One thought I just had after reading this: maybe they are waiting till next week to prevent the restore problems for people who are getting new phones and forget to make an encrypted backup on 17.0 on their current phones.

Speculation postulation: will we see the journaling app in 17.1 ? I doubt it but it’s possible.

Definitely maybe.
We did see it in the same week when iOS 16 launched, BUT, thats not really much to go by only hinting at a possible drop date.

My theory is that there will be a an urgent 17.0.1 update for iPhone 12 this week and also a revised 16.7 (updated version from RC) to fix the request from the French authorities regarding the iPhone 12 issue, cannot think of a way that they can specifically issue an update for iPhone 12 as the iPhone 12 Pro uses the same IPSW. my guess it will be factored in the region settings if you have chosen France it will reduce the radiation levels.

Am I correct in assuming that I should keep my 14PM on 17.0 if I plan to do a data transfer to my new 15PM on Friday? I know if your outgoing phone has a higher version you won't be able to back up to a phone on an older version.... But not sure if that applies to .X versions.

You’re right. Let’s assume that your 14 Pro is running 17.1 beta and 15PM 17.0, then during the transfer process you will be suggested to either update to the beta or setup it as a new phone. Generally, I guess it would be a better option to keep your current iPhone on current software version.

That's what I figured. Thanks for confirming!

It’s still listed as arriving this year so I would think it’s in the 17.1 beta cycle only question in my mind is which beta. Fingers double crossed that it’s B1 and today.

If we follow last year's schedule, then it's supposed to arrive today, but it could be next week as well.
While today is quite possible, the Sonoma release early Sep 26 nudges us to consider 7.1 as arriving very close to that timeframe. Depending on what features get added first with 7.1 betas it could be another cross OS example. I was surprised after weeks of hardly mentioning anything new these OS’s Apple is back to promoting what’s new again this week. Example tvOS only mentioned split screen with RC, yesterday it was listing multiple features. Another example of Apple doing something different was seeing 16.7 never released as betas, then 16.7 RC just shortly before 17 shipped Monday. Just seems Apple has a lot going on currently we can’t anticipate by historical guesses.

I assume you are responding to my thought about the journaling app. It could also be in 17.2. If the releases follow last year’s pattern that would still be before the end of the year (early December). That’s where I think it is most likely to land.

Apple is going to cause even more hysteria by showing the cycles directly haha

Hopefully it will calm the freaking out a bit about battery health dropping, because you will see a direct correlation from cycle count to battery health. And hopefully that will mean something.

Saying that, 😆😂

Here’s a parody…

“WTF Apple sort your sh*t out. It’s such a bad design all off it. I’ve still got bugs from iOS 0.1.1”

Reply User 3
“Why isn’t beta 2 out right this second to fix this as it’s effecting only all 3 of us.”

“Hi guys, have you all tried a restart?”

“All fixed”

“Thank you. Now fixed”

Yh it needs a USB C port to get the battery to read cycles
The port has nothing to do with it. Cycle counting has always been done in logs. The only thing they are going to do is show this information in the settings. They could do it on all models if they want.
and the port has nothing to do with it, because the iPhone 15 and 15 plus have the same technology, USB 2.0, as the Lightning port. and if they really put this in, they'll put it in the entire series 15.

Watch update 10.0.1 is out. I don’t think I’ve ever been so happy to see an update. Battery has been abysmal to say the least.
