Exactly, I would download the GM ipsw and do a shift+update, that's it.
GM updates are full size updates and no delta ones. There literally is no point in installing an ipsw instead, because any issue that may or may not pop up is tied to your iPhones configuration then anyways (e.g. a rogue setting from a previous beta build, only a full device reset would fix that).

'b' builds became the GM before, so it's not unheard of. I would be shocked to see another 14.0 beta, prior to GM, as just doesn't seem feasible if the watches and iPads are coming on the 25th.

I read through that thread. I am leaning towards 14 GM the day of the event, with the release to the public the following week (Wednesday or Thursday), with the new Watches & iPad on the Friday.

I can see a 14.1 beta 1 dropping anytime between now and 14's public release (last year has set a precedent).

I think last year's 13.1 beta 1 dropping when it did had to do with the fact that iOS 13 was a disaster but Apple needed a GM for the new iPhones to ship, so they rushed the GM and immediately released a 13.1 beta 1 for it to be finalized by the date the iPhones were released. iOS 14 doesn't seem to be in as bad of shape compared to iOS 13, so I'm not sure we'll see an iOS 14.1 so early this year, but I'm also not on the iOS 14 beta train so am just going by what I've read.

I sure hope that we get at least one more beta. The majority of my apps do not display notifications and would hate for that to be the GM. Have had the problem since beta 6.

considering Gurman still gets invited to Apple events, one can guess Apple has got to be feeding him controlled leaks through his sources.
Gurman? He doesn't leak anything until the day before an announcement, and usually it has been leaked by someone else at that point. The only leaks Apple cares about are ones that give competitors advantage...like things that leak too early.

I would not use the 14.1 issue last year as a guide. That was almost certainly due to the possible trade restrictions and the need to have a "final" build ready in case the phones had to be shipped early to avoid punishing tariffs.

That said, it is a possibility due to the fork in release dates for hardware dependent on iOS 14.

All I can say is: what an a**hole. You accept somebody's paycheck and you play by the rules. Essentially stealing from the company. Hope they find and terminate/file charges.
I was thinking the same thing!! If these are true, how damning is that! Just go and spoil so many teams of people and the work they’ve been sweating over for probably a long time.

Yes, I remember there was issue with not knowing if they’d be able to receive shipments from China at the time. And uncertainty because of how unstable iOS 13 was at the time. This year is different for a number of reasons.

If I update to GM when/if it comes, and then delete beta profile, will that wipe the phone so I need to restore from a backup? Or is that only if you go from iOS 14 to iOS 13?

Deleting the profile will only remove you from the future beta updates. You will receive regular updates from that point.

HomePod OS is on 14.1 so wouldn’t be out of character if iOS launched as 14.1.
FWIW the latest HomePodOS 14.1 beta has had issues.. I’ve got 2 set as a stereo pair in my living room for my Apple TV and since the last beta, the audio has been out of sync with each other. One of them starts sounding like loud ripping paper or something, and I have to go back to my TV speakers until I reboot the two HomePods.
