I am dying to get my hands on portrait mode for my 7+ - is this beta stable enough for daily use? or is it riddled with bugs?

I normally don't advise beta on daily drivers but to be fair. This beta is actually better than the current stable release. So I guess you're not taking a big risk installing it.

Still have the keyboard issue in safari only.
App animation lag is gone, but there is a significant delay from app to home screen now when unlocking and an app is opened in foreground already, nearly 2-3 seconds of lag. I was quite surprised.

Also, keyboard sounds are still muted... when you plug the phone in it resumes normal volume but only for a short time after the charging notification sound.

Battery life seems to fluctuate more in this beta, sometimes even gain multiple percentage points. Perhaps they are ironing out some things in the algorithm still.

In all, no show stopping bugs this release but 5 reports open so far.

Sounds are still lower than 10.0.2 for me.

Animations seem MUCH faster after a restart. Still some weird stuff going on with the background, but at least it's faster.

THIS! Exactly this. This was present from the beginning with my iPhone 7 Plus (10.0.2 and 10.1 beta). While the animations have been sped up, this is still present on iPhone 7 Plus.

I've been reading about the iPhone 7 animations for a while now and I haven't seen anyone say this yet:

Laggy animations just bug me also so it was the first thing I noticed with the new phone.
When you press the home button on the iPhone 7, the response time between you pressing the button and the animation beginning is almost instantaneous. This was never the case before and actually makes the iPhone 7 faster to use than the 6s.
Pressing the home button on the 6s will have a different response. The OS waits for a second click to see which animation it should load - the home screen or the multitasking screen.
The 7 responds instantly and if it detects a second press in time (a double click), the animation is interrupted and the app switcher animation is called up.
So TLDR: the animation is deliberately slow at the start in order to allow time for the animation to change and respond to a double click rather than a single press.
I could be wrong, this is just how it seems to me. Apple want the iPhone 7 animation to happen instantly so people know that they've successfully registered a click of the home button. Any waiting time between you clicking and something happening could have potentially caused people be annoyed with the new home button because if there were ever times where the haptic feedback was not quite obvious enough or a user couldn't feel it, (like when the phone is laying flat on a desk), it would be annoying to wait as long as the iPhone 6s to see if you had indeed registered a click of the home button.

The Safari keyboard bug will be the death of me. I have 5 open reports for it, from 5 different builds.

Anyone use Tweetbot on an iPhone 7+? Scrolling the timeline is horribly jerky. It gets to the point that I don't want to use that app.

It's fine on an iPhone 6 which is two years older.

This was on both iOS 10.0.2 and 10.1b2.

Starting to regret buying this phone.

The animation is no different at all. I don't get where people are saying it's better. It's exactly the same.
Maybe you have a defective device? The general consensus is that 10.1B2 has better animations. People aren't just going to claim that if its not true.

was that the case with 10.1b1 as well?

also now that Public Beta 2 is out, and I'm on Public Beta 1, should I leap to the newest with arms wide open for people who have had a day or so to play with dev beta2, which is same build#?

Yeah, 10.1b1 also. I tweeted at the developer and he said they were looking into it but I doubt it's an app bug since the 6 isn't affected.

I don't think it's a device related issue.
Eventually try to reinstall the app.

Yup. I'm not imagining it – I went straight from 10.0.2 to 10.1B2 (skipped B1) and the difference was immediately noticeable.

I've actually stated this on page 5.

If anyone wants a technical stand point of view on it-

The reason being for the animation stutter is springboard has to make a decision based on
a software button that can be pressed any time. Without a physical button to press and notify springboard
your intention is actually to close the app or visit the springboard with hardware it can only pause and
wait for further input until a few milliseconds pass it can proceed. The animation isn't the problem- it's
most likely the logic behind it.

Experiencing no service issue with this beta. Never had this before with beta 1 and 10.0.2

I went from 10.0.2 straight to 10.1 B2 and the animations are exactly the same. Maybe something was wrong with your 10.0.2 install?

I set up as new when I got my iPhone 7 Plus.

I'll record a video later and show you the difference between 10.1 b2 and 10.0.2.

The problem with the video you posted comparing 9.3.5 and 10.0.2 was the devices are not side by side. Slowing down the video to show the different animation does not show us the speed in comparison side by side. Both home buttons being pressed at the same time. When I did a side by side comparison of a 6sPlus and 7Plus both running iOS 10.0.2, the 7Plus was faster. I no longer have the 6sPlus otherwise I would definitely post a side by side comparison, because the difference was noticeable (in favor of the 7).
