Wonder if this means we might get OS updates before the end of the week?

If there was something in the release the new devices need, I’d have agreed, but I’m thinking it’ll be next week.

it’s rare for them to have a short gap between RC and public release.

You may be right, but there is also the thought that you'd expect the new devices to have the latest OS on them, especially since it's this close together. Just pure speculation on my part...

RC and public, when new devices require it, are usually a week apart. rarely ever this short a gap (14.0 was abnormal to use as an example).

I would be quite surprised if they public release it by the end of Thursday before new devices come out Friday.

If I remember correctly, the iOS setup process also includes updating the OS, too, if needed. Or at least offering a prompt to update? I clearly remember it, but now looking it all up I'm finding nothing. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm so lazy and was going to install the profile to install the RC, but waited because I figured that public would come out yesterday. I suppose I'll download today if it's not publicly released.

MacStories states their device shipped with iPadOS 14.5 so it might be next week before we see the final release.

iPad Pro 2021 Review: Future on Standby

In recent years, the narrative surrounding the iPad platform, and particularly its more advanced Pro line, has largely focused on the great divide between the iPad’s hardware and software. It’s a story we’ve had to grapple with for a while now: it was clear with the original iPad Pro in 2015...

Runs iPadOS 14.5 out of the box. iPadOS 14.5 comes preinstalled with this iPad Pro and has Center Stage, which is exclusive to this device. Interestingly, I had initially upgraded my review unit to iPadOS 14.6 beta 3 so I could restore my iPad Pro backup, but Center Stage wasn’t working in that beta release, so I downgraded to iPadOS 14.5.1 by downloading the firmware from Apple’s servers, and everything was fine again.

Review units probably were shipped out 7-14 days ago, so that would make sense. This one in particular, since it was sent to Federico in Italy.
