I paid £625 for a 64GB + US iTunes $15 card. Is that a good deal?

You paid almost $1000 USD for a $700 product, if you think its a good deal. adn you where happy to pay it, then yes.

But the other person probably made a good $150 out of that after shipping and stuff.

:apple:Mike

also trying to see the positive. now i can get a 64gb 3g...maybe even get a contract with subsidised iPad, which would help stop my partner moan about the cost :p

Imagine the 3G was delayed?

My other worry with the 3G in the UK is that if the rumours are true, then the release was delayed because of pressure from the UK carriers upon Apple to release the 3G and WiFi iPads simultaneously.

Now, if there are subsidies available in return for signing contracts, it worries me that the non-subsidised price could be inflated even higher so that the subsidised prices appear even better
No way i'm getting a contract as I am moving abroad in the summer.

I am moving abroad in the summer.
Most people will regardless of Election outcome :p

I doubt there will be subsidised iPads as it isn't like the iPhone, I don't think they can make as much to make the subsidising worth it but I could be wrong on this.

From what I have been reading, buying an Ipad off Ebay or from an importer is classed as a 'Grey Import' and apparently it pretty much voids any warrenty as the warrenty is not in your name.

This alone put me off Ebay as well as the larger price tag with fear of also getting vat on top.

rofl...and if you want a 64GB one when they *eventually* come out over here, you'll likely be paying £15 less ;)

£15 for a product 6 weeks early with no queues or bother on launch day...I'd buy that for a $ or 2

Buying it from the apple store youself is apparently fine and covered but through is a reseller is grey area. Did you get those from Apple or through Ebay/reseller?

Can anyone offer advice on reliability of "borderlinx"?

I've used Borderlinx in the past for a pair of top-end hockey skates which weren't available in the UK at the time, no issues. I got an email as soon as the parcel arrived with them and I logged in to request delivery to the UK (you can wait and bundle parcels together if you want). Quick delivery and it sailed straight through customs since the VAT had been paid through Borderlinx. If I go for an iPad I'll be using them again.

Got the MBP from eBay....I guess we'll see when AppleCare becomes available in the UK!

Hey guys, does anyone know what the cheapest way to post an iPad from the US to UK is? FedEx? Anything cheaper than that?

What are you guys paying if you're not doing it via. bundlebox etc?

Help Me- Novice in UK with Ipad

My girlfriend got me an Ipad from New York YEsterday. I Live in London England. Ive never used any apple products before but i am really excited.

When I plug my ipad in and download itunes it asks me to register my ipad to use it. However do i register it in the uk. I have read that i can then buy a us itunes account voucher and download apps without the need for a us credit card.

Can someone please run me through the steps of what i do to set up my ipad and how i can start getting apps for it. I really am a novice at this so be patient, I.m Just really desperate to play around with the thing

Thanks:):)

After buying a U.S. iTunes voucher, set up an Apple account using your voucher and a U.S. address (not an address from any other country). This is the only way you will be able to download apps from the U.S. store. I suggest buying as much iTunes U.S. voucher dollars as possible because once your voucher is spent, you need to edit your U.S. iTunes account and enter a new, fresh U.S. voucher. You can also use other vouchers that can be registered with a U.S. address (eg. prepaid VISA, Mastercard cards you can buy from a local grocery store.)

Now, if you have an existing UK iTunes account, it can co-exist on your computer with the US account. Just make sure you are logged in the U.S. account first before synching your iPad. Do this evertime you sync your iPad. You can also sync any of your existing apps to the iPad but they will not update in the iPad because they were bought from another country. Update these apps in the iTunes account you bought them from originally, by logging back in to your local iTunes account.

I hope this helps. :)

I would register your iPad to the UK, as this will likely help if there are any warranty issues in the Future. I registered mine to my UK iTunes store account.

It doesn't prevent you from also setting up a US store account to download apps from.

I just called Apple support, 08442090611, and the lady (team leader/manager), called Cindy (I think that's how you spell it) was adamant that the device could not be replaced in the UK without the invoice to confirm that you purchased it. I'm not sure where that puts me exactly with regards to international warrenty and imports.

So my iPad has been sat in Irish Customs for nearly 48 hours.

They are not answering the phone (work to rule **** going on in Ireland) so its just in iPad limbo.

So so close, and yet so far away still

Mines the same in England :(

YGWYPF here....its cheaper but you'll get stung to death and it'll take much longer to clear....

USPS takes longer to clear than FedEx? Really? What do you mean by stung to death :(

I was thinking of going with the ~$80 insured delivery that quotes 2-3 days as a delivery time!

I'm having a friend post it over from texas, wrapped up in wrapping paper and described as a gift.

Is that gonna get stuck on USPS?

That's tosh! UK Sales of goods act state that a warranty has to be honoured by the manufacturer (up to 6 years if it's found to be a manufacturing fault.) They cannot demand to see a receipt.

Are but the problem here is that it was not bought in the UK!

That presumably only applies if you bought it in the UK. Otherwise your purchase canot fall under the UK Sales of goods act.
