ipad X gets the pro branding. Current bezeled 10.3 becomes non pro.

I don’t buy it. Typo is the smart explanation.

Wait a sec ! What ? You have a MacBook Pro 12.9" ? which product is that ?? Or you meant rMBP 13" ? Getting confused when you say 12.9" when that product come out ?

I've said as much in other threads, I think apple is going to focus on the Mac this year, it seems the MBP is getting some negative press of late and apple may want to counter that. Then there's the fact that they promised a new Mac Pro and people are still waiting

Totally agree. Louis Rossmann says he will delete his YouTube Apple-bashing channel if they address the keyboard issue in the way he suggests. Also, I really hope we’ll get a Mac Mini refresh and a MB Air (highly doubt we’ll get a new Air though but still hope they do for more budget-friendly prices)

I double concur with your concurement. But the real question is does anybody else concur?

I triple chilli-concur-nee

I find it weird that so many people keep saying “it’s a developer’s conference so it’s only going to be software.” A huge percentage of developers use macs and what better way to appease the pro market than using the professional keynote to announce updated/new products?

I reckon we’ll just get updated specs but I’m really hoping we hear or see something on the new Mac Pro

I hope so as well but doubt it

Folks ! I am getting a strong, strong feeling it is going to be a strictly, strictly Software only Apple event ! Meh !!

People this Man ! Ming Chi Kuo is back like a 007 James Bond that too with a vengeance ! I hope we now get to listen and read some rumors about the iPad Pro for 2018 aswell.

He is sounding more and more precise and with a confident belief like for e.g. He is saying the iPhone X for 2018 will be announced in September to go on sale in September only that is pretty emphatic !!
