The thing I love about my new charger and standby in my office is yes, the clock…and my upcoming appointments (or weather), but the text notifications are good (a little fast)…but the horizontal call answering and the fact that it automatically does speakerphone, perfecto!

I was super duper surprised to see the horizontal call screen, I wonder if it only worked with beta 2 or what, since I haven’t seen or heard about it in any of YouTube reviews or anywhere else.

Do you guys like iOS 17? Does it feel like a big jump up from iOS 16?
my personal observation is: there are no big jumps in modern OSes, just incremental changes, improvements (hopefully), and new features. more evolutionary than revolutionary. in that respect, my iphone feels much like it did on ios 16... and that's not a bad thing 👍

a small thing, but annoying (for me):

the new grey screen when someone calls looks a lot like my ceiling if someone facetimes me (& my phone is on the desk where it, and i, usually are). so it always looks like a facetime call...
responding to my own post! am hating this; every single call looks like a facetime call; very disconcerting (and reported in feedback assistant).

anyone else feel like this?

In Beta 2 I noticed that PIP video no longer pauses when audio in your main app starts playing. Instead it keeps playing and lowers the volume of the PIP video.

We need this in the Notes app. iOS 6 vibes! Keep it simple. Skeuomorphism at its finest! 💫

It's fun looking back on some of that... iPhone OS was so ahead of its time, especially coming from stuff like Blackberry. I do think, however, that the design language needed to go when it did. These devices are at an age now where, with skeuomorphism, most users may not even relate to the items the icons and app designs would be "mimicking". There are students who've never (literally) used a paper notepad for any schoolwork, those who only know cameras as "the thing on the back of a phone", never used a standalone calculator, etc.

I like the icons on MacOS, and I like that they're very similar but different enough from the iOS ones to be familiar, yet distinct.

Inside the apps, imo, skeuomorphism tended to be overwhelming and distracting from the app itself. Maybe the neumorphism could be that 'happy medium', I don't know. I actually prefer where we are, design-wise, to the OG days. Just give me added functionality, proper split-screen, completely interactive widgets, camera improvements, battery gains, and more AI goodies.
