I’m not brave enough to go on the betas. I browse the iOS 17 forum to see how things are going and, this thread in particular, to read about what quality of life improvements haven’t been mentioned. Can I politely request we keep to the reason for this thread please (from post number 1):

Post about the little things (excluding highly published features) that have changed in iOS 17 here. Note that this is a wiki post, which means that you can add directly to this post.

NOTE: As always this is NOT a thread for bugs, questions, or troubleshooting the betas. All posts must present a new feature or function, or new behaviour not mentioned in the keynote. Please screenshot where necessary. Comments on features are welcome, but stay on topic. This is also not a thread for whining about missing features, complaining, in-fighting, or personal agendas. Keep this informative and to the topic at hand.

Did I say you didn’t know that?

No. So lighten up, Francis.

I was referring to all the other casual readers in here who are not “in on it”.

I agree with @Ansath: that guy’s material does not belong in this thread.

Ahhhhh....I love a good Stripes reference so early in the morning.

I also would have accepted a Pee Wee Herman reference....

You quoted my post (a reply), hence the reply. Don’t act like I came out of left field. Why not quote the original poster if you’re trying to “inform”? I do enjoy a good movie quote, though, so… well done.

This is a nice feature, but not for this thread really, as it was covered in the keynote. As per the OP, the point is to share the things people find that were not in the keynote or on Apple’s iOS 17 preview page. 🙏😇
Oh, I’m sorry. 😞 I must have missed it from the keynote. This is the first time I’m discovering this so not sure how that happened 🤔. Thanks for the reminder.

Well I have to say sadly…Im really disappointed in Apple. The last few years were pretty boring regarding Hardware and Software Releases. I mean…Hardware is of course top notch when we look at the Processor, but we are already in the phase where it simply does not matter if the next iPhone Chip is twice as fast.
You simply dont use that power. Software was always the strong side of the package, but its just boring, in my everyday use I don’t even notice if I run iOS 17…16 or something else.

In the past I was always installing the beta releases because I couldn’t wait for the awesome new functions…but now?

Well yeah…

So you want the OS itself to entertain you rather than the apps you choose to install?

What exactly would you like it to do?

This was always going to happen as the OS / platform matured. Are PCs doing exciting things these days? Not really. They’re commodities. Which is fine. Hammers and screwdrivers ceased being exciting a while ago also but are still indispensable.

Not the OG poster but:

A visual overhaul of the areas where we still see unchanged things for years for example. WWDC is not a third party developer showcase, it‘s about the new OS versions. So of course he is referring to a boring OS update. We like to keep things fresh.

But let’s get back to the topic

I have to agree with this. The keyboard in iOS 17 has gotten so much better. Also, loving the Haptic's.
I'm very happy Apple made the change. You instantly notice the difference.

It's good that Apple has improved the keyboard but a shame it still looks exactly the same as it has since forever with that bleak grey background. I always thought it would be an interesting idea to match the background colour to the hardware of the iPhone blending the software and hardware together, have a blue iPhone you get a blue keyboard, deep purple iPhone get a deep purple keyboard etc. Of course this would be able to be customised in Settings and could be part of the on boarding process when you update for those who don't want it.

Also give us the option to have numbers on the top!

I use the "swipe" method so haven't noticed much improvement, although it does seem to be slightly less aggressive in changing words I'd already typed correctly earlier in the sentence. It still does it, but it's not quite as bad as before.

Yes, I'd love this.

Some AI would also be useful so that when a textbox asks for an email address, the keyboard "knows" and uses the email-address entry layout (you know, the one with the @ sign, .com, hyphens etc.).

That's not a feature that requires AI. That's a feature that requires developers who know which type of input element to use, which is coding 101.

But they don't. A simple "this is probably a box which requires an email address as it has the text 'email' right above it" is probably faster to implement than waiting for every web developer to define their inputs correctly.

Well, unless it's Siri, in which case ...
