If GM is next week with show on 15th, then probably no beta this week. That would be my guess.
The last few years we had the last beta as GM. No saying it‘s the same for this year but if no beta this week, b7 could be the GM.

It is surprisingly smooth on my device... bar the occasional stutter in Messages.

that would be strange, september event without an iphone... even iphone x had an event in september with it being released in november
That would be because the iPhone X was released late due to production issues. The companion phones (8/8+) were still released in September.

As I said even if there is no iPhone, they will still need to release iOS 14 for the new Series 6 watches which is in the metadata on the YouTube page.

If it’s a watch or iPad event it still needs iOS 14 to be out.
They don’t need watchOS 7 to be out officially just because they have an event for it. They need to have watchOS 7 officially out when they can get a S6 Apple Watch in your hands. Could be the day before availability if they wanted.

They need to give developers time with final code, they usually get around a week, so a GM will need to ship at least a week before S6 gets delivered.

Right, and my point is that they can have an announcement for a new Apple Watch and maybe iPads or something else, and not release a beta or a GM on that same day. They could, but they’re not tied together. The GM would be released a week or so before the official release, yes. But that could be in 3 weeks. Apple Watch announcement next Tuesday, maybe a GM RC same day or Wednesday, with the official release maybe Friday the 25th to correspond with a hardware release day. Could also be Oct 2. You need iOS 14 to run watchOS 7, not an iPhone 12.

Apple wouldn't hold an event more than 1-2 weeks out from when the product launches, because they'd lose the media buzz leading up to the launch date of the product. This is why the event is usually on a Tuesday and preorders are on that same Friday, with the available for sale date being the following Friday. Yes, they have launched multiple products at one event, with them being launched with staggered availability dates (e.g. iPhone 8 and iPhone X), but there was still one or more products available within that 2 week window from the announcement. We're not 100% sure which new hardware will be announced next Tuesday, but we're pretty confident that at least some hardware is being launched 1-2 weeks after the event on 9/15. Whether it's the iPad, iPhone, or Apple Watch, or some combination of these or other products, any of them directly or indirectly require iOS 14. At this point, Apple has locked themselves into a 9/25 or earlier public release date of iOS 14. They would rather release software sooner than later, even if it's short of one beta and not ready for prime time, rather than lose a week of sales in their strongest retail quarter. Unless something has gone horrifically wrong with the hardware at the last minute, this timeline is pretty certain.

So, just watches and iPads in the event (and not new watches and iPads officially available today via a press release, like some leakers were indicating). Normally GM is the day after an event, with pre-orders that Friday and shipping the week after, but that's when we have a normal event for all devices.

If we don't get a new watch beta tomorrow, then I think that iOS 14 GM will come on the 16th, and public release on 23rd. That's the earliest, as there's always been a minimum of 12 days between the last Beta build & GM (mostly since they have to load the build they treat as GM onto the new devices for shipping, so that takes 2 weeks-is).

If we get a new beta tomorrow, then we're looking at the 23rd for GM and public release 30th.

The event will announce the watch and iPads coming out on the 18th or 25th (again, as it's not a normal event, it could be a 2 week notice period, rather than 1), as we know we are going to have an iPhone & Mac event (since there's going to be 2 Apple Silicon devices coming, apparently), which will be in October & Apple won't want to have done an event, then 3 weeks later do another, I'd reckon we get the iPhone event mid October.

Also think that we're probably going to see an iOS 14.1 or 14.0.1 beta before 14.0 comes out.....

That's my current theories :)

Your mistake is thinking that Apple gets the builds day and date with us. When the GM hits our hands, Apple has most likely already preloaded a lot of devices with it. Not to mention the fact that they‘d already know that Beta X is a GM candidate and lock it in as that.

If we want to update to the final release of iOS 14, does that mean we shouldn’t install the gm once it’s released, in case it ends up being the same build number as the final version.

Same build number means we can’t install the final release of iOS 14, correct?

So skip gm, delete profile and wait for final release?

GM is the same than final anyway so just install it and the day the final is released you have nothing to do.

Know that, but I’d rather get off the beta program once the final version is released.
So just install the GM build which won't have a letter at the end and then delete the beta profile, you're then off the beta program, I've been doing it for years. 99% of the time the GM build is the same as the final and if there's a change you'll be offered the newer build, like what happened with 13.7.

No mistake. Just look at the history, it's never been less than that. The last build we got (a vast majority of the time) is the last beta build made available to the developers. They might have decided that build is GM internally before we get it, and it does take more than 12 days to load onto the devices, but we only see it as that, based on the Dev release.

So there is a good chance beta 7 will be the GM , cause if there is a beta 8 this week there won’t be 12 days until the event ...

Going with one more beta this week, then gm following week, then final release following week. Apple event on the 15th, product start shipping 2 weeks after the event.

Could be wrong though. ?‍♂️?
