Bejeweled 2 just updated and I'm very impressed. It appears to use the freeze state better then any other app I have probably because it requires no data connection. I hope all the other apps follow their lead. The game picks up right where I left off as soon as I open the app. There is no delay whatsover in loading. It works beautifully.

I'm not getting as many updates as I'd like. Only three apps on my phone are 4.0 ready and I haven't gotten one single update today, although I'm not sure what hours the reviewers in Cupertino work.
I'm also very disappointed. I have 4 apps that multitask, out of about 40-50 apps.

I gotta say I am pretty much not impressed with many of the big named companies dropping the ball on this saying they still want to do testing after the GM has been out since WWDC and they've had betas to play with for months.

Skype is probably the biggest one to have dropped the ball. Sounds like they'll be pulling a Meebo this year.

Was going to say TomTom, but that just came out

I am surprised with TomTom as well, they were on the ball with this one. I think the crashing bugs forced them to be ready for the 4.0 launch as best they could or face customers going to competitors.

Byline

Just released update for Byline with high-resolution retina display graphics and multitasking with task completion so that it can download complete web pages in the background and you can read them offline later.

Free download.

Byline is my favorite RSS reader for iPhone and the background task completion is a really nice new feature. I haven't noticed the resolution differences but maybe I will when I get an iPhone 4.

The game "Flight Control" has been updated and the new API version of saving the app's state is much better than the old way. Previously, if you got a call, Flight control would re-launch, show the splash screen, load for several seconds and then the game would continue. Now it is practically instant when you re-launch the game

There's no difference at all when running on your current phone, but there'll be a huge difference when running on the high-resolution retina display in the iPhone 4.

Twitter.

It still takes too long IMO to refresh the timeline. Even when adding nothing it can take up to five seconds just to check. That doesn't seem long but a lot of similar procedures in other (non-Twitter) apps I have only take 2-3.

EDIT: OK, right after I posted this I checked the app and it took 2 seconds to update. Maybe it's just Twitter's flakiness the rest of the time.

Plants vs Zombies, as well as Peggle, are now compatible with multitasking. Seems most of PopCap's games, if not all, are now compatible. :)

EDIT: Just tried Peggle with fast app switching, it works very nice.

Slacker update keeps showing up for me, but when I download it, seems to be the same version. Keeps poping up for update, I guess it hasn't fully propagated yet.

Do note that Twitter cannot update in the background. So while fast app switching is possible don't expect it to notify you of unread messages or new items.

Not directed at the original poster I'm replying to, but anyone who happens to read this. There appear to be a very large number of people who misunderstand multi-tasking.

Agreed. I like the addition of fast app switching, so I can get back into my app fast. It would be nice if Twitter had the option of Push notifications (I'd love it it pushed updates of certain people to me).

That would be very very hard on Twitter. Imagine trying to run servers that would have to monitor and potentially inform millions of people of millions of tweets. Just seems so difficult. Their servers have a hard enough time with simply posting and displaying those tweets. Now add the complication of informing people via push notifications... yes it would use separate servers but just try to imagine the number of notifications they'd be sending. I'm not even sure Apple's push servers could handle the load of Twitter officially doing push notifications even on direct messages.

The Zinio app was updated with multitasking support last night. It definitely supports fast app switching, not sure about task completion for magazine downloads.

I find it interesting that there is a push to get updated iOS 4 compatible games approved and out. Can't we get anything useful updated? For example, download apps that can continue their downloading while out of app, storage apps where we can take advantage of USB file transfer, fast app switching, etc....

That's very true. :(

Woah two days and we can't IM+ approved? facebook? Tv.com? some radio player app perhaps?

TuneIn Radio was updated the day iOS 4 was officially released. I use it quite a bit now.

Here's hoping Beejive gets an update soon. It could really benefit from a Colloquy-like use of task completion to keep our server connection alive for a few minutes for those times when we just want to check something in Safari...

It's been suggested on their forums, but Beejive hasn't announced any such update yet :(

I'm hoping for at least fast app switching, as switching from Safari to Beejive to Facebook to Beejive to Twitter to Beejive to Safari to Beejive can add up in time when Beejive takes 5 seconds to load the last chat. Fast app switching sure would save time in the long run. :D
