Well, seeing as the watches are now rumoured for late October, takes them in line with the phones. Meaning we could still be month away from GM....

From what I read on front page it says next week according to Jon. Then it says

If an ‌Apple Watch‌ launch doesn't happen next week, Japanese site Mac Otakara believes the Series 6 will be unveiled at an October event alongside the iPhone 12models.

Dont see that as definitive either way

Apple Watch Series 5 and iPad Air are both showing extended lead times on the Apple Store (at least here in the U.K.) and they are the two products rumoured to be announced next week. Definitely not definitive but lends credence to the fact we may be getting at least iOS 14, iPadOS 14, and watchOS 7 early.

seems like most of the series 5 watches are unavailable here in the states. Does feel like next week or so

I’m assuming they’re still going to have their Standard announcement in Sept and then explain a staggered release over the course of a month.
I think they would have announced it already... I think that, at that point, press release for Watch 6 and new iPad next week and then iPhone event in October makes the most sense, but we shall see. On the other hand, this would mean iOS 14 and watchOS 7 to be publicly available in the coming days which I don’t think will happen, based on how many known bugs there are for Beta 6 of iOS 14. I’m wondering if it’s possible iOS 13.7 to add support for Watch 6.

If 13.7 is this much of a “thing” at all then a (considerably) later public release of iOS 14 could be inferred, yeah?

I think we will get the new beta tomorrow

I think we will get it today.

Don’t know what to think about the final release date at this point. The supply constraints on the Watch and iPad certainly could point to an impending release of the successor products.

Or it could just be 2020 related and they could not make enough of them and had already stopped production in anticipation of the new devices, resulting in an unexpected shortage.

That seems so Un-Tim Cook, Logistics Genius, however

Thank you!!! someone finally stood up haha.

It's The - Yay - Area - Livin.

Oh....well that clears things up!

(somebody tell me what/where "The Yay" is??)

EDIT: Google is my friend...Berkley...learn something new every day...

...and I'm in the camp of "who cares?"

I have the beta and it's running great. Due for a new phone this Fall, but I'm never one of the first in line people as I'm unwilling to end my contract a month or two early. When crap comes out, it comes out. Whatevs...

13.7 looks to me like a backport of the enhanced exposure notification system due to Covid-19 potentially having a second big wave. It‘s smart to get that out as fast as possible to get a head start instead of waiting a few weeks until 14 drops (when we could already be amidst chaos again).

Hopefully the next public beta gets released a few hours after beta 7 drops, like last week. 😁

I'm guessing that's how it's going to be, as that's how it was for previous betas, when it switched to weekly.

I think we will get it today.

Yea, I think the device shortage is a combo of Apple's cutting back for new hardware and the COVID impact catching up with the available stock.

See, if iOS 14 was pretty imminent, why bother with 13.7. that's why I personally thing iOS 14's public release is a month away. It's a tough one this time, as there's a lot of unusual things going on, compared to normal.

Not sure how but I just knew this was a Cali thing (even before I got to @MozMan68 hitting up the Google machine).

Looking forward to another release today even though Beta 6 has been rock solid for me. There's just something so satisfying about watching that upgrade cycle.

So optimistic with the “potentially” & “could”... I’m of the opinion that it’s inevitable.

I totally agree 13.7 is definitely still being updated to support the exposure notifications API. There’s nothing left of 13.x for them to worry about considering 14 is around the corner.

If you're following global trends regarding COVID-19 then iOS 14 being pretty imminent is still a decade away in R0 terms. You really don't want to sleep on this one, that's why Apple & Google rushed out the exposure notification API in the first place and governments that take the virus serious published their apps almost immediately.

iOS 14 being released mid- to late September is not a duration you want to keep improvements to the exposure notification system locked away to pre-release versions. That's why I'm camp "Apple only did 13.7 to get this into the hands of users faster than wait a few weeks for iOS 14".

So it looks like @Theyayarealivin was right after all.

I think you mean 'MIGHT' be right, but then that user changes their mind about releases as soon as previous statements of fact from them turn out to be wrong. Take last weeks Dev Beta release, where all day they jumped on the bandwagon of it being released last Tuesday, then 5 minutes before it came out, they said it's not coming out.... 😂

Yea, but they're expecting it like in the next 2 weeks, if you look at their post history, as they expected the GM last week. I suspect it's going to be the last week of September, if it does actually end up being September. Like I said above, Could easily come out on Wednesday 30th September.

13.7 hasn't come out yet, I suspect that will come out either tomorrow or next week.

I think we usually get GM a week before Public Release, but think there's been times where it's been 2 weeks before. Apple usually give about 2 weeks notice for an event. GM usually comes out after the event in the past, so following history, until we get confirmation from Apple about the event, we're a minimum of 3 weeks from iOS 14 coming out.

So, the Tl:Dr is that it's not likely that iOS 14 is coming out in the first half of September, if that rumour is correct that it is coming out in September.

Not everyone jumps on a new major OS straight away, definitely not companies, having the updated exposure notifications on a 13.x release makes sense and doesn’t affect iOS 14’s release date.
