A warning for anyone getting one of the cases from Ebay. Not a genuine apple one or one of the neoprene ones. Near the top of the iPad in the centre is a small light sensor. This was covered up by the third party case I was using with the effect of stopping the auto brightness work. I will need to either punch a hole in it or continue to use the manual brightness setting.
anyone heard about any potential data plans for 3G in the UK?? I called O2 and couldn't get them to spill anymore than the press release

It could indeed. Imagine a country whose MPs actually have to have meaningful, intellectual debate in order to agree a compromise. It'd never work - it'd be like Germany. Or France. Or Belgium. Or...
I seem to remember a few years ago Apple actually packed up their business and went home in countries with a hung parliament. There's just no point in buying any electrical product, even from Apple, when the country is in such political limbo.
What do people expect from O2, £20-£25 for unlimited data? Perhaps an additional iPad bolt-on for existing iPhone users? Afterall, its highly unlikely you'd be using both at once.
If I pick mine up, the Trafford Centre is where I'll be. Depends if they allow reserve for collection like in the US. Failing that (and depending on delivery times) I may just get mine delivered.
Spoke to Trafford and if you pre-order you can collect in store. They basically said it will be like all the other launches with pre-orders. Come collect on the day, if you havent pre-ordered there maybe some left at the end of the day, but then again maybe not.
Not looking good in the news though, press is scaremongering that we might not see it out this month... Well if we are let down again by Apple Ill be importing. Sod waiting... a months wait has been hard enough.
ermm hold on.. Monday is the pre-order day... you won't be able to pick one up then.. they're not shipping until the End of the month. So I would go making too many plans just yet
Just a quick clarification on that. When I queued for my 3GS last year they broke the queue into two. One for pre-ordered and the other for non pre-orders. Both queues went in from the start. You didn't have to wait and see whats left at the end of the day. I suspect pre-orders had been allocated and put to one side.
Sorry I was not meaning you can pick up on Monday, I was saying that if you pre-order you can pick up in store.

Yeah. Kiss101 apparently reported it on their morning news. I tried to listen on their website but it says I have to be in the UK...Sheesh. I know Cumbria is north of Watford, but.

Update: My tracking hasn't changed, but a lady at Parcelforce's Customs processing centre in Coventry said my parcel cleared customs last Friday (30th) with about £80 of charges.

I called Parcelforce HQ to pay the charges over the phone but the lady was adamant that I need to wait for my letter. I told her I'd been waiting a long time for customs processing so I'm not going to wait for a letter!
I'll call the local depot when it arrives and see if I can collect it from there

I am sadly still waiting, hopefully, the ash will keep away until my iPad has landed.

Make sure that you book In with as many Apple stores that you can when you arrive. Certainly Few of the Florida stores have stock and you need to pre order in store. There are loads of neoprene covers but no apple ones and have still not managed to get a camera kit. My 2 weeks is coming to an end. The only time I have seen ipads in store was the release day of the 3G and now all of them have gone. You need one apple ID for each store.
My status hasn't changed since the 23rd April. It's an Express 24 parcel.

The last thing that happened was for me to receive a C160 customs form to which I responded via fax and email with the requested information customs asked for. It was apparently released with charges last Friday but ParcelForce can't "see" it on their tracking system yet.
EDIT: It was just released with charges, although I can't pay them until it arrives at the local depot. Anyone know how long that will take?
