I wonder how the preorder times will work out for International customers. I mean, will all the countries get to preorder at the same time? If so, some people are going to have to be awake at absurd times if they want to get a preorder in as quickly as possible.

Well as most of Europe are 1 or 2 hours different from each other if they do it at lunch time 1200GMT then most people will be awake.

Hi Zed, hopefully!! Have any of you called through to see if you could pay the customs charges in advance of the letter? If so what was the response? I guess at the moment until mine says that it has been released I should not do anything?

Don't think you can do this, as HMRC operates outside of ParcelFarce. You should be able to pay the fees online though - your letter should contain a url and code which you just whack into the ParcelFarce site and pay with a Debit/Credit card.

Good luck - mines be 'Awaiting Customs Charging' for the last 6 days...

I bought mine via bundlebox who used FedEx to ship. Bundlebox paid the VAT etc in advance so mine was in customs for less than a minute.

Some have been able to pay in advance but most have reported that they have to wait for the letter.

Blimey 6 days, definitely time to find a hobby! I wish I'd bought mine through Bundlebox as it would have been here ages ago. I have however bought the case and dock through the, although they still have not arrived there after all this time!! Just my luck at the moment!

Same depot as me! Plus it looks like we had a similar delay (and charge!) too.

Anyone in the UK after a iPad Camera Connection Kit? I'm new to eBay and made the schoolboy error of winning 2 bids! I'm based in Essex but going on holiday tomorrow (hence my desperate eBay bidding) so was wondering if anyone wanted to take it off my hands (before 11am tomorrow) as trying to sell on eBay will be complicated for me now. Send me a message if interested. I'm after £30 plus postage. Cheers.

So its the 28th of May, just what i expected really.

Less than ideal because i'm going away that day for the BH weekend. If its a late release i might struggle, but if its morning i can buy it and take it with me.

From the front page:
Wi-Fi iPad price points of £429/£499/£599 including VAT, with 3G-capable models carrying a £100 premium.

well if the prices are true.. which I tend to agree with will mean that my imported iPad only cost me an extra £40 :)

£699 for the 64Gb 3g? Maybe they'd like a pint of blood as well, or perhaps the sacrifice of a firstborn child.

[EDIT] Although not perhaps as bad as it could have been - it's only just over the current US price plus VAT, so maybe we're not getting shafted as much as I originally thought? It's a lot of money though...

Yep, and considering the pound has dropped against the dollar and the euro today i think we should be fairly happy.

I have not had any apps crash (yet). What ones have you had problems with?

One word: Amazing.

I have hardly put it down all day and last night and all day before, and indeed the battery has kept up admirably!

I collected the iPad yesterday morning from the ParcelForce depot, having been unable to reach them on the phone and on the off-chance that I might be able to pay and collect. I was left waiting in the customer service area for five nail-biting minutes while a driver went to see if my parcel was there. It was :)

The iPad is glorious and well worth the wait. Some of the official apps have crashed on me a little too often (twice or thrice is a little too often) and the iPad is desperately needing some of the new features of iPhone OS 4.

The iPad needs a case and it hard to use in public. It's far more ostentatious than a Netbook and I'd think twice about using it in a public area (where using an iPhone would be perfectly safe and acceptable). Still, it's a beautiful device, it IS portable in my Case Logic manbag and I love it.

Is love too strong a word? :p

Thanks to everybody for your support and information. I'm still going to hang around this thread but perhaps not quite as F5-refreshingly obsessive as I was last week :p

Could be better but could be oh so much worse!

Have booked the 28th off already as is bank holiday weekend!

Anyone heading to the cambs store for the launch?

I'm trying to decide if Apple priced up the 16GB by £30 or priced up the 64GB by £30. Since, the £70 difference between the 16 and 32 would suggest the 64 should cost something in the area of £569 instead of £599.

Incidentally Zed2, those prices are off of Apple UKs press release.

yeah seen them there now.. so I'm happy... I paid over the odds but not much! and I'll have had my pad for a month before others.

You would not believe the grief I went to in Florida to get this - managed only to get one at the last minute.

No surprises with the prices there, but goddamn they are expensive. I might be able to get a 64 gig one from the US for £450 all in, but the only thing holding me back is any warranty issues there may be, and the amount of ipads I have seen with yellowing, screen leaking or dead pixels would possibly make it difficult to return...

Like the iPod, the iPad has an international warranty. Take it into any Apple Store if it has a problem.

You going over to the USA to buy it for £450? If not then what about UK taxes and duty.

I have someone who might be able to bring me one back. The exchange rate has changed a bit, so might go for the 32gb which would cost about £407, which would be a nice saving. He wouldnt need to pay duty if hes bringing one in his suitcase would he?

edit - actually with a 7% sales tax (since the ipad prices in US dont include it) it comes to about 436 pounds...so an overall saving of 60 pounds...not sure whether to bother with it, and get a pure UK ipad..
