From what I’ve read, the iPhones 12 that are currently in boxes on pallets waiting, they’ve got 14.1 on them, which is based off a build of iOS 14 from before the 14GM even. They’ll need an update to get up to par with current devices.I think we’ll see 14.2 on Tuesday with a lot of iPhone 12 code.
We won’t see 14.2 until the iPhone 12 Mini & the iPhone 12 Pro Max are in our hands, and that’s looking like sometime in mid-November. More likely we’ll go straight to 14.1.1 from 14.0.1, or that Apple can roll in fixes and stuff from 14.0.1 & 14.2b2 into an updated 14.1 next week, and then release a 14.1.1 after preorders this coming Friday, likely the 20th or the 21st. So it’ll be ready by the 23rd when the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro are delivered.
Totally! But it’s still (in theory) better than last year! Unless you’re already on the 14.2 betas, then you’re still looking at setting up a new phone, installing the beta profile and updating OTA, and THEN restoring from your 14.2 backup. And that’s as long as they release a beta profile for the new iPhones. Wasn’t there a couple day delay for the 13 beta needed last year for the iPhone 11 Pro Max?That is making my head spin!

I don't think Cupertino is shut off today though.Today is Columbus Day so no update

Yeah, this is exactly what happened last year. 14.2 will not be released before 14.1I hope this doesn’t create an upgrade problem. My 11 pro is on 11.2 beta, if 12 comes with 12.1 version, I have to set It up as new phone, install beta then wipe it and set it up with back up. Possible but a pain.
Oh well such is the life of a beta user.
sorry while I was writing this several posts saying same thing appeared
You're on 11.2 Beta??? 12 is going to come with 14.x not 12.1I hope this doesn’t create an upgrade problem. My 11 pro is on 11.2 beta, if 12 comes with 12.1 version, I have to set It up as new phone, install beta then wipe it and set it up with back up. Possible but a pain.

14.1 will be a newer build than 14.0.1From what I’ve read, the iPhones 12 that are currently in boxes on pallets waiting, they’ve got 14.1 on them, which is based off a build of iOS 14 from before the 14GM even. They’ll need an update to get up to par with current devices.
Yea I picked my 11PM up on day 2 and was able to put beta on it and do the transferI remember that's only 1 day delay. But for those who got their iPhones first day and are on beta, You will have to wait.
Does this mean 14.1 is unlikely tomorrow because 7.1 would be with itJust watchOS 7.0.2 out

Apple abides by semantic versioning for their releases.
.....accept for a watchOS 7.0.2 updateToday is Columbus Day so no update

While that's quite possibly the case it still pretty much shows that Columbus Day or Indigenous Peoples Day is basically not a (company) holiday that has an effect on releases. To be fair, it's a minor update, and was probably pre-scheduled for release today.
I’m not sure about you, but the battery drain issue for me was pretty bad. I’m used to going at least a full day without having to charge midway then the day. If this fixes the battery drain issues, that’s actually a very big update for meTo be fair, it's a minor update, and was probably pre-scheduled for release today.
