Welp, trying to update to the newer build through Finder just bricked my phone (getting an error 21 whenever I attempt a restore/update). Gotta try and swing by an Apple store before work tomorrow :(

Given the exceptionally unusual timing of this release, I would exercise extreme caution before installing it. Especially since it was not accompanied by a press release of some kind.

Not saying it’s malware, as that would be hard to pull off. But my guess is that it’s a mistaken release, possibly an incremental update to deal win the phishing vulnerability, but put on the update servers by accident.

Exactly, use caution. This update is not showing for me, so quite possibly Apple pulled the update.

Let’s see later today what happens. In any event if there is a 17.5, it definitely won’t be coming this week. 😩

Alright, I'll bite (said the guinea pig). I just plugged my iPhone 14 Pro Max into my Mac mini and clicked Check for Update and Apple says I should update. Nothing OTA and not seeing the updated build on the Dev Portal. Let's see what happens! (famous last words)

***Edit***

Whelp, looks like it's trying to create a local backup on my Mac during the update process, even though I've got it set for iCloud Backups. Oh well, that's about as far as this guinea pig is going...

It hasn't been pulled. I plugged my iPad Pro 11" (3rd generation) and iTunes said an update was available.

It is pretty strange to see an updated release come out around midnight, but it's available! Albeit only thru iTunes/Music. I did see someone reply on X saying it "bricked" their phone, so take that with a huge grain of salt. The odds that an update could/would actually brick the phone are slim to none. There's almost always a way to get it to boot up. Maybe we'll know more in about 5 hours...

Actually @iLuddite here said that also.

Got the white "swipe to upgrade" screen after update before I could use my 13P but all data was intact after the update.

It would be nice to get a statement or overview from Apple. Even the developer releases news page still references the latest build being the one from March 21st.
