Nope. 14.1 will be available on the new phones and available for other devices possibly 2 weeks from today would be my guess. But we have no touchstone here and we are all just guessing.

Yea, 14.1 is a big anomaly, but it’s a good educated guess and I’m leaning towards that too. Either the Wednesday or Thursday before the phones arriving.

It's my understanding that 14.1 is what's already loaded on the new iPhones, and what also contains all the software info related to the new hardware. So it's probably safe to assume that 14.1 won't be out live to the public until after next week's event. It's still possible we could get a 14.0.2 this week or a beta 3 of 14.2, they need it.. But I doubt we'll see anything this week at all.

*again, any bug fixes/security related updates in 14.0.1 and/or 14.2 can be rolled into a 14.1.1 release after the event/release of 14.1 in week #42, and before we get them in our hands in week #43...

I'm curious to see if 14.1 will release as "18A..." build or "18B...". I can imagine that 14.1 releases as "18B" and 14.2 betas switches to "18C" builds.

Probably thinking about this way too much, lol.
The letter has nothing to do with point releases, it seems to be tied to Kernel version instead.

Almost all point releases includes an updated kernel version. It's rare that the kernel changes within a point release through the beta period so my point wasn't about point releases but if they will change the kernel version within the same point release.

iOS 13 and 13.1 had the same Kernel version, so did quite a few 13 releases and releases before then.

So if 14.1 is going to come on the phones, it must have something either hardware or software wise that they are working hard to hide. I’m wondering if there is still a surprise feature up Apple’s sleeve.

Well, they do this every year. Could be new camera features, airtags (as @StumpyBloke mentioned) or some other feature(s). I'm sure there's something about the iPhone 12 that we don't know about yet. Not as much as I'd like, but something!

well something to look forward to. I just have a feeling (maybe a hope) that it will be bigger than it usually is.

My guess is still 18a, because you could consider 14.0+14.1=14 without COVID impact.

I'm thinking 14.2 will be available on Tuesday. (Or alternatively 14.1 will be available Tuesday, with maybe Beta 3 on Tuesday/Wednesday).
We won’t see 14.2 until the iPhone 12 Mini & the iPhone 12 Pro Max are in our hands, and that’s looking like sometime in mid-November. More likely we’ll go straight to 14.1.1 from 14.0.1, or that Apple can roll in fixes and stuff from 14.0.1 & 14.2b2 into an updated 14.1 next week, and then release a 14.1.1 after preorders this coming Friday, likely the 20th or the 21st. So it’ll be ready by the 23rd when the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro are delivered.
