I've narrowed down the bug that it happens only when you are replying to a text after opening the app. If you type messages to someone and then close messages, then reopen, type a message , its fine. But if someone sends you a message and then you launch the app to reply then it lags for 2 seconds.

I expect my check in the mail apple because you clearly aren't paying your QA people to do much lately.

Really bad past week and getting worse. Memory leak ?
I doubt its a memory leak. That causes crashing. Its probably cloud/internet related which is annoying as hell. Too much is depending on the cloud and when it breaks it sure makes a loud crash. ....

Speaking of...why do we still not have imessages in the cloud for Apple Watch?

I haven’t seen the delay in a couple of weeks. Maybe it was cloud based. I don’t know. I run power plants , not an IT professional.

This is absolutely ridiculous! I can’t believe Apple hasn’t fixed this yet. We are into 14.2 with countless betas anc they can’t sort it. Unbelievable! This isn’t just a small bug, and it’s really annoying. I don’t think I will ever update my iPhone again until I check to see if small bugs are accruing.

Then you will never update again. With every iOS update since iOS 7 is always one giant step forward and a couple tiny steps back. The amount of stupid bugs in recent years is beyond pathetic. I figure this stuff out within minutes or hours of using my devices every year when theres a major iOS update. Why Apple's QA doesn't catch this stuff is just baffling. Unless they do know and just dont know how to fix it.

The problem is they are complicating the software by massive amounts every year to bring new features and what that does is allow loads of tiny bugs in. Even Craig said a couple years ago they virtually eliminated app crashing in iOS , which is mostly true. But its at the expense of the most annoying and ridiculous bug that drives us mad like this imessage typing delay bug.

I can't help but think (and yes I know I'm about to be cliche) that many of the silly bugs and issues are ones that would have caused the now famously know steve jobs outbursts of screaming or throwing a device across the room and yelling FIX IT.

Tim is all about just making a good enough product to keep the profits rollling in. And thats fine and it's worked. Its just a completely different philosophy.

I totally agree. It ridiculous, and your right I might not upgrade again. Every year it’s something, and we are suppose to be getting better no worse.

I also agree this wouldn’t fly with Steve Jobs. He would never have let this software go if it had this bug. I would understand if it was only effecting a couple of users, but this is wide spread.

Lets not forget last years rollout of iOS 13 that was a complete disaster, including bricking homepods, the iPad Safari bug that constantly reloaded pages. This year is technically better but like I said, one leap forward, two little steps back. The sad thing is that many of these bugs were reported during the beta process. And THEY STILL DONT GET FIXED.

Oh yeah iOS 13 was not great at all, but the iMessage bug effects me way more than those did.

All kinds of issues were present under Steve Jobs as well. That isn't to say that it makes something good or right, but just to point out that that aspect of it is really neither here nor there.

Oh there were bugs no doubt, I just think it’s worse now.

Of course there were issues under Jobs. Like Mobile Me (where he proceeded to scream and cuss out the people involved which led to a massively better iCloud we all enjoy). But software wise iOS , while less complex, was as a whole more stable. Things just felt more polished and thats what Steves M.O. was even if it was a crummy idea. Iconic and polished. Now we 5 different iPads and iPhones to choose from with silly little bugs crawling around.

A good amount of that was more of a factor of early days of mobile technology and market conditions at the time. The comparisons aren't quite a simplistic with many more variables involved, and ultimately don't really say much one way or another.

I’ve noticed with a Logitech Slim Folio Pro external keyboard and iPad Pro 12.9 3rd gen the typing is ever so slightly laggy.

I havent noticed it much in the past day or two on 14.1 , 12 pro, not to say it hasn't surfaced or won't again but

nothing's changed with my habits either haha

Fix bugs or add more emojis? Ok.
Seems like some of both (involving different people/teams). This particular issue seems to be something that's still in the works. Hard to say of it's related to it not necessarily affecting everyone or being sporadic or something else.

?‍❄️ I mean, come on. These guys are essential. ?

But I would still like to include them in my texts without a 2 second delay. I reply with my emojis quickly.

On a XR with this issue showing up since upgrade to 14. Still seeing delay on 14.2
