unfortunately next week. o_O My guess is Thursday.
The typical cadence (for which I don't see any reason for Apple to deviate) is for the public release of iOS to appear 2 days before the "in store" date, i.e., next Wednesday. Just pretend that this is is really 14.0 (and in a sense, it is) and the timing now all lines up.

Watch Apple prove me wrong!

Well at this point they missed the 10AM PST mark for Thursday, meaning probably nothing until next week. To that point, I agree next Wednesday makes most sense.

Again, considering this post from Macrumors, I would assume that what was released to us in the form of the iOS 14.1GM is not the same as what's in iOS 14.1 version installed on the iPhones 12 & 12 Pro currently sitting in boxes or being boxed up now. The version of iOS 14.1 initially sent out for the new phones some time ago has none of the updates & bug fixes present in the version of iOS 14.1 we got in the GM. That leads me to believe that we'll see iOS 14.1 as a public release either today or tomorrow, and then an iOS 14.1.1 release next week, maybe a week from today, that will be offered directly when setting up our new iPhones next Friday. Aren't there rumors about the new iPads being available the 23rd, as well? Those would be in the same boat...

Nothing so far today, and none of the reliable sources saying it's coming today on the usual places. I don't think we've had a public release for a x.1 on a Friday, we've rarely had some beta builds on a Friday.

Also, you realise that Apple internally had this GM build ready at least 2 weeks ago, maybe a bit longer, since it's 2 builds after 14.0.1. Also, look at previous years where we got a new iOS build in line with a new device, GM comes out to Devs/PB the week before the new devices, this is the same scenario & 14.1 is really the true 14.0 anyway.

I stand by my educated guess of next week (likely Wednesday/Thursday, with a small chance of Tuesday). Then we will see 14.1.1 come out the week of the 26th.

This is the same build that ships on the new iPhones and it‘ll hit next week.

If the build on the new iPhones was older than this GM, it wouldn‘t be 14.1 but 14.0.x.
Anyone hoping for a magic release situation like that will get a reality check on launch day. The most you can hope for is a 14.1.1 some time after the new phones launch.
I’ll still reserve my opinion that there’ll be a 14.1.1 before we get the new phones in our hands.

Yes, Option + Check for Updates in Finder for your device, and then browse to the .ipsw file downloaded from the Dev Portal

Cheers! So it's basically the same procedure as installing an OTA. Didn't know this was possible.

Edit : updated...all's well so far.

I feel like we’re gonna see 14.1 or 14.1.1 next week and 14.2 with the Pro Max and Mini release in November

Based on previous precedent, you'll see 14.1 next Wednesday/Thursday (since Apple will have had the GM signed off internally for 2 weeks already, minimum based on the build - haven't seen anyone confirm the date precisely from the kernel yet). 14.1.1 will come the week after, at the earliest (if it's needed). 14.2 is almost a dead cert to come out the Wednesday 11th/Thursday 12th November, just before the Pro Max and Mini are available. :)

Cheers for that, I had been awake for about 40 hours, so was in no state to get into that myself. 2 weeks then, long enough to load this version onto the new devices they're getting ready to ship. :)

There could be a 14.1.1 but that's not the same as saying that the GM of 14.1 is a different version than the 14.1 thats shipping on the new phones. They wouldn't put a beta version on new in the box products I wouldn't think.

One does not exclude the other. But there wont be 2 versions of 14.1.
The GM build you can install now is the same build that‘ll be on the new iPhones.

Why do a GM of 14.1, only to then not release it and release 14.1.1 instead. From a Dev point of view, that’s madness. The GM would just be straight up 14.1.1.

x.x.1 being released shortly after a major or minor release is not unheard of. What is unheard of is Apple having 2 different builds released as the same version number. I'm not against 14.1.1 happening soon, I am against the thought that the new iPhones ship with a broken 14.1 that gets patched up to the 14.1 GM from the Apple Dev Portal.

If the 14.1 the new devices ship with is borked, this 14.1 GM is borked too cause they're both identical.

14.1.1 coming shortly after, is expected. I have no issues with that (and I reckon that will come W/c 26/10/20).

I’m not questioning anything you are saying. :)

It’s the ‘In place of 14.1’ that I’m saying is illogical.

All I was getting at is that 14.1 is running great for me! And this build was compiled before the first build of 14.2b1 was released? That’s very promising for when we get our new phones on Friday. And technically every release is just “in place of” the prior release, whether it’s a new version (14.1 to 14.1.1) or a new build of the same version (18A8395 to 18A395).

Since you appear to have not understood what I meant by 'It’s the ‘In place of 14.1’ that I’m saying is illogical.', let me clarify, as I would rather you not misrepresent what I meant.

To be clear... I was referring to some people that were saying that the 11 and below would be getting 14.1.1 this week instead of 14.1, which is what I was saying was illogical, as otherwise the GM the 11 & below would have got would have been a 14.1.1 beta.

No, I’m picking up what you’re putting down. I was just speculating that 14.1 could have been released this last Friday, making room for a 14.1.1 release this coming week for the new phones. Obviously that’s not the case.
