Given that we're only a couple of days or so away from knowing the UK pricing and launch date. I find the lack of leaks disturbing.
I wonder if we're going to face yet another delay?
 
True. We all know by now that Apple are experts at preventing leaks (unless they get drunk and leave stuff in bars), however I'm surprised at the lack of leaks from Vodafone/Orange/O2. In fact, I don't think that there's been a leak from any of the international carriers yet either, those in Canada, Germany etc.

I have the black "crocodile skin" case. The end product is actually not exactly the same as the mock-ups, for instance mine has a hole in the case where the light sensor is.

Decided on the black one as I think the tan surround may distract too much from the screen.

The build quality is excellent and it appears to work quite well with the cover folded back for typing at a shallow angle. It can also stand upright, but I wouldn't trust it to be too steady if on a train.

The packaging the case comes with almost reaches Apple standards. It's good to pamper yourself every now and then!

As for delivery, I ordered it on the 15th April and it arrived on Tuesday. They quoted ten days as delivery time, so was quite late.

Now to wait for its eventual contents...

Thanks for the mini review. It's good to hear that they have catered for the light sensor (not all cases do, I hear).

I hope you don't have to wait too long for the iPad itself! :)

I'm in Italy and contemplating to buy a 32GB iPad.

But wondering about the shipping: did the USPS International (3 days) or UPS Express Int. (3 days) shipping method stopped the package at customs, by any chance?

I would hold off now, it would be best to wait for the prices to be released on Monday... As many have already said it's likely that ebay prices will drop after Monday when the official prices are released.
 
oh! Will do that then, thanks! Didn't know the prices will be released on Monday.

Still, am wondering about customs though....

If only the same applied to Mis-Information from employees of said companies. For a laugh I always ask about upcoming products just to see what rubbish they'll spout out.

According to them when i said the iPhone is too big (It isn't but I thought it'd get a reaction) they told me the iPhone Nano was due by the end of the year...

That the iPad was going to be on contract or an add on to an iPhone contract

That various nokia tablets were all due that would do the same thing

Having said that I've heard similar rubbish off an Apple store manager who used to work with me he he. As we all 'know' it's not like Apple Retail employees find out much before the public do, if at all but this guy always seems to 'know' prices and dates - but has never once been correct!

Sorry to waffle, trying to pass time until Monday when they will certainly announce the iPad as being over my £400 budget for the 16GB then I can relax until at least the second generation. Trouble is if they do surprise everyone by going under £400 I'll have to get it :( I hope I can convince myself that by the time they get released here we're probably only 6 months from a second gen announcement in Jan and it'll be best to wait - and I really want to see OS4 running on iPad before buying...
 
If they delay it again they shall burn in hell!!!

Even though I don't think so but as others said before, not having heard any leaks about shipping dates or pricing makes one suspicious, especially since they've already delayed it twice

Twice?? I'm only aware of one delay. When was the other one?

Still it is annoying.. Forced me to buy from states rather then just ordering in UK

+1. Mine has been slung in a rucksack for 8 days, in and out many times a day. There are minor marks that appear to go when lightly rubbed with a licked finger. One thing occurs to me - if you need a case to protect the case then maybe you need to work out if this portability (and use) is really your thing.

Well remember when it was first announced, and steve said 60 days wifi, and 90 for 3g or something, he also mentioned that the Intl relsease would be with the 3g deadline.

You have just answered a burning question. About the hole in the case for the brightness sensor. The cheap Ebay case I have doesn't have a sensor hole so the iPad is running in manual brightness mode.

I got one of their cases for an original iPod. What a quality case. Made in Spain with the finest leather, and as you say the packaging is something that has to be seen to be believed. I fancy the black one too.
 
One word: Amazing.

I have hardly put it down all day and last night and all day before, and indeed the battery has kept up admirably!

I collected the iPad yesterday morning from the ParcelForce depot, having been unable to reach them on the phone and on the off-chance that I might be able to pay and collect. I was left waiting in the customer service area for five nail-biting minutes while a driver went to see if my parcel was there. It was :)

The iPad is glorious and well worth the wait. Some of the official apps have crashed on me a little too often (twice or thrice is a little too often) and the iPad is desperately needing some of the new features of iPhone OS 4.

The iPad needs a case and it hard to use in public. It's far more ostentatious than a Netbook and I'd think twice about using it in a public area (where using an iPhone would be perfectly safe and acceptable). Still, it's a beautiful device, it IS portable in my Case Logic manbag and I love it.

Is love too strong a word? :p

Thanks to everybody for your support and information. I'm still going to hang around this thread but perhaps not quite as F5-refreshingly obsessive as I was last week :p
 
I think I would love the iPad even more in the official Apple case. I've got a cheap silicon case around it at the moment which while doesn't add bulk, has obviously been developed by a far eastern company without the benefit of an iPad to size it right. It would work if it was hard plastic but it seems too floppy to hold the iPad securely.

In any case, the official Apple case doesn't add much in the way of bulk and still provides a degree of screen scratch protection when in my bag. For that, I have a neoprene sleeve but the said silicone case grips the neoprene so it's hard to use both at the same time.

Does anyone know if the Apple UK store might (did the US store? I can't recall) ship accessories such as cases, camera kit, early? Or not?

I'm guessing not. I know that Apple US shipped accessories for pre-ordered 3G versions but only after the WiFi model was already available.


+1 Rep for Tulipone too, as he has so kindly kept me up to date with his Apple Case shopping over the past week (but no cases were available). Thanks again :)

I wonder how the preorder times will work out for International customers. I mean, will all the countries get to preorder at the same time? If so, some people are going to have to be awake at absurd times if they want to get a preorder in as quickly as possible.

WOW. That's nearly a month. How did they ship it carrier pigeon or was it via container ship!! I really sorry for you but at least you'll still get yours before the rest of the UK. In fact you might it before the pre ordering..
