Only 5 hours and 20 minutes left! 👍🏻🎊🎉
And only 2 hours and 6 minutes left to finish this archived backup of iOS 16.5 on my External drive! It's a race against the clock!

I cannot believe this is the one feature so many want.

For me, a designer, I love a 360 design approach across all platforms blah blah for a brand.

So a Mail icon, for example, I’d want to see this the same design across, Mac, iPad, iPhone, watch, etc.

It does baffle me why it doesn’t work like that. Almost bugs me. Would be such an easy change.

A question for everyone - do you think this is the "one more product category" Tim Cook was talking about overseeing in interviews before he retires?
I’m more interested in who will be the next successor… I’ll hope it’s Federighi, but the way it’s arranged it should be Jeff Williams.

Exactly, I’m a part-time freelance graphic designer/digital artist as well, and it kind of bugs me that the icons are just ever so slightly different. Like, why not just make them the same across the board? I guess some people have said it’s likely to do with iOS’s flat UI design, hence flat app icons, but I think the UI can remain flat with the app icons slightly neumorphic. One thing that gives me a bit of hope is that the apps Apple has added to iPadOS over the last year all have a bit of neumorphism to their icons. Examples: Apple Music Classical, Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro. They all have more shadowing and shading than the traditional iOS icons such as Mail. I’m really hoping that they switch to a neumorphic icon set just like the macOS icons, every time I see a mock-up of iOS and iPadOS with those Mac icons I think it looks right. Of course my bigger hope is that they add customizable app icons, though I’m not sure if we’ll see that this year or not. It will be interesting to see, because I think customizable app icons would be the right route to go, it would give those who want something that looks entirely different the option to do so, and it would give me the option to use macOS-style app icons! 👍🏻

Will non devs be able to install iOS 17 beta 1?
No way we could know, but I think so. The changes to updates were related to the way OTA updates function. Nothing has been done for now to restrict IPSW updating. Which is understandable since everyone having access to OTA causes an unnecessary server load making it slower for the people who actually need the beta to get it ASAP (we've all been at the 'Update Requested' screen for hours)... Or at least that's what I can think of as the only real reason Apple would restrict OTA that way. IMO there shouldn't be anything stopping you from updating through the IPSW if you have access to it. But they certainly could decide to lock the IPSW too for iOS 17.

I think most people want it for the sake of change. It's been 10 years of the same general style. I don't think it's coming because that'd be change for the sake of change and Apple never does that. But I'm not opposed to it. If someone really wanted to achieve that look they could do it through Shortcuts

I don’t mind if manual app icon customization is the answer to get this result, but currently Shortcuts is more of a workaround than an app icon customization system. A., it’s several more steps than would be required by a well-implemented icon customization tool. B. It routes you through the Shortcuts app before the app you created the icon for opens, which can become really annoying, and creates a bit more delay. C. Your icons created via Shortcuts don’t display notification badges for the app. D. The new app icons you created with Shortcuts are not cross-system, they only show up on the Home Screen. So the original icons still show up everywhere else: the Notification Center, the Share Sheet, the App Library, etc. So I don’t think Shortcuts is really sufficient for app icon customization.

We’ll know later but I disagree. I don’t think they did this for load balancing purposes but to restrict access. My guess is that if you are not signed in with a developer account, even IPSWs won’t install.

Oh I have no problem with wanting a change to the iconography. But making that your greatest wish? Really? There are so many other things that would make a bigger impact.

Does anyone know the running order?

I'll miss the first half an hour gotta go pick up my son.

The headset is the wildcard. Will they lead with that? Will they save it to the end for a “one more thing”?

No way of knowing. But my guess would be that it comes at the end.

For me it isn’t my biggest wish, but I do hope they do it. Like I’ve said before, I don’t think it will be the end of the world if they don’t do it, but I just think it would be nice to have. 👍🏻
