iOS 12 Beta 4 ― Bug Fixes, Changes, and Improvements

Why doesn't the battery widget appear on my widget setup to add it?

Found an interesting one on Siri/Shortcuts. This only works the very first time you open the settings app after you have swiped the app to close.

Tested for Safari and News:
After you swipe the settings app to close, launch it new and go to: Settings > Safari > Siri & Search.
You should be able to create a shortcut for Siri to do stuff for you. I added a shortcut to visit macrumors, assigned a phrase and tested it with Siri and it works fine.

If you go back to the general Safari settings and you step into the Siri & Search again, the shortcuts settings disappear BUT the phrase you created still works. I noticed the same behaviour for News.

I don't know if these settings are supposed to show and the disappearance is a bug or if it's the other way around. I suspect they shouldn't be showing. Anyone got any clue?

PS: I do not have the shortcuts app installed.

I had a very weird issue with iMessage were 2 of my message threads merged together. I had a thread for iMessage from my mom. My dad messaged me and my moms iMessage thread disappeared. Once I messaged my mom, both threads merged together.

Are you guys using iMessage in cloud by chance? Sounds like an iCloud Message issue.

Basically you can always restore an older backup than the iOS you are currently running. Just not the other way around. Backups have nothing to do with iOS version signing.
 
Tracfone devices: carrier name changed to TFW and Wi-Fi calling option now appears in settings but won’t activate. I’m thinking they’re getting ready to roll it out.

Safelink on T-Mobile network.

It seems that more light "cures" it when using automatic brightness. I was able to wake the phone when I put it under light.

Just checked again, no issues with my 6S+ or Air 2 - connected a pair of Beyer cans via minijack and Bose Solo via optical, still zero issues.

One add, the Express is connected wirelessly (joined) to an Extreme 6th Gen, 5GHz only.

Having some issues with 3D Touch on the lock screen. Fairly often, hard pressing notifications (first or third party) does not expand the notification or invoke the quick-reply keyboard.

3D Touch works as expected in other use cases, such as using app shortcuts. Reported.

I have observed this random behaviour in case of tap and touch as well apart from 3D Touch.
 
Does it sync with iTunes 12.8? Beta 3 required some software update that the computer was unable to download.

my X gets reallllllly hot on this beta and when ever its hot the screen brightness goes way down and comes back once its cool, didnt have this on past 3 betas

Yes. At least the iP6s does. Just did it via wireless too.(don't recall Beta 3 requiring anything special either though)

I'm seeing that same behavior now too. Also, messages are out of order - normally newest are on top, but I have to back out/in to the app multiple times and/or read a few random messages for the order to correct itself (doesn't always work though).
 
i'm running ios 12 db4 and i have noticed that in iMessages the contact picture for group messages is initially gray. Individual contact pictures are fine. After scrolling up and down the contact picture for group messages re-populates.

Anyone else has this issue? Any fix?

Also, my X overall runs warmer on beta 4 vs beta 1 and 2. Beta 3 ran very hot.

Battery is worse than on Beta 1 and 2. On beta 3, battery sucked very bad.
