Not entirely sure why you would want to take the LumaFusion library to an external drive. But, if you asking me if I can work entirely from an external drive... the answer is yes. I just have to link the folders I want to use in the external drive for LumaFusion to access it.
I put LumaFusion projects on an external drive so I can transport them to my M1 Mac mini (which runs iPad apps). It's wonderful use this app with the LG UltraFine 5K monitor.

My 11” space grey with cellar ordered opening morning as soon as I could get the cart to hold it says 21-27 May.

I notice it says express shipping but if you try and order now it says something like normal shipping. Any significance to the express shipping ?

No Apple has a habit of under-promising and over-delivering. If the factory is able to crank out another batch of iPads they weren't expecting, Apple is not going to sit on them until the next group is up to ship them. Plus, if you meet or beat shipment dates the customer would be more pleased than receiving it even a day late. Apple is allll about the customer experience. When it comes to launches, Apple goes with the more conservative production number the factory quotes and sets dates from there.

Don't get me wrong, the cancelations and payment issues certainly help but with the sheer number of people who end up getting bumped up every year to a sooner delivery date that can't be the only cause.
We could debate it all day since neither of us have access to the underlying data, but even more so with the shortage of chips affecting the global economy right now I don't think Apple is overestimating here. We can't even do Day 1 store pickups for the first time for any Apple product launch I can think of. Store availability is unknown so far. It is clear Apple is aiming to get a solid queue of orders in place to help them manage components.

We'll see dates pull up for many, but I'm still convinced that will be largely due to cancellations and etc and not because Apple is trying to under promise and over deliver. There just isn't enough slack for that currently.

The chip shortage theory would make sense if the 11” was affected too, but it’s not. Last I checked every single 11” configuration is still available for launch week delivery, while not a single 12.9” is. At least in the US. The 12.9” may be more popular this year but not this popular.

Additionally regarding pickups, I don’t think that was available for iPhone 12. I could be wrong, I didn’t care at the time because I wasn’t upgrading, but to me the lack of in-store pickup has to do more with Covid than the device shortage.

Think not allowing store pickup option right now because can’t schedule store pickup when placing order due to unknowing shipping dates. COVID not allowing for walk-ins either like saying.

12.9” Silver 128gb ordered when went live, said delivery 5/21-28, but couldn’t get app to accept trade-in so by the time I decided to give up on the trade-in, confirmation email at 8:10am said delivery 6/2-9. Really bummed about delivery date and trade-in. Will have to do it separately and take a credit.

Anyone knows if iPad Pro 12.9 with USB-C T4 can now act as an external display for Cameras or Cable TV. using one of those Android Video Capture apps? Galaxy Tablets have been able to do this for some time. Thanks

The chip shortage affects more than just the M1 chip. Apple has secured the allotments it needs for its CPUs, but that is also spread to components as well. Such as the Mini-LED screen. There are more than 1 chip inside the machine.

I don't think this is the reason. I was able to pre-order for and do launch day store pickup on my iPhone 12 Pro and my AirTags. The iPhone 12 Pro was before Apple stores were open again and they were done in "express pickup" to prevent browsing the store and etc. iPad demand is much lower than iPhone demand.

Ordered as soon the pre-order opened up at 6am my time, there was about 2 messages saying something about some items are being adjusted accordingly. Took me 3 tries to get the 12.9” silver 256gb wifi in and checked out. Also ordered Apple Pencil 2, USB-c charging block and 2 meter USB-c to USB-c cable. Delivery for the ipad is May 27 to June 2. the accessories should be here May 4th. Will be a very nice upgrade as I am currently using the first generation 12.9” pro 256gb wifi. 5 and half years of using this item every single day is worth it :). Very very excited here.

I know there’s more than 1 chip in the iPad. But do you seriously believe there are part differences between the 11” and 12.9”? Like actual chip differences on the board? The board may be bigger or smaller but they would contain the same parts. So again, why produce more 11” than 12.9”? It’s because of the screen.

Again, Apple would rather underpromise on the delivery date than overpromise. You think someone is going to call and bemoan them for shipping it a week early? No of course not. Will people bemoan them if it comes a week late? Of course. So Apple uses the conservative production numbers. If they pump out more, people get it earlier. If they pump out the bare minimum, then everyone gets their iPad when they were told. The number of cancelations cannot account for all the people being bumped up.

Late to post, but ordered through the mess this morning.

12.9" / Silver / 256GB / WiFi : May 21-28
12.9" / SG / 1TB / WiFi + Cell : June 9-23

What I found most odd is there appears to still be no option for in-store pickup on launch day. Frustrating as I usually pickup in store so I can save the sales tax.

Nice thing about my 1TB being delayed is I get the chance to see what WWDC brings to know if I should swap that down to 512GB and shave off $360.
I’m in Canada and I could not chose to pick up my order in store either. First time that I see that

For the Australian market, only the 12.9" 128GB (wifi and cellular) are available for May delivery (24th - 28th). All other 12.9" models are expected in June (1 - 16) at this stage. Like iamMacPerson said, all 11" models are still available for May delivery (24 - 28) in Australia.

I am not sure if Apple is surprised by the popularity of 1TB and 2TB models (at least at this early stage), but I am personally astonished. I want 16GB RAM models too but, I personally cannot justify 50% to 80% price hike (of course, that increased the capacity too - which, I don't need at this stage). Maybe things will look different once the new iPadOS is launched and iPads can run MacOS apps or something along those lines. I would be interested to see Boot Camp-like (but improved) system where the user can decide to boot-up their iPad with iPadOS or MacOS. That way, folks can turn their iPads (with keyboard) into a touch-screen laptop like a Surface Pro.
