It’s almost here, less than 12 hours away, any last minute predictions??

Remember, just about every year there’s been concrete rumors that didn’t happen, and total surprises. I expect no less tomorrow, lots of letdowns, and some surprises.

Get some good sleep tonight, eat a good breakfast so you’re not hungry while watching the keynote. The ceremonies have begun! 🎪🍇🕯️
My expectations! We are going to see it all. Way too excited!!! ❤️

Seems about right from the get go.

Beta updates OFF, but here it is anyway! BUG. REPORT.

My primary wishlist for iOS 17 updates:

  • An improved Apple Music app. I’d like to see a better organized backend catalog, an improved UI with faster navigation and more gestural controls, a rethought Library tab with Smart Filters, and improved performance and features.
  • A redesigned TV app with upgraded ‘Up Next’ and show tracking functionality.
  • Updates to core apps including Mail, Phone, Calendar, Reminders, Maps, and Notes. I’d like more interoperability between them, especially between Reminders and Calendar.
  • Improved keyboard autocorrect. It really sucks.
  • Siri 2.0
  • A return to more depth and skeuomorphism across iOS.
  • Clipboard history
  • Improved Search across the OS
  • More interconnectivity between devices (iPhone, iPad, Watch, Max, AirPods)
  • Fix audio playback so your music doesn’t get paused by various websites, apps, and ads that hijack it.
  • Better UI consistency across the OS. Apple should go through iOS with a fine tooth comb and fix all the minor paper cuts and niggles throughout.
  • Change the folder UI in apps like Photos and Music to reduce confusion between folders/albums/photos/playlists, and also add more tools for sorting/filtering so you can find what you’re looking for.
  • Live widgets
  • More powerful Dynamic Island

Let’s see if we get any of these. Fingers crossed. I’m going to guess we get 4 of them.

one small thing, which might only bother me is:

Your in the photos app, see a pic and think, "owe mum would like to see this pic of her grandson covered in mud"
So you send it and chose WhatsApp or iMessage.
you add a little caption and send it, but nine times out of ten I want to write more in a separate text bubble.

This is laborious bit. yawn.

Then you have to come out of photos app.
Then go into Whats app.
Then find the message to Mum to carry on.

I would like to see the iOS intuitively open the message after it's been sent.
So you move from Photos into the Whatapps/iMessage to can carry on typing your story.

The UX would flow so much smoother.

Maybe thats a toggle option as it wouldn't suit all who just want to send a pic and close out.

Exciting times for a product designer. Can't wait to see what xrOS is and the concept they went with. There's tons of different ways to go around it and I'm sure they chose the best but it's still very interesting on the UI/UX front. This is likely going to be the most exciting WWDC to date. I suppose iOS/iPadOS/macOS won't be the most interesting releases this year but that's okay. iOS 16 brought a lot and broke a lot, so focusing on stability is best.

A question for everyone - do you think this is the "one more product category" Tim Cook was talking about overseeing in interviews before he retires?

I’m upset that people didn’t start giving hourly countdown posts.

Despite work, travel, major client visit…blah blah blah…going to installment my main phone!!

(and maybe I’ll pack my Pixel just in case…)

The ONLY feature I WANT and NEED is using my 512 GB iPhone and iPads as USB drive to transfer data seamlessly to and from my PC. Not like the busted and convoluted App storage solution they have. It seems like Apple is all against simplicity these days.

Onedrive is your friend. Everything on my phone is saved to my onedrive storage and it works seamlessly with all my deivces regardless of platform.

Will non devs be able to install iOS 17 beta 1?

Yes. The public will be able to install Public Beta 1 in late June or early July, if the past pattern holds.

If you are referring to Developer Preview 1 (and I know you are), I don’t think Apple has spent all its time changing the deployment process from from profile-based to account-based just to to say “never mind” when iOS 17 is released as a beta.

Might someone find a way around this? Sure. I’m guessing it will take more effort than it’s worth though.

Except that with the changes Apple made to its fine structure, Quicklook no longer works for most OneDrive files stored in the cloud.

We need Mac icons on iOS.
Yes, I’m hoping for this as well! 👍🏻. Maybe they were waiting for the 10 year anniversary of some of the current icons and the flat aesthetic? Or maybe they were waiting for the release of their AR/VR headset? Here’s for hoping that they do this this year! 👍🏻
