I think much of what you say is true, but at the same time, I suspect they’ve also not yet optimized the processes for photo handling and cleanup. So I suspect the processor may be working harder than it will once18.1 is released. You also have to account for the fact that it’s probably logging a lot of the activity as you do it, which is possibly also straining the processor and generating the excess heat.
I hope that’s right. I would love it to get better optimised and cooler for sure.

Having a seriously annoying issue with this build on my iPhone 13. Everyone once in a while, when using or opening an app, the screen goes black with a circular "loading" icon rotating in the middle of the screen and then 3-5 seconds later it throws me back to the lock screen.
I think that's what people are referring to as a "re-spring".

Basically, the GUI (aka SpringBoard) dies and restarts.

Isn't it amazing that different iPhones and/or different people have a varying degree of success, or no end of troubles, or indeed, like me, have absolutely no issues with Beta5 on my 15PM!

Stay safe out there folks!
Not amazing at all. With over 1 Billion active iPhones in use and almost 4 million apps in the App Store I can’t even imagine, much less calculate the possible number of combinations of potential uses and or conflicts much less the number of pure user errors causing/ blaming the iPhone for the trouble.

And then bake in defective or worn hardware….

Is it a new iOS 18 thing to dislike or has this always happened? When using the share sheet to share with messages, the cursor is starting on the “To” line and I keep typing my message and having to delete it and select the text field… given that muscle memory is in play, I can’t imagine it’s always been like this… but maybe I’m just dumb. Thoughts?

Pretty sure it’s always been like this.

I'm not gonna lie, the amount of bugs and freezes I've had on my iPhone 16 since I got it delivered on Thursday was more than I've had in the past 2 or 3 years and I've been installing Dev betas straight after WWDC.

I’m actually on my second iPhone 16 Pro Max (for reasons unrelated to the condition of the hardware) and I’m discovering that several issues that I thought were software / beta related on the first phone probably were hardware issues. These include cellular and WiFi issues and issues related to my AirPods.

So don’t rule out hardware problems.

Apple took back the iPhone with iOS 18.1 on it?

Anyone running into issues with notifications...particularly the messages app? Only about 25%-50% are alerting me with either a sound or coming through to my Apple Watch. Using 16PM. The messages do appear on the lock screen. Did not have this issue in previous beta or noticing it with the mail or gmail app.

Also, just an FYI, I do not have scheduled summary turned on.
For me there is no consistency.. I can have messages open but get a new notification on my watch before it shows on my phone.

I feel like iOS 18 was rushed to meet the September deadline. Seems like it should've spent way more time in beta testing.

I have noticed an issue where camera freezes when macro mode switching lenses in 4K 24FPS and 30FPS. It works on other resolutions and FPS settings.

Anybody else experiencing that?
I have reported it to Apple through feedback. Hopefully it will be fixed soon.

Does anyone know if this issue fixed in future iOS updates?
Where camera basically completely freezes for a few seconds when on 4K 24/30FPS and gets closer to subjects?

Actually, everything was fine on my old 13. I had iOS 18 installed since day 1 and everything was fine, other than battery draining quite quickly though that’s kinda expected.
But when I got my 16 and I immediately updated it to 18.1, the camera app froze completely so the phone needed a reboot. When I started downloading songs on Apple Music, the app also froze completely. Then there’s this camera button touch screen issue. When you hold your phone kinda tightly with your right hand, the area around the button would make the whole screen lag, this feels like palm rejection isn’t working properly.

The problem, I'm guessing, is despite all the testing we as beta users did, none of us tested any version of iOS 18 on the iPhone 16 until they day they came out. And by then it's too late :)

There's a super annoying bug in the latest 18.1 B5 that causes constant random resprings at least 4-5 times a day and I can't pinpoint any steps to reproduce other than using the phone. Some say it's related to the camera but it could happen at any time. Ofc it's a beta so expected. Battery is noticeably better, still really bad though. If you haven't updated yet, just don't.
