I think it was Jon who said next week will be an interesting week. No matter what it will be interesting.

The entire year of 2020 has been "interesting"... and the impact of it all has touched every sector. Apple and the iOS/iPadOS/macOS beta and release is definitely no exception. Don't expect the "interesting" to end anytime soon. Heck, we could get all the way to "bumpy" if this continues. :D

Realistically, the final beta will come not next week, but the week after, then the GM will come the first week of October. That is if they're doing the same timeframe as prior beta cycles.

In fact I'm calling my shot, iPhone 12 announcement will be October 6th.

Should be fine, considering iOS 13.7 works pretty well and this will give Apple time to polish iOS 14 better for the public release.

This, however, would mean that both the rumoured iPad Air 4 and Apple Watch G6 will not be released until October either? Then what is Prosser excited about re: next week?

I don't think its going to be October before we see iOS 14

its already been reported several times its still coming in September.

The only real rumors we have right now are that the iPhone is likely delayed until at least October, and that Prosser says there will be some sort of Apple thing happening on 9/8. We have no indication of when other expected hardware (e.g. iPad, Apple Watch) is expected, but an announcement on 9/8 seems likely based on historical event timing, and Prosser's record. Since iPads and Watches rely on iOS 14, Apple won't delay iOS 14 just for the iPhone, because that would hold up hardware sales, and it's in Apple's financial interest to launch hardware as soon as it's available (particularly for the holiday quarter).

One thing that caught me off guard is Apple's iOS 14 microsite says "Coming this Fall", which technically doesn't begin until 9/22. I just don't see why Apple would announce new hardware on 9/8, and wait 2+ weeks to release it, though they did announce the iPhone X on 9/12 and not release it until 11/3, so it's not totally out of the question (especially in a pandemic year). Then again, I think Apple has used "Coming this Fall" before, and usually released it after 9/1 but before the official first day of Fall.

Depending no how "Fall" is treated. While technically it would start on the September equinox, colloquially, in the Northern hemisphere, it's often treated as something that just covers the months of September, October, and November (essentially starting at the beginning of September, or post Labor Day in US).

I agree with you, and consider September to be "Fall" too. Just wasn't sure if Apple was being technical or not :)

They can release the iPad Air early with iOS 13, they’ve done that before. Like releasing a new MacBook a couple months before the new macOS, and a couple other times they released a new iPad shortly before an iOS release.

I guess in this case somebody would have spotted the new iPad references in iOS 13.7?

Exactly. Unless Apple found a way to hide new device support (as well as references, glyphs, etc.) in iOS versions already released, then this is unlikely. It would be a different story if iOS 13.7 was still in beta with new builds being pushed out, because Apple could push this new device support in a future beta build before being released to the public. However, since it's already public, that's not possible.

I'd also need to look at historical device vs. software releases, but believe Apple also needs a new "major" version (X.1.X, not X.X.1) of iOS in order to support new hardware. It's not like they could release 13.7.1 to support a brand new line of hardware. X.X.1 releases are saved for quick bug fixes, not major feature releases or new hardware. X.1.X releases take more development resources, and usually have betas. To the extent there are also new hardware features that require additional code, they couldn't just release hardware on iOS 13, which doesn't have the code required for any new functionality.

I just don't see Apple delivering an iOS 13.8 this late in the iOS 13 cycle, particularly when any new hardware features are already in the iOS 14 code. The only thing they could have done is have iOS 13.7 live a double life, meaning there is a separate build being internally maintained for new hardware. However, that would require lots of separate resources for little gain as iOS 14 is around the corner. I don't think we'll see any new hardware on iOS 13 at this point.

They could just push a 13.7.1 update with the new iPads.

Read above. From a software build perspective, it's virtually impossible to support new hardware with X.X.1 releases based on how Apple builds iOS. Only caveat is if they've been having a secret internal build for iOS 13.7 that serves the new hardware. But given that would require a "third unique" iOS branch of software (current iOS 13 for released devices, iOS 14, and iOS 13.7 for these new devices), that would be a lot of extra internal efforts on Apple's part, for very little benefit. iOS 14 is coming very soon but no later than October. They wouldn't commit additional resources for a separate iOS 13.7 build only to release hardware 1-2 weeks before iOS 14 launches.

Everyone’s iPhones might be fine on the latest beta but I’ve had more and more issues with my iPad as each beta is released. I really do hope we get a few more betas to test.

Looks like L0vetodream was more on the money than Prosser with this then!

His been on fire recently, was pissing myself laughing when he said the next macOS version will be called Big Sur. 😂 Then I ate some humble pie. 😂

Someone was claiming that L0vetodream's tweets about this week were a joke to fool news sites, I said where did they tweet this, the person said that you just have to look at other tweets around the same time. Now I think that person looks a bit foolish lol.
