But that “app” also has a review process, rules, uses a single platform which costs quite a bit to maintain, etc. If Apple were to split the App Store into two separate platforms, they’d have to have a whole additional review process they’d have to maintain with a separate review team, a whole separate software to manage, etc. all just for one region of the world. It would be quite a lot of cost and effort to go to rather than just adding a setting buried in the Settings app that you can toggle on with a bunch of popup warnings. I think if Apple were to limit sideloading to the EU, the least likely and most convoluted way to do so would be splitting the App Store into two entirely separate platforms just to appease one region.

But not every app is available in every market. Apple will put the owness on developers and possibly a third party for the sideloading aspect. The review process isn’t affected by that as far as I can tell.

Sure. But what Mark Gurman is claiming is that Apple will create an entirely new and separate App Store platform for the EU. So app developers would have to submit their apps to two separate app stores, one for the EU, and one for the rest of the world. I don’t think that’s very likely at all.

My point is, by having apps regional already, they do it that way today. Sideloading just makes it more complicated by adding an extra step to the EU specific app page that already exists.

There may be a single App Store today from a structural standpoint, but it is then parsed down by region depending on where the developer says the app should be available. Right??

Just like Apple Music??

Same app…different regions.

He may be using the word “separate” but I don’t think it’s a long journey to get there based on how they do it today. Guess we’ll see.

I think there’s a pretty big structural difference between having one App Store with different regional “storefronts” vs two structurally separate App Stores, one of which would only have one storefront, but many of the same associated maintenance costs as the multi-regional storefront App Store platform for the rest of the world. As I said, maybe they’ll opt to go that route, but I kind of doubt it would make much sense. I think creating and maintaining two structurally distinct and separate App Stores as Gurman is suggesting would be very impractical. And currently, there’s one App Store that app developers submit apps to, and then they can select regions to offer their app in. If the EU had it’s own structurally separate App Store, app developers would have to submit their apps to both App Stores if they wanted to include the EU among their coverage.

Sorry, usually drops at 10am Cupertino time.
Ok, cause I thought I normally see them around 2:00 PM EST, but I could be remembering wrong. Hopefully they release it soon. I hope they don’t decide to wait a whole week.

I just googled it, and it does seem that 10:00 AM Cupertino time is typical. Maybe today’s an oddball later day? Or hopefully at least it will drop tomorrow.

It’s still possible around 1 PM PST or a bit before. It’s 10:48 AM PST
Normally betas launch in the mornings but like beta 3 showed, iOS/iPadOS/Watch 10AM PST, tvOS, MacOS at 1 PM PST

Most of the time they show shortly after 10 AM PST.

No beta showing up yet. It could drop today, but I’m thinking tomorrow might be it. Hopefully it comes tomorrow.
IMO it depends on how many betas we need. If 17.4 truly has to come out before the 3/7 deadline we will probably have to see a beta soon. Last year 16.4 came out in late march 3/27 , if EU extends the deadline a couple of weeks they may wait on a beta till next week

Yeah, I agree, I would think they’d try to get the beta cycle rolling, that way then can release a final release before the March 6 deadline. 👍🏻

Due to the EU regularities they need to add some kind of sideloading until March 6th.
In term of sideloading, I think there might be difficulties about to make it possible on all supported IOS versions, not just in 17.*.
There are still 16.4 that are still supported on older devices.
