Someone was claiming that L0vetodream's tweets about this week were a joke to fool news sites, I said where did they tweet this, the person said that you just have to look at other tweets around the same time. Now I think that person looks a bit foolish lol.

People these days lol, the guy seems to be a straight shooter, calls out other ******** leakers who are just after followers, doubt he gives a stuff about throwing off news sites.

Wonder if he knows when the next Big Sur public beta is coming out. 🤔😂

So , if Apple announces the date of the event tomorrow , there is a good chance this will take place one week later , the 15th.
Then according to me , one last beta tomorrow or Wednesday , GM the 15th.

If watches really aren’t coming till next month then it’s really weird that the online store has barely any series 5 as surely they are losing money not selling watches.

It’s the same with the iPhone 12 Pro. If they are holding an event this month and the Pro models (or at least one of them) doesn’t launch until November they will be losing money on the Pro phones, unless they drop the price from the day of the event.

I assume this was posted somewhere above, but if not, this is a ranking of the various leakers’ accuracy.

That's quite handy, hadn't seen that before. So, the 2 with the better record say no watches this month, over Prosser.

I might be totally mis-remembering, but aren't the events 2 weeks after invites/announcement?

With GM, it's always been a minimum of 2 weeks (well, 12 days to be precise) after the last Beta build, has been as long as 29 dates. So, I don't see GM being a week after the last beta build, so if your guess about the last beta build being the one coming this week, then GM would be 22nd.

Mind you, I was thinking last week's beta was good enough to be the GM build.

COVID hit the supply chain, so that will contribute to there being less stock earlier than usual.

I don't think one week later is enough. WWDC was delayed by three weeks.

So when do we get some alternate default Mail options?

When apps that have been updated using Xcode 12 can be submitted and then released, and have been granted permission by Apple to have that ability. So, you're looking at the week leading up to iOS 14 coming out (if you're running the GM), and if the mail app you want has been approved by Apple to have that ability.

Several observations:
  • The iPhone reveal event will likely be virtual or attended by a very small number of journalists. The long lead time to get invites out will not be necessary. I could see as little as 2-3 days advance notice but more likely 5-7 days.
  • It is absolutely essential to Apple to get the production/shipping pipeline in motion so that it is operating at full capacity by November 1, the traditional start of the Christmas holiday shopping season. While that doesn't mean that all the products need to be shipping by then, the SKUs that will generate the most volume need to be at peak flow by then (thinking 6.1" iPhone 12). That suggests to me that the first day of in-store purchase / delivery date for shipments can be no later than October 23. That then would indicate an announcement sequence as follows:
    • Announcement date: October 13
    • Pre-order date: October 16
    • iOS 14 general release date: October 21
    • Delivery/in-store purchase date: October 23
  • It's possible the in store date could be October 16 or even October 9, in which event back everything up 7 or 14 days from my list above.
  • Assuming my later in store date, that would suggest a GM for iOS 14 on or about October 13th or 14th (at the latest) or Sept 29th or 30th (at the earliest).

All of this means that it seems quite likely that we will see at least 2-3 more betas at least. There's nothing magical about how many there are and Apple may welcome the additional breathing room to iron out some of the kinks still in the builds.

The WWDC official invites went out 7 days prior to the 22nd. A week would not be unprecedented. Remember, even virtual they want people ot have advanced notice to take a break from work etc and watch. Plus journalists be ready and available schedule-wise to watch. I have HUGE doubts they would only give 1-3 day notice of their arguably biggest event of the year.

And in general to Prosser vs Gurman, well, they could both be right. Things are incredibly fluid right now, it doesnt mean whoever ends up wrong was lying. It could be the plans changed. The little timeline Prosser have is already a month or 2 old; things could have gotten pushed back for sure.

All of this is 2nd hand info, these 2 arnt stating it is personal knowledge fact. Just what they are told. And heir sources may not be updated with the info

Or, Apple will be ok with the level of bugs in the last or next release (which could be tomorrow, who knows due to last week's late release and the holiday in the US today).

There's always been a minimum of 12 days between the last build and GM being released to the Developers, and longest was 29 days. Don't forget they have to put iOS 14 the new devices before they are shipped, so that's why there's a minimum gap between the last build we get and GM.

Going by your latest date, the last build would have to be 29th/30th September, or next week at your earliest guess.

Also, it has been said by someone with a good track record that iOS 14 GM will come in September.....

I think that 1 more beta tops before we get to GM, as mostly the current build is one of the better ones, and way less buggy than iOS 12 or 13 were at GM.

I like that this beta cycle for iOS 14 has had some mystery and abnormality to it! :)

I'm not confident there will be a beta this week, but I will say that if we don't get one next week, then I don't expect any more betas and we will be awaiting the GM. :)

Or the release devices with have 14.1 I believe that setup happened with the iPhone 7 launch (top of my head guesstimate, one launch they did that)

They could release the first regular iphone with 14 and then the "pro' model features in 14.1

Gurman said ios14 this month, his track record is pretty strong.

New iPhones have never launched with a x.1 release. Three times they have launched with a x.0.1 release:

iPhone 6s/6s Plus (iOS 9.0.1 on 09/25/2015)
iPhone 7/7 Plus (iOS 10.0.1 on 09/16/2016)
iPhone X (iOS 11.0.1 on 11/03/2017)

iOS 14 beta 8 should probably be released on Wednesday then? Hard to believe they’d release another beta the day after a holiday and after having released the previous beta on a Thursday.. I highly doubt there’s a GM release for us this week.

Things are incredibly fluid right now,

I’ll take a little issue with this statement. They appear fluid to us on the outside. I’m sure it is absolutely rock solid on the schedule Apple set for the releases of both hardware and software.

I say this because its not the “fluidity” of the situation that is causing the confusion about the release date; its that a number of outside events have thrown off the schedule from previous years.

I already said about this and that L0vetodream said it too, earlier in the thread. You could question if they mean GM this month or official release.Could come on the 29th September.

I’m not saying it’s not this month. I’m just going through the variables, what’s logical and what Apple has usually done.

Fluid as in when to announce it, not the the products wont be ready by the target time

We already know there are n phones this month, even if they announced them.

Or possibly the GM depending if anything gets announced today for release soon.

Reckon it’s way to early for a GM release, leaning more towards the end of the month, even if they announce the apple watch series 6 today, doesn’t mean it’ll be available straight away, they could release it in 2-3 weeks when the software is ready, or push out a minor iOS 13.8 update just for the new watch features in the meantime.

exactly...

If I’m guessing 1 more beta, GM end of the month so that they be loaded onto these iPhone 12s, early October keynote with GM to devs, 1 week later public release, iPhone 12 release that Friday. 3-4 weeks later iPhone 12 Pro
