But you are not going to convince me Apple has conspired to slow devices down for the only reason to increase sales.

You cant disprove planned obsolescence because the argument you are using to dismiss the YouTube videos applies to your own evidence (benchmarks) in spades as they both can be manipulated and one of them can be manipulated by the company itself. We are at an impasse. There is absolutely no way for you to convince me planned obsolescence does not exist unless you can explain why my iPad Mini was wrecked my Apple on iOS 9 and why my iPhone 6 runs at half speed on iOS 11.

In the meantime, these threads will continue to pop up after every iOS release until Apple fixes the issue once and for all.

I don’t have to disprove it, it’s already been disproved by benchmarks and Apple management categorically stating it’s not true. It’s on you if you don’t believe it. But the key is you can’t prove it with anything factual and scientific, especially given my 5s was faster on iOS 9 than iOS 8.

In the meantime as these threads pop-up, we (the truth about planned obsolescence crowd) will have to shut them down.

Who can lie and have lied and done shady stuff before.

I am applying the same reasons you are applying to the benchmarks so you cant prove planned obsolescence does not eixst either.

As can the YT videos, so all evidence is out.

Except Apple has much to lose by lying, so I’m gonna call b.s. on this. You don’t want to believe them it’s on you. So yeah, I believe them.

Since we don’t trust any evidence as it all can be manipulated, the only thing left is apple's testimony. Game, set, match. :)

But since Apple has been known to hide stuff from customers and lie, even that is worthless. So you can't disprove it either. Game over :)

What do they have to lose? They are in this for the money and lying is not gonna harm them until they are caught. Key word- Caught

I still believe Apple because it’s a public company and under scrutiny. It’s on you not believing them.

Then why hide Touch Disease?
Why hide Throttlegate?

I do not believe the perpetrator of the activity. Is there a third party investigation?

Again i7guy what you believe is not going to cut it. Do you have any concrete proof that planned obsolescence does not exist. Just like you don't trust third party YouTube videos, I don't trust Apple as asking them whether planned obsolescence exists is tantamount to asking an accused whether he has committed a crime. The answer should be obvious.

DeviceA was released with OS1. DeviceB with OS2. OS2 has more software features than OS1. It also uses hardware in DevoceB not present in DeviceA. So code has to be added to determine what device OS2 is running on. More code is also executed because more features.

DeviceA can't run OS2 as well as it did OS1 or as well as DeviceB runs it. That's just the nature of hardware and software. If you think that's planned obsolescence, then you are wrong.

DeviceA not being able to run OS2 as well as it did OS1 is not planned obsolescence. Constant software nags to upgrade requiring the installation of a beta profile to silence the prompts, , forcing DeviceA to run the slower OS2 in order to receive security fixes and the latest apps, stop signing OS1 after just a week or so, forcing DeviceA to run OS2 in order to receive any kind of support or just plain deny a simple battery replacement is planned obsolescence.

There was no touch diseases or throttlegate, never heard of them. (Did hear of antennagate, though)

By the company lying they have a lot to lose.

Okay, to take a page from your book, what you believe won’t cut it either. Do you have any proof that Apple has a conspiracy of planned obsolescence to maliciously slow down devices to increase sales? This is what we are waiting for. Not disproving the notion while simultaneously not proving it either is where we are at now.

You not trusting Apple is on you, I trust them.

It's not. It's a company making a business decision to not extend resources supporting older versions of the OS. They are not alone. Heck, I know of one very large company that mandates company issued iPhones be updated to the latest iOS within 30 days of release.

For most people, iPhones have a lifespan of 2 years or less. Those phones can run N+1 and N+2. It does get dicey after that, but then those devices are few and far between.

Its funny how quickly people forget as technology gets ever faster and software becomes more refined, most apps have doubled/tripled in size since inception, the hardware from two years ago, isn't going to be that stellar. Period, the end. Everyone forget that?

If you're so unhappy and think there is a conspiracy, move to another platform.

Then don't support them. I don't care. Don't use resources. Just let me restore to the same version I'm in. Let me downgrade. Offer service without forcing me to update. Leave the OS as-is. Stop the annoying prompts.
Let me decide if I want to deal with security implications. With lack of app compatibility. With lack of features.

Know that’s your wish list, but at the moment that is all that it is.

Proof that Apple, in a way, forces people to update. Mainly with the restore issue. I have to restore? Oh, right... To iOS 11.

There is no game here. We have all put forth our respective arguments, and it’s now up to the individual reader to decide what they want to think or believe. You can continue keeping your iOS devices on the original OS they shipped with, I will continue to update them on day 1. And life goes on.

Fair. And then you start complaining if there is a security issue, or the latest Candy Crush can't be downloaded.

Apple is damned if they do, damned if they don't. So they keep updating the phones until they physically can't handle the new code.

I do not believe in allowing a phone to run an OS it can’t handle. The Core 2 Duo from 2010 will never run today’s software smoothly so forcing it to, is stupidity.

I am okay with average perormance but it’s below average. Basic apps takes ages and ages to load on an iPhone 6. The keyboard has input delay. Safari is a complete dog on it.

If Google and Microsoft can support multiple versions of their operating system with security fixes, Apple can as well. Allow downgrades and support iOS older versions.

The thing is Tim Cool loves those flashy marketing charts at the keynote which is why Apple doesn’t do it.

The reality is that fragmentation can actually be a good thing because each device runs the OS it is best suited for. If I try to run Android P on a Nexus 6P it’s no going to run well which is why Google allows a downgrade option.

It’s funny how the solution was posted on Page 5 or so and people still ignore it and say Apple is in a Catch-22. Google and Microsoft solved this issue ages ago.

Do you want me to post the court documents of aTouch Disease or Apple’s apology letter to customers on throttlegate?

By the company lying they have a lot to lose.
It ain’t cheating until you get caught and Apple knows this. In the unlikely event they get caught, write an apology letter, toss in a few freebies and get on with business. Worked for Samsung, NVIDIA and Apple themselves.

You not trusting Apple is on you, I trust them.

Let’s summarise. I posted the videos as my evidence of planned obsolescence. You countered with a belief that you think the videos can be manipulated. The same applies to your argument. So you have nothing to dismiss my evidence except for a belief(no proof) that the videos have human error and cheating.

So until you can counter the evidence I posted with facts and not beliefs and what ifs no way to progress this discussion.

The benchmarks have already been discredited as according to them there was zero slowdown between iOS 6 and iOS 10 in 5 years which is improbable as according to PC World Windows 10 is slower than XP but benches the same.

They apologise in the very first paragraph and then try to justify what they did.

"We’ve been hearing feedback from our customers about the way we handle performance for iPhones with older batteries and how we have communicated that process. We know that some of you feel Apple has let you down. We apologize. "

"To address our customers’ concerns, to recognize their loyalty and to regain the trust of anyone who may have doubted Apple’s intentions, we’ve decided to take the following steps"
