I highly doubt this "Theater mode" in iOS 10.3 is a true dark mode for the iPhone. Just because of the popcorn icon LOL. Why would Apple encourage people to use their phones in a movie theater ? That's one of the rudest and most disrespectful thing a person can do, is bring out their phone at the movies. Your phone should be left behind in your car or at least turned off and in your coat pocket while at the movies. There's zero excuse to have your phone out while at the show.

So don't be too bummed when there isn't a dark mode in iOS 10.3

Because Apple people NEVER tell. Leaks come from suppliers.
You talk about real leaks like for actual products. Maybe the devs have different NDAs or whatsoever. I don't think an Apple iOS developer would post this kind of stuff if it would get him fired. And you can look at his Instagram account again. It doesn't look like fake to me.
Only other explanation is that he is just messing with us so it's also not a leak.

I agree for movies, but in a 'real' threatre (with actors) a theatre mode would make totally sense. everbody wants to to take pictures from the stage and the actors.

Right. So the answer is either he is not really an Apple Developer or he's pranking. My money is on the former. Apple people just don't identify themselves on social media (unless its Tim or Phil). There's a reason for that. I had an Apple regional retail manager living 3 doors down from me. He wouldn't discuss anything about anything. That's the corporate culture. So, what you saw may not be fake, but I would be willing to bet my lunch money that he's not really an Apple employee.

Unless Apple is feeling the heat from Android offerings now ? Samsung Galaxy line has their great theme collection and lots of dark mode themes

And a dev from Apple who used darkmode with a hashtag on one of the picture
Could you link to the direct evidence which proves he's an Apple dev? I had a brief look over his instagram photos and nothing was obvious there. I'm not saying he isn't, just that I haven't seen any evidence yet.

That's not evidence he works for Apple. That's easy to mock up. Again, not saying he did. But people keep saying he's an Apple employee as if they've seen incontrovertible evidence. Surely there is something else I'm missing, as that alone is far from enough evidence.

Also, he has a picture of him sitting across from Tim Cook: https://www.instagram.com/p/BDMfaPEjirs/
Ok there we go! That's more like it. Thanks :)

He is confirmed an Apple Internal Developer.
FYI, for future reference, just you stating that is far from enough evidence. It won't convince anyone who isn't already convinced :)

Just look at his biography on Instagram.

Yes by a random guy on twitter not even verified its a rumour

I agree. We'll see tomorrow if this is true or not, but I highly doubt this "Theater mode" is what people are expecting.

If it truly is a dark mode theme for the OS, that would be HUGE news, and something Apple would have most likely included in iOS 10 last year, not a feature they add in later on in some point release now. I am very skeptical

People were saying similar things about Night Shift and iOS 9.3 last year as well.
