I’m going to add a few typing input things that are more wishes than predictions.
Please, please fix QuickPath (the iOS swipe keyboard). It is just awful. Trying to get it to accept “what” rather than “west,” “on” rather than “in,” and countless other combos is maddening. This is an area where AI /ML can shine: is it more likely that I meant “West is going on here” vs. “what is going on here”? Hmmm…. Even more maddeningly, the correct word is frequently shown in the QuickType prediction bar just above the keyboard. (And why does the QuickType suggestion often differ from the little autocorrect word bubble that still pops up on the screen occasionally? And why is the latter still a thing?)
But, in seeming contrast to what I just said, they also have to fix the autocorrect “feature” that changes words after (sometimes long after) you type them based on what it thinks you mean (in turn, based on what you typed after the word in question). A fix would be for iOS to suggest the change but don’t make it without asking me to confirm (much like Grammarly does). I can’t tell you how often I’ve had to fix posts and tweets after the fact because iOS surreptitiously “corrected” words without asking me to confirm the change. That’s on me for not proofreading, but still…
Finally, while they’re at it, they need to fix the autocorrect feature that thinks everything is someone’s name: “able” ≠ “Abel”, “same” ≠ “Samantha”, “perhaps,” ≠ “Pensacola”, etc. I have a very long list of these I’ve posted in the past (and can be viewed at FB10008379 in Feedback). I know Apple is trying to get names right, but harkening back to the after-the-fact autocorrect issue in the previous paragraph, isn’t it more likely that in mean to type “keep” rather than “Kerri” (unless there is something in the context of what I have already written that would indicate that I mean to refer to a person named “Kerri”? And isn’t it more K̶i̶m̶m̶e̶l̶ likely (it just did that- inserted “Kimmel” when I typed “likely”!!!) that I mean “I want to keep the new iPhone” than “I want to Kerri the new iPhone”?
