Other than the fancy new features that don't actually work, my 12 Mini feels noticeably smoother on 17.0 than 16.6.whatever.

Yeah the wifes one isn't saving for some reason, although mine did work on hers in the end. I told her to reboot but both her and my daughter have a thing about rebooting their devices like its a massive chore. Although you cant beat the old power and home buttons together to reboot so much easier than the secret code entering we have today.
OR just ask "Siri restart my iPhone". Seems a little easier than the secret handshake.:)

After restarting my phone after upgrading to iOS 17, HomeKit thought I wasn’t home. Every time I restarted it would say I arrived home and about 30 seconds later it said I left.

I managed to fix this (temporarily?) by toggling HomeKit under the location system settings, but I didn’t try restarting again to see if the fix stuck. I’ve never had this persistently happen over and over again before.

My iPad didn’t switch to dark mode on its own until I toggled the switch automatically toggle off and on.

It seems like many settings somehow changed and aren’t actually showing what they’re set to and need to be toggled to be fixed.

Anyone notice the lock screen alarm widget is sorta oblong now verses a circle? Looks weird beside the calendar event circle. Like an egg almost.

Random opinions, now that I have the update:
  • Offline Maps:
They were quite late to the game, but the implementation is solid. The thing that bothers me most is that Apple's Maps are still not quite as exact as OpenStreetMap in my city. I thought Apple used OpenStreetMap as one of its sources now, but not here, it seems. I'll stick with Organic Maps for the time being, but I'll keep an eye on Maps. (I would really prefer to have as few third-party replacements as possible, but alas, here we are.)
  • Sticker input keyboard:
Ugh. Why? And why is it enabled by default?!
  • Interactive widgets:
Lovely, at least as far as the apps I use already implemented them. I wonder if I should play with the SDK.
  • The new Safari tab group overview... thingy:
Web browsers are the one class of applications which I would really love to not change their UI ever unless absolutely necessary. This will take a while to get used to. Sigh.
  • Health:
Yay, design changes. I wonder how much I'll like it after a week.

Since updating to iOS17, my wife's brand-new iPhone 14 is reporting it can't charge because the phone has detected the Lightning connector is wet. It's a few days old and hasn't been near any water.

I know of this message, but maybe this is a software bug? Very odd. It was perfectly fine on iOS16 up until this point.

Just woke up to terrible lag & freezing frames on my 11PM. Some apps wouldn’t even open and device was getting hot! Restart seems to have helped. Odd behaviour.

Edit: started again. Everything is slow and lagging, opening any app and awful keyboard lag 🙈🙈

You mentioned that the camera is better. In what way is it better? Camera quality both HEIF and ProRAW? I’m a photographer and I shoot with my 14 pro max all the time. I’d like to see different camera software boost image quality.
Check the "HEIF Max is now an option!" thread for more info ;)

5G standalone has been enabled for Verizon in iOS 17
Wow! I know Verizon enabled SA on their business side (in limited fashion) but haven’t heard anything about the commercial side. I’m assuming the switch doesn’t do much right now but it means good things are coming.

After updating HomePods, Siri no longer works on them at all. She tries, and gives up. Some other users are reporting this in another thread as well. Super lame
I’ve made it a habit to do a factory reset after big updates. Seems to help a lot with such a finicky product.

Well I spent a lot of today doing a fresh install without restoring from a backup, and yet I caught a glimpse of the squared notifications. Yay…
