I'm not 100% sure why people dislike the charging from the iPad so much. Why? You don't have to use it, you can use a cable. It's a backup method if the battery goes flat. Talking about whining about something that is a non-issue.

This is SO wrong as to be laughable. The iPads did not get 3D Tough due to the weight it would have added to the tablets. That's all. It's no ploy. It's not there simply because it would add too much weight and thickness to the tablet. Everyone here seems to think Apple does everything just to screw their customers. Every time I see a post about this, I want to scream.

Just a little quick math shows adding 3D Touch to the iPad Pro would take the weight from 723 grams to over 770 grams atleast. When they figure out how to do 3D Touch without the weight gain, that is when you will see it in iPads..
On MR forums several users seem to think Apple like to upset their customers on purpose .....

Unless you're Microsoft and put 256 GB with 8GB ram on a tablet that's only slightly bigger than the air 2 ( yes I owned them both).

Apple definitely holds things back.

Hence why the pro gets the old Touch ID and 32 GB ram..

There's simply no excuse.
A Surface Pro is SLIGHTLY bigger than the iPad Air 2 ??? o_O

Staffpad - good luck finding an iOS example that even competes with it. (Hint - there isn't).

Drawboard PDF - one of the best PDF/markup apps I've ever used. Much better than iAnnotate and PDF Expert. That annoying thing with PDF Expert where you have to press the pencil button to draw - doesn't exist on the Surface with Drawboard. You just start writing at any time - like it's a real pen!

OneNote - this is finally on equal footing with the W10 version, since Apple caved and added a stylus. You know what though? I've used this for over the past year......

Webbrowsers - iOS safari vs Edge = edge wins..

What else is there?

RSS Readers - W10 has good ones.
Reddit client - just use the website.
Facebook - just use the website.

The only game I played was Sudoku - and guess what?

The W10 version emulates the paper/pencil experience. You use the pen, as if you're playing from an actual book. Same thing with crosswords - you use the pen.

The state of those on iOS right now for the iPad Pro - pencil support isn't implemented like it is on the Surface. It is just a matter of time though - but it is another example.

Lol, in which parallel dimension Edge is better than Safari ?

This place loves making mountains out of molehills. Even if you do use that method, you can get a LOT of usage out of just a few minutes of charge time, even if you don't get it up to full charge.

In his opinion, it is. You clearly dont agree. Thats absolutely fine. There is No "parallel dimensions" at play, anywhere with regard to a browser preference. #perspective ;)

In my experience, it takes about 20 minutes to fully charge the pencil with my iPad once I get the 5% remaining popup.

I Agree, Apple dont purposeful upset customers for the sake of it.
However i think they "Need to" upset customers in order to keep offering extra gravy from base models and up..

They have already figured how to add 3D touch imo and will be on the next pro version, for sure, but they purposefully (imo) held it back on the base pro (V1) so they have a worthy, significant & "Tempting" upgrade to V2 pro and possibly air3

TBF though, apple are certainly not alone here as it is a sales/marketing strategy (bait & switch) employed by industry the world over

Everyone half competent in industrial marketing could tell you that's absolutely false. Companies release technology as soon as they think it's ready for mass production.
They want to keep customers happy and loyal, and to anticipate other companies.....
If technology is not released, is because of issues or yield consideration....

Yep, which is why they have 32GB as the base model on their "pro" iPad..

+1.

I do wonder if kids of the future will think/feel otherwise if the stylus on glass thing is their earliest memories of doodling...Can you imagine if paper and pencil felt weird to them

I think people are over selling this--i really had no adjustment time to working on tablets--I loved the different tools available, layers, etc. Its really great that digital sketching is so much more available--enjoy!

I agree. Digital sketching is fast becoming more than "just a thing" And its welcome. You cant fight progress.

I personally hope i am dead and long gone before it feels more natural, more primitive to reach for a tablet and digital pen as oposed to a biro and stray piece of paper..

I'm just an old fashioned git though :)

that's totally unrelated with "new technology"....
I'm not happy about 16 Gb as a base for iPhone / iPad and 32 Gb as a base for the iPad Pro too.
It should be 32 Gb and 64 Gb respectively ....

Gonzo, I will revisit when it is cheaper and also waiting on what the Air 3 brings to the table (and it will not be $799). :)

It is a clear example of Apple holding back though..
No need to keep pressing the point because it's naive to think that companies don't hold back technologies. The most successful companies have comprehensive multi-year plans with the goals of maximizing competitiveness, customer satisfaction, profits, and longevity.

Managing customer satisfaction involves providing enough value-add to the customers without squandering profit opportunities.

Of course it is. Apple have been/are in it for the long haul and have strategic release down to a tee and is just plain gullible to think otherwise.

Imo, Reputation, Build Quality and IOS are apples USPs...But specs (until recently?) can see them trailing behind competitors.
Brand Leaders they are, for sure, however with regard to specification they are only just "catching up"

The pro is an awesome ipad, no doubt. As is my air2. But my 2 year old Air1 has an unforgivable browsing experience with constant page reloads & poor tab managment due to the (I suspect) onboard 1GB ram.

Such a beautifully engineered device let down by the "holding back" of an extra Gig of ram...(Other manufacurers were 'at this time' delivering on 3GB)

They must have tested the browser experience, they must have known it struggled? Yet still released it to mass market. Forgive me for struggling with this decision.
But hey, if it aint broke...

No - Not releasing Touch ID 2 on the iPad pro is...

Touch ID 2 probably wasn't ready by the time the production specs for the iPad Pro had to be finalized. Or maybe production yield for Touch ID 2 wasn't enough to supply both iPad Pro and the iPhone. Maybe adding Touch ID 2 increases the cost of the iPP to the point where Apple would either have to raise the price or accept too low of a profit margin.

I mean, really, it's not like holding back Touch ID 2 will give people much incentive to upgrade next year. If the iPP 2 was released next year and the only difference from this year's model was that it had Touch ID 2, would you upgrade? I wouldn't. Conversely, how many people would refrain from buying the iPP this year because it doesn't have Touch ID 2? There isn't a strategic reason for Apple to hold it back. It has to be a design/production/cost issue.
