To all our USA iPad importers (I'm probably going to get a 3G 64GB brought over to the UK next week), I've got two questions:

  1. Is the warranty definitely international (as per the Macs) or is it only in the country it was purchased in (as per the iPhone)? Do we have an Apple document online we can reference or something? As an :apple: Genius in my local store told me that even once the iPad has been released here a USA iPad will only be covered in the USA, but that's contradictory to what the tech forums I'm on reckon .
  2. Is there any difference between buying from BestBuy and buying from Apple themselves? As https://www.macrumors.com/2010/05/07/apple-retail-stores-run-dry-of-ipad-wi-fi-3g-models/ says about how Apple stores are starting to run out of the 3G models.

So if that's the case I don't see how it can be different for other stores!!! Or can it? Really annoying if they're not doing reservations. :(

That's strange. At the 3GS launch last year they actually formed two queues. One were the people that had pre-ordered and the others were the turn up and get one people.

On the one hand, if I pre-order online then at least i'll definitely get one, but the delievery might be delayed... I don't think i could live with everyone flashing about their iPads, on release day, except for me :(

On the other hand, queuing up on release day is all part of the fun, but without a reservation I might not get one either...

Arrrggghhhh!!! Decisions!!!

ha ha good idea! it is for my birthday too i guess:D

she was prepared to sit up at midnight on monday and pre order online too bless her!!!

Just phoned the store again and the guy is now saying that they're not taking Pre-Orders in the store and it'll probably be best to use the website.

No payment is taken
There is "currently" no limit to the number you can have (like there has been in the US)

I'm gonna go to the store on Monday, and if I need to use the web I'll just use one of the Mac's on display there :)

He did say on Launch day there will be two queue's. One for Pre-Ordered and one for other customer's "trying their luck"

So you can choose to have it delivered by post or collect from the store?

I think this is probably the way it'll go.

Thanks for clarifying with the store Parish.

Apparently so. Sounds good right.
I mean who doesn't want to get caught up in the hysteria??

Me. I can't imagine anything more pretentious and tedious. No offence to anyone who enjoys that sort of thing but personally, no thanks.

According to the store in Belfast, they aren't taking reservations :( So it'll be ordering online for me then. Does anyone know if the most of the Americans who preordered got theirs delivered on the day of release?

Was delivered (attempted anyway) on the 30th as advertised by Apple. If they say the 28th, then it will be the 28th. The iPads are either on their way to be staged for delivery or they are already in the countries waiting for the 28th.

Any details on the specific time of release 9am or 5pm, other?

I only ask as i have flight to leave London that day (seeing Black Eyed Peas night before!!!). I could move flight back if it meant i could prebook for early morning London store pickup. Would home order if later than day? Hey, its the difference between having something to play with in the airport waiting room, and inflight!!!

Thanks for any info. It will be helpful to decide how i pre-order, as i am guessing they wont let you cancel a pre-order.

For the 3GS they opened to sell at 8AM.

My friend went to see Black Eyed Peas in the O2 last night. Said they were fantastic. She won the tickets with a Coca Cola promotion.

gotta love tesco/asda/sainsburys cola for 20p

although im trying to give all that fizzy up, its not good.....

i found a way to enter for free on their site, there was a "click here" bit of text in the terms and conditions, but unless you hovered over it youd never know it was there!

then i bought a sim card from easy mobile for £1 (they were doing a deal that it came with £10 credit), couldnt believe it, never won anything before or since!

Well it certainly is an unbelievable price... Unbelievably f**king high that is.

Safe to say it won't make much of a dent in the ebook reader market here, and I doubt it'll sell a million units fast either at that stupid price.

Though it is still cheaper than the iPhone 3GS 16GB on pay as you go.

To be honest, you're not fully comparing.

You should be comparing the iPhone 16GB to the iPad 16GB WiFi + 3G model.

It depends. If someone only wants a book reader I think your right with the Kindle at just over £200 and the Sony at a similar price. But the iPad will be a book reader and a lot more. I never thought it would go out at just over £200 in competition.
