I really hope they drop an update today. I don’t believe there’s any good reason to waste weeks worth of beta testing and development for iOS 17.5.
At this point I think we can safely say that Apple disagrees with this point and that they believe there is a good reason to hold off on the release.

We can only speculate as to what that reason is but it's likely a combination of knowing their schedule, knowing what work needs to get done, and understanding how much time they need from the beta cycle to hit their targets.

The funniest thing would be when they release the 17.4.1 and it’s the “leaked” build. Which would mean it would have been ready to go for 2-3 weeks and we have just been waiting for nothing. 😂
Unless 17.4.1 is the build that the new iPad are launched with. Then that kind of explains everything (assuming it comes after the iPads are announced).

Ok, but why would that mean they couldn’t continue to put out new betas? That would just give us more time to beta test iOS 17.5, and make it a more stable release.
iOS 18 is rumored to be a massive release. It's possible they've taken advantage of this little break to put some extra focus over there.

Here's an Apple centric site that actually had the URL all set to go on the 12th for 17.5 beta. So I think there are some in all circles still in an endless holding pattern.

Why is it so hard for people here to accept that Apple likely changed its release timeline for 17.4 to accomodate the DMA and has just reverted to its already pre-planned schedule for the balance of the 17.x releases? Its the simplest explanation and, thus, using Occam's Razor, the best explanation.
The simplest solution is the correct one (Ockham's knife)

Because that wouldn’t make much sense, they’d waste several weeks of valuable development and beta testing time for iOS 17.5 just for what? To supposedly “stay on schedule”? By that logic, they were supposedly already “scheduled” to release beta versions of iOS 17.4 these weeks, so in order to “stay on schedule” they could just release a couple or few more betas for iOS 17.5 in the place of those “scheduled” iOS 17.4 betas. Then they’d stay on schedule, and iOS 17.5 would just be that much better for it with more beta testing before launch…

Do you have the slightest clue what it’s like to work in a large operation? You don’t just start randomly changing deadlines due to other events.

It wouldn’t be changing any deadlines. You just release a couple more beta versions of iOS 17.5 (since they were already scheduled to release betas those weeks anyways). Doesn’t effect deadlines. The public version of iOS 17.5 could drop on the exact same day they scheduled.

Bingo. All of us speculators operate in a nearly complete information vacuum. Apple, on the other hand, suffers from no such deficiency and, I daresay, probably understand their business a wee bit better than the “I want it noooowwww” crowd here.

I’m done with this idiotic discussion and have taken the necessary steps to ensure I am not exposed to it any further.

Yes, they could release some additional beta builds, and if they felt it was valuable to do that they would have. However, it looks like they have chosen to do something else.

This means that whatever that something else is it has been given a higher priority than releasing a few extra weeks of betas.

Everything's a choice. We don't always know why Apple makes the decisions it does, but internally there is a reason why the betas for 17.5 have yet to be dropped.

If iOS 17.4.1 is being held back until the iPad launch to avoid leaking secrets then it stands to reason that the 17.5 beta also has to be delayed. So I don’t expect anything until at least March 26 which just happens to be my birthday. Yay!

Apple doesn’t really have anything to be secretitive about updated iPads, iPadOS is the roadblock now. Camera, M3, Display are the usual variables.;)
